October/Halloween Update



The Halloween update has been released! With version 1.05 the Jack-o'-Lantern returns. Patch additionally has many fixes, improvements and balancing changes to the game. Full list of changes is here:

  • Added Jack-o'-Lantern boulder which can be selected outside of the campaign
  • Added two new Halloween themed flag banners.
  • Added one Halloween themed boulder paint.
  • Fixed a physics crash.
  • Addressed a GPU crash in DirectX11.
  • Tweaked lighting on the majority of the levels.
  • Tweaked stats on boulder 'skins' so every boulder has unique stats (no more clones).
  • Boulder stats are exhibited in numeric values in addition to the existing bar graphic.
  • Cow boulder goes "Moo" when it falls out of bounds.
  • Mirror tips disappear after a brief moment (are not always visible).
  • Fixed exploit in Egypt level where players could skip half of the map with balloon boulders.
  • Removed usable tiles inside castles in Lviv.
  • Fixed projectiles going through units.
  • Fixed FOV working incorrectly during tutorial segment.
  • Forcing more save states to avoid losing data when exiting the game.
  • Brightness bar slider has more subtle increments.

Patch 1.04 released



A new update has been released! Version 1.04 brings some fixes, improvements and balancing changes to the game. Full list of changes is here:

<*>Added GPU crash fix.
<*>Fixed rare crash when selecting rematch in split-screen after destroying the enemy's gate.
<*>Increased FOV ranges (50 to 130) which allows setting FOV better for 21:9 display settings.
<*>Cannons have slightly less health and use up 3x3 tiles.
<*>Phoenix tree regenerates tiles a bit slower.
<*>Da Vinci tank cannons with slightly better knockback and damage.
<*>Lighter boulders take slightly less damage when falling off the course and heavier boulders take more.
<*>Fixed bug where Gunpowder boulder rebuilds fast after striking the gate.

Patch 1.03 is live



The first patch is out! Version 1.03 brings some important improvements, fixes and new features to the game. Full list of changes is here:


  • Improved voice chat options. From the 'options' menu players can globally set voice chat preferences. Party menu now allows to mute yourself.
  • Ability to reset progress. 'Delete progress' button in options menu resets all the progress in the game.
  • Host can no longer exploit the 'kick' function. Kicking players is not available mid-way during a match.
  • 'Joining game' blocker error fixed.
  • Better support for 21:9 resolution.
  • Extended window options. Players can now select 'borderless'.
  • Increased downscaling effect of knockback and damage when receiving multiple projectile shots.
  • Added walls in Lviv that prevent you from traversing the final section exclusively through the map border.
  • Fixed leaderboards not updating properly when mouse-over is used.
  • Fixed Zoologist achievement (lightning is still not usable).
  • Small nerf to acceleration and jump for all 'Balloon' boulders.
  • Slightly nerfed impact resistance for Prehistoric Wheel (slows down more when breaking through destructibles).
  • Catapults rotate slightly faster.
  • Fixed a couple of crashes.
  • Removed 'Friends Only' filter which was not working (will be restored in a future patch).


Note: Some new text strings are missing in German, French, Italian and Chinese (this will be fixed in the next patch).

Hi guys! We've finally set the release date for Rock of Ages 2; August 28, which is just around the corner! Check out our latest "Rockin' Trailer" to get a preview of what we've been working on all these last months.

The title will release for $14.99 and as a bonus we're throwing a free 'Binding of Isaac' themed pack for all purchases made the first 4 weeks from release (huge thanks to the awesome guys at Nicalis/Edmund McMillen).

The game will be available for purchase on the 28th. We'll also introduce a few purchasing options for people that already own RoA1 (get OST and 'Classic Pack' for free!).

Gunpowder Boulder review

Hi guys,

We wanted to drop by with another cool blog post that describes one of the new boulders featured in the game. But before we get in to this, we just wanted to briefly mention that we should be announcing the release details very soon. We're currently working on a bunch of updates to go with the upcoming announcement, so please stay tuned. We're at the very end of the road here.



And now back to our boulder details! The Gunpowder Boulder as you might have guessed is an explosive weapon with a very high risk/reward ratio. This boulder deals considerable damage to the opponent's gate, but managing to get it to the very bottom of the course can be quite challenging.

The gunpowder boulder has a short fuse mechanism that is popping out, and every time the boulder rolls over it the explosive contents receive a charge. As long as the boulder is not hitting the fuse the sphere quickly cools down, but if you roll enough times over it: BOOM!


The more the boulder glows red the closer it is to bursting.

Ways to avoid overheating is making sure the fuse is not aligned with the floor when rolling or jumping as the bomb gets hotter.

Offense alternatives



The explosive boulder is also a great tool if you want to wipe out a heavily armed area that you are having problems getting by. The explosion radius can take out multiple units with a single blast.


Mass destruction!

To manually detonate the boulder the player can also rest on the fuse just for a few seconds and KABOOM! Everything is decimated.
