Hey Spirits, James here, Brand Community Manager at 505 Games, working with the team at Kids with Sticks on Rogue Spirit.

It is my absolute pleasure to announce that Rogue Spirit, v1.0 is AVAILABLE NOW!



Our Early Access journey has come to an end, and we couldn’t be more grateful for the help of the community throughout our journey.

The reason we chose Early Access was to allow the community to help us guide and balance the game’s rogue-lite abilities, as well as get the perspective of the players while fleshing out our world – it turns out all this information was invaluable.

During Early Access we implemented the following;

9 NEW CHARACTERS (18 in Total)



  • Slicer – Uses a Japanese war fan user that engages in melee combat.
  • Deadeye – Wielding a bow they rain down damage from above.
  • Reaver – With their Kusarigama and can inflict damage on more than 1 enemy at a time.
  • Marksman – A Crossbow user who deals damage from afar.
  • Mantis – An Amazon-based character – master of a deadly sword.
  • Harpooner – Shoot harpoons at range or quickly close in on enemies from distance using your secondary ability.
  • Chief – A dual-wielding axe user who can also throw his axes from distance.
  • Sabre – A sword-wielding Amazonian woman with a powerful ground slam attack.
  • Crusher – Attacking with dual maces, Crusher is deadly in close-corner encounters.
  • Added in v1.0

2 NEW BIOMES (10 Levels in Total)



  • The Forest of Souls (2x levels)
  • Divine Peak (2x levels)

2 NEW BOSSES (5 Total)



  • Aspect of Decay
  • Demon King
  • Combat Updates
  • Improvements to Dash, Parry and enemy/boss AI.
  • Updated skills loop to make it easier to find some skills through natural gameplay.
  • Many new skills were added (i.e. Fire tornado, Blink, Glue bomb, Electric Trap, Frozen Orb, Flamethrower, Frost Wall, Body Spawn, etc).

3x NEW FAMILIARS



  • Amara (Revives the Player Once)
  • Vina (Electric)
  • Canda (Laser)

WORLD & LORE UPDATES



  • A Journal, where you can learn more about combat, enemies, bosses, and the Kingdom of Midra.
  • New Spirit Bridge – A hub in-between levels giving players a chance to purchase wares and heal.
  • New Spirit puzzles unlock secrets throughout each level.
  • Complete a list of objectives to help you unlock perma-upgrades for each new run.

NEW MODES



  • Unlock run modifiers which present new challenges for players to master (i.e. Lone Wolf – the player cannot swap bodies).
  • A Time Attack mode will give players a chance to set new records against friends for running through levels and defeating enemies!
  • Added in v1.0

EARLY ACCESS UPDATE (v0.99)



Hey Spirits, James here, Brand Community Manager at 505 Games and working with the team at Kids with Sticks on Rogue Spirit.

Today, we’re launching v0.99. The final update before launching 1.0 next month. This update addresses several fixes and balances that the community have reported over the past few weeks. Thank you all for your help in navigating some of these. You can see all the changes below 👇

Throughout this Early Access period, you have helped us to shape the game far beyond its initial concept and we are so grateful.

V1.0 will be a celebration of not only all the teams’ hard work but also yours too.

Rogue Spirit v0.99 Patch Notes – 7th February 2023



- Removed the possibility of breaking other active actions with a dash action.
- Improved dash mechanic - making it easier to dash out from difficult situations.
- Added a ‘perfect parry’ mechanic that can block charged attacks.
- Now if a player is attempting to block a ‘charged’ attack (and is unable to ‘perfect’ parry), the player will receive 80% of damage, but will lose some stamina, and will get kicked away.
- Improved AI behaviour - enemies will give players more space if they are not currently attacking - this should result in less pressure during group fights.
- Improved and rebalanced demons.
- Fixes for AI perception and player detection.
- Elite enemies rebalancing.
- Boss fights rebalanced and fixes.
- Improved freeze-frame system during player's attacks - now player should feel attacks as more powerful and less glitchy.
- Game rebalancing.
- Lots of bug fixes.
- Lots of optimizations.
- Improved Photo Mode functions.

NEW CHARACTER: SABRE


As part of v0.98, we’re introducing a brand-new character to the roster, Sabre.

A strong Amazonian woman, who wields a deadly blade, Sabre is ready to slice through Famine like it was nothing! Sabre’s primary attack is a solid sharp swing of her sword, which can deal a high amount of damage with just one hit. You don’t want to get in the way of that. During her secondary attack, Sabre leaps high into the air and slams her blade down onto the ground with an all-mighty force! Be prepared, she packs a punch.

PHOTO MODE IMPROVEMENTS



Virtual Photographers, we’ve heard you!

Firstly, we want to thank everyone who’s taken the time to create some amazing shots of Rogue Spirit. When we designed our biomes, we wanted to make a world that you’ll want to capture and you’re certainly delivering.

Photo mode is still in its infancy, and we’re taking the time to listen to your feedback and understand the tools that you want when creating your shots – let us know in the comments below!!

However, today we’ve added a few additions to photo mode that we feel will make a big difference. We’ve added controller support to make the process of capturing your shots more familiar. We’ve also rebuilt the UI to allow for more creativity and movement within the camera, as well as adding a few more lenses. We can’t wait to see what you can create!

Lastly, we‘ve got one more thing to share... we can now confirm that Rogue Spirit v1.0 is launching on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Steam and Epic Games on March 7th, 2023!

Spirits, we’ve not got long to go…

After launching last September, the teams at Kids with Sticks and 505 Games have worked hard behind the scenes to bring you the best version of our rogue-lite – and soon you’ll be able to pick up your controllers and run head-on into v1.0.

