Interior Update Beta - last one, I totally swear!

OK, I know this one has dragged on, but this should be the last beta! I couldn't help adding a few more features and cleaning up a bunch more bugs:

* Added test stairs (just physics + simple boxes)
* Custom light editor
* Floors can now be disabled by halves.
* Changed character controller to make walking up stairs possible

* Fixed construction of walls with multiple tilesets at different levels
* Fix tileset painting position (don't paint floor below current floor)
* Some fixes to end/corner caps in interior walls
* Fixed lights in tall rooms
* Fixed issue with blaster charge particles
* Fixed tileset weirdness due to underlying hashing error
* Fixed spontaneously exiting interior when near edge of map
* Fixed fires
* Fixed fire extinguisher firing behind Limnal Drive
* Fixed crash with holoscreen in editor
* Fixed angled door placement
* Fixed crash with room connections
* Fix stray door entities
* Changed how rooms render in editor
* Show lights in all rooms / floors when placing lights
* Log keyboard/gamepad messages
* Don't turn off gravbike unless it's stopped

Final release will be:

* New tilesets
* Better looking stairs
* Maybe 1 more hole-in-wall bugfix

And then we will be on to making Procedural Interiors more beautiful, so that we can use them for Planetary Bases!!!!

THANK YOU all so much for your help testing! It's been invaluable as always!

Interior Editor Beta updated w/ major bugs fixed

Hey folks! I updated the Beta branch and fixed the major issues some of you were seeing.

Most importantly, you should be able to load saves now without seeing all of those errors, missing interiors, bad player locations.

I also fixed a bug that broke tall walls.

Finally, I fixed at least one crash!

I am going to continue fixing things - you guys have reported bugs about crashing while in the editor, and a few minor bugs. Will be looking into them next! Thank you all so much for all your help so far!

To test, go to Steam Library -> right click Rodina -> Properties -> Betas tab -> Choose "Beta" or "Dev" from the dropdown.

Interior Update is in Beta - help me test!

Here we go!!! The new Interior Editor, with multiple story rooms, is now live on the Beta Branch! Please help me test it!

Steam Library -> right click Rodina -> Properties -> Betas tab -> Choose "Beta" or "Dev" from the dropdown.

After bugs, the most important thing I'm worried about right now is usability! Is the new system confusing? Can you figure it out?

In the final release (which may take a little while) I will fix bugs, but also include new tilesets as well! I wasn't able to get to them for the beta release :)

Not long now! I am so ready for this update to be over so I can get back to fun stuff!!!

EDIT: If you find bugs, please send info to me at brendan@elliptic-games.com

Dev Update! 3D Interiors :)

Wooo! It's finally here - 3D interiors!

The editor is still way broken and you need to "Fix Player" after applying changes, but you can see the basic functionality. Hit up/down arrows to change floors and make rooms!

Don't save the interiors, don't make savegames, etc. But we're almost done!

Next up is the Beta release, with lots of polish to the editor (going to make it easier to use once again), the ability to color tilesets, and new tilesets for you to try out!

Interior Editor Dev Update!

Ooookay I'm back again with another Dev update! The editor is still technically broken, but it's a lot more functional than it was before! You can paint tilesets over the rooms, add doors and lights and other entities. Aside from several bugs it should be fully featured!

There are bugs though - quite a few of them. But don't worry I'll fix them all before release. Please don't use this as your regular editor - just for experimentation!

The main issue I'm worried about now is information overload. The "draw a room" convention worked fine with a blank slate, but just take a look at that screenshot - It's too much! It's a mess. Please let me know what you think if you use it. I think it's confusing and unwieldy (just like the last system - aarrg!)

I suspect that I'll have to tweak / simplify things significantly to help players understand the new system. Probably will have to add a tutorial at some point too. My goal is to keep things simple though - we'll see!

I've already got a head start on making the interiors 3D / multistory. Next update will showcase that!

Interior System / Editor Dev Update

Another Dev update! This one is kind of extreme in that it will completely break the Interior Editor. It doesn't work at all right now (I doubt the buttons even work). This is just to show where I'm at.

I'm transitioning to a new system where you draw the outlines to the rooms, rather than placing individual grid squares. I'm hoping that the new system will be much more user friendly - I knew I needed to do this before the game comes out of Early Access.

The past month I've been reworking the interior systems to be "room first" rather than "grid first", while also making them inter-operate with the old system enough to load your savegames. (Please let me know if you get errors when you load your game) (but, loading interiors inside the editor won't work right now)

This is now done! So next, I will be working on adapting the actual Editor UI to the new system.

I'll also be adding official support for multi-level interiors and tall rooms. Hope I can do it all in a way that will still be user friendly :)

Sorry these updates aren't more exciting! Once this update fully comes out though I think you will all love it! Much more variety, freedom, new tilesets and colors. It's going to be great!

Minor Dev Update

In preparation for the Interior Editor changes, I've had to make some modifications under the hood. A couple changes worth mentioning:

* You can now hold SHIFT and RMB in the editor to rotate the view
* I greatly optimized the interiors, to allow for more floors / more lights / etc.

As always, there will be bugs! But this update might lead to better performance for some people with slower CPUs so I thought I'd release it!

Rodina 1.2.4: Xeno Infestation!

Rodina 1.2.4 has arrived!

This might be the biggest single update to Rodina so far: new enemies, new weapons, powerups, and health pickups. The Xeno force has invaded the planets of the Zorica System, radically altering the experience of collecting resources. Rodina is STARTING to turn into a more fully-fledged game!!

This update also adds a surprise: the GravBike! The planets are so big that we need a way to move around them faster. If you go scavenging at the debris piles you should find a bike pretty quickly.

Finally! This completes the Combat Update to the game, though of course is just the beginning in terms of the combat experience (all of this work will make it much easier to add more weapons and enemies going forward).

Next up: Interior Editing. This will mean a complete overhaul of the interior editor, along with the ability to create multi-story interiors, and a feature allowing you to recolor tilesets. Look forward to a dramatic increase in the creative possibilities!

1.2.4 Beta Updated!

I updated the Beta with fixes from all of your feedback! Thank you so much to everyone who has sent me bugs, savegames, and minidumps :D

I didn't fix every last issue but I got the bulk of them. If everything goes well this will be the version that gets released in a day or two!!!

Changes:

* lock vehicles to no-physics terrain better when player is far away
* bike won't continue running if the player is forced off
* bike doesn't throw ship around as much on collision
* fix crash with missile debris colliding with bike (bike can no longer be fixed, uses the script state to handle sitting/riding transition)
* fix lighting on scenegraph changes
* fix small issue with atmosphere object names
* fix planet gravity for dynamic objects
* add default character to fonts
* chapter complete messages
* fixed Xeno combat music from restarting constantly

1.2.4 Beta!

The Combat Update is in Beta!

Phew! This one took a while - November has been a heck of a month and its been a little hard to focus - but the Combat Update is nearing completion. It'd be great if any of you guys would like to help me test it before final release!

There are still a handful of polish / balance issues to work out. I'm not 100% happy with how things feel yet. But it's close enough to show you guys. Feel free to post about issues or to email me directly at brendan@elliptic-games.com

To switch to the Beta branch go to Steam Library -> right click Rodina -> Properties -> BETAs tab -> choose "Beta" from the dropdown