Before we get to share what’s coming to Rogue Spirit, we have some very exciting news… alongside the v1.0 release for Steam, we’re thrilled to announce that Rogue Spirit will be coming to PS5, Xbox Series X|S and Epic Games Store in 2023.

To make sure that everything is ready for all platforms, we’ve made the difficult decision to extend our early access period and delay the release of v1.0 for a couple of months.

We fully understand this isn’t ideal, but it isn’t all bad news...

With the extended time, we decided to publish a small and but significant update that we’d like to share first, v0.95.

This isn’t your traditional little ‘bug fix update’. Check out what’s coming to v0.95 below

GAME MODIFIERS (RULES) & GHOST PUZZLES


In V0.95, we’re introducing Game Modifiers - or Rules.

Before you head out into the world on your next run, you’ll find a monk standing proud by the gates of the Monastery. Don’t forget to talk to him, as he’ll introduce you to some of the new Rules.
Exploring throughout the world, you’ll find many different blueprints that can be exchanged to add modifiers to the game – including; Hard Mode, Ghostbuster, Elemental Roulette and Sprinter. Unlock them as you go along so you can then come back and add that extra challenge to the game. We’ll be running regular community challenges using these modifiers, so keep an eye on our social channels over the next coming months.

You’ll also find new areas throughout each biome, introducing environmental puzzles that can be completed only by the Prince himself – beat the puzzle, get rewarded!



UPDATED SKILLS LOOP & NEW QUESTS


We’ve updated the gameplay loop, improving the way that Skills are found and upgraded – allowing for a smoother and simpler experience. Skills can now be found in each level as blueprints. Once found they can then be implemented and upgraded in the Monastery with the monk.

Allowing for a more challenging gameplay loop.





UPDATED UI & AI


Once you update to 0.95, you’ll find a brand new menu layout and a much smoother and improved AI system – be warned, they’re now out to get you… for real this time 😉

EARLY ACCESS UPDATE (v0.9)



Spirits welcome to the penultimate update…

We’re nearly there. This month we’re dropping v0.9, the update before we launch v1.0 - more about that soon - and this feels like one of our biggest drops to date!

Without further a due, let’s get stuck in…

NEW PLAYABLE CHARACTERS


Joining the fight for the Kingdom of Midra are Harpooner and Chief.



Harpooner isn’t you’re typical ranged character. Using a makeshift crossbow, he can shoot and aim his power shots with immense precision, making his primary attack superbly deadly.

His secondary attack will be familiar to fans of Slicer and Reaver - a hook shot, which when pulled off will attach to the opposing enemy and pull them closer. Perfect for those pesky ranged characters.



Chief is an experienced war chief and is exceptional at dealing - and taking - damage! For all, you hack ‘n’ slash fans, Chief should be in your arsenal! His primary attack is a heavy axe to the enemy's head, nice and simple.

His secondary is a little different. Using both his axes as boomerangs, Chief will throw them causing them to spin and damage whoever is in his path.

NEW BIOME: Divine Peak


As with update 0.7, we’re introducing a brand new arena, the Divine Peak. A dangerously beautiful mountainous region that embodies what Midra once was.

With a new area, comes a new boss the Demon King. The master of the peaks and one of our toughest bosses to date - honestly, it took me about 7 times to take him down the other day.

NEW SKILLS AND FAMILIARS


We’ve improved so much of the gameplay over the recent months that we wanted to add more options to fit different playstyles and as such, we’re introducing 2 new familiars Vina (Electric) and Canda (Laser) and a number of new skills including the Frozen Orb, Electric Trap, Flamethrower and more

AND MUCH MUCH MORE


Thanks to your feedback, we’ve added more polish and rebalancing to the enemies, changed the default camera settings and also included an ability to heal within the Spirit Bridge.

EARLY ACCESS UPDATE (v0.8)



Happy February, Spirits,

It’s been a few months since our last update and we know that you’ve been excitedly waiting for what’s coming next for Rogue Spirit.

Kids with Sticks and 505 Games have been working hard behind the scenes and listening to a lot of the feedback from the Community. In this update, we’re concentrating on further improving the gameplay experience rather than prioritising new features - for the moment.

Because of this, we have decided to postpone adding any New Game Modes for the time being. This wasn’t an easy decision, but we really feel as though this is the best move for the game.

So, here’s what's new in v0.8!

NEW CHARACTERS

Let us introduce you to the Marksman and Mantis, two brand new characters to join the Kingdom of Midra as part of update v0.8.




Marksman & Mantis

Marksman isn’t your typical hunter. Equipped with a powerful crossbow, he can pick off his prey with strikingly impressive precision.

His primary attack is a clear-cut combo of 2 crossbow bolts that deal a large amount of damage from a distance.

His secondary is perfect for that crowd control method that is needed in the madness - a rapid-fire attack, firing 7 arrows in a spread that can deal substantial damage against a group of enemies.

Mantis’ primary attack is a deadly combination of 3 katana strikes. Slashing enemies from multiple angles.

However, her Slashing dash secondary attack is what we feel is a game-changer. She will dash between 3 points on the field cutting down her foes on the way.

To do this, the player must set up their anchor point, once done the next placement will be a tether point where she will pass through.

GAMEPLAY

As mentioned above, we want to focus on improving the gameplay loop in Rogue Spirit, and begin to finally add those important bits of lore so players can really understand the world of Rogue Spirit.

To start, we’ve added a brand new Journal feature, which will be updated in time and yet more new comments for the Monk, which will give more details as to our story of the Kingdom and how it fell. To help with this, we’ve also created a Spirit Bridge (a hub world between levels to help you prepare for the next).

We’ve also looked at how skills have been used by players and made a bunch of improvements to allow for them to be used as they’re intended and offer a bit more flexibility.

We’ve also included loads more fun updates too!
