Our next major update on the 24th of February brings some big updates and new content. First off, the Merchant of Wonders, Fugoro will find himself trapped in the Roguebook for those who purchase him as DLC.
He will also be available for all players in the new Story Tournament mode.
What are Story Tournaments?
Story tournaments are a competition between players to see who can complete a run the fastest, or score the most points. While similar to a “daily run,” story tournaments are special in that they start at the exact same time for everyone. This means that in order to finish first, you’ll likely need to be there at the starting line.
Why not a Daily Run?
We wanted to make these runs a special event that occurs only a couple of times per day. The idea is to make these runs a more social and spectator-friendly version of what is normally a daily run - something that is available for 24 hours and you can complete at your leisure. There is a bit of a gap in those between yourself and the other players that we wanted to close a bit.
We imagine that some players will gather and rush to be the first to complete the tournament as soon as it starts, then those players who remain will go for the highest score.
Your “Finish time” will always be from the time the tournament officially begins. For example, if the tournament starts at 6pm and you finish it at 8pm, your finish time will be 2 hours.
Each tournament has a designated set of heroes and 3 special modifiers. Embellishments are set the same for everyone, and everyone has the same exact seed.
It does not matter what DLC you own when competing in a tournament. All heroes are available to everyone in any tournament.
After the fastest players have finished, players can then compete to score the most points.
When do the tournaments start?
Twice a day, a new Story tournament is generated. We aim to start these tournaments at staggered times in order to accommodate as many players across the world as practical.
What are the rules of a tournament?
Everyone plays on the same run seed
The run is set to “Epilogue 6” difficulty
All hero cards are unlocked
A baseline of embellishments is applied to the seed
These embellishments are completely independent of what the player currently has. Everyone will have the same.
Three special tournament modifiers (mutators) are applied
What are the tournament modifiers?
Each run has 3 special modifiers applied to it.
The first modifier will always be a Global modifier that affects everything in the run.
The other two modifiers have a chance to be deck randomizers or a hero-specific modifier.
The end result should be a dramatically unique run each tournament, and hopefully only rarely broken.
What information can you see during the run?
Your current highest ranking placement medal (This ranking is dynamically updated live)
Time elapsed since the beginning of the tournament
Global statistics:
Players: Total players entered into the tournament
Deaths: Total players who have been defeated in the run (or abandoned)
Finishers: Total players who defeated chapter 3
Placement and score:
Lockout periods
Once the tournament is close to ending, there are several lockout notifications that occur to players attempting to join, or currently playing.
Less than 4 players remaining: New players will be warned that only 4 players remain.
Less than 1 hour remaining: Players are locked from joining the current tournament. You must wait to join the next.
This is to prevent players from joining a tournament that they likely will not be able to finish.
When a tournament’s time expires, all player runs end and a new tournament begins.
How many runs can you do in the same tournament?
Only the first run (win or lose) will only count toward your leaderboard placement.
Afterward, you may retry that tournament as much as you like until the timer expires. You will not change your placement, but you can still earn pages.
How exactly do Speed and Score placements work?
As we previously mentioned, the speed category involves completing the run as fast as possible from the starting point of the event which means you'll want to arrive on time to compete at the same time as the rest of the players. The scoring category works different, players earning points for winning battles, and completing other objectives. You'll want to decide which category you're aiming for and act accordingly.
Conclusion
We hope you enjoy this new major feature for Roguebook. We hope it will be a way for you to enjoy the game with friends and compare your performances in very special circumstances.
This feature is being released simultaneously with our new hero, Fugoro - and the very first tournament will feature him.
This means everyone can play with Fugoro for free right away by participating in the first tournament. After that, he will have a chance to randomly appear just like all of the other heroes.
You’ll never have to own him to play with him in a tournament.
Thank you for playing Roguebook!
Fuguro will find himself trapped in the Roguebook on February 24th!
Congratulations on those eagle-eyed fans who realized that Fuguro, the merchant of wonders would be joining our other heroes in the Roguebook as DLC on February 24th. Additionally, Fuguro will be free to play on rotation in the Tournament Mode that will release at the same time for all players.
We'll have more details on both Fuguro and the Tournament Mode in the run-up to launch, but for now, here's a little teaser about how Fuguro plays.
Pirate, Hoarder, Frog Thief, Adventurer, Toad, what you call him may depend on whether your interactions with the Merchant of Wonder have brought you wealth or calamity. For those who find themselves trapped within the pages, of the Roguebook, perhaps it will be cathartic that the cause of their troubles will be joining them.
Fuguro is position-orientated, with a good spread of Melee, Ranged, and Swap cards to keep him moving. He's got some great combos, for those willing to put in the prep work to pull them off and makes use of coins and marks, with some special coins for synergizing with the other heroes.
Here's a sneak peek at some of his cards (click to expand):
A new "Hero" will find their way into the Roguebook on February 24th!
Let it be known that another "hero" will find themselves trapped in the Roguebook on February 24th.
This mysterious stranger will be available in normal runs for those who have the DLC, or free to use at certain points in the Daily Tournmanent mode that will be released at the same time.
Patch Notes - Update 1.9
Overview
Before we get started talking about our first update of 2022, we want to wish you all a Happy New Year and hope you all had a great holiday season.
Back onto the topics of updates, the first update this year adds some extra features and has a few balance adjustments.
Victory screen
We've added a new fully animated screen to celebrate when the heroes score a victory run. Fugoro's dark and corrupted shop will morph into a brighter and flourishing version, as the generally malevolent Roguebook becomes 'satisfied'.
New Sound FX
We have added 21 new unique sounds to specific cards in an effort to add a bit more depth and hero personality to battles.
The following cards now have unique sound effects:
Sharra
Smoke Bomb
Shimmerstrike
Lightning Draw
Fan of Knives
High Five
Time Strike
Sorocco
Fire Oil
Buckle up
Ogre Soup
Dig
Seifer
Dark Knowledge
Ritual Strike
Whipcrack
Hex
Aurora
Time stop
Split the Timeline
Toadsuit
Battle Toads
Triton Banquet
Tadpals
Quicken
Starting Loot Bag
When a new run begins, any Embellishments that give you items will all appear together inside of a loot bag instead of separate and sequentially. This hopefully will make the starting sequence for new runs more smooth and comprehensible. This is a quality of life feature we have wanted to add for some time.
Balancing
Thank you for your feedback on our recent balance discussion news post. In the end, we decided it would be best to focus only on the changes we think will have the most impact without disrupting the general Roguebook experience. We saw some great discussions that we truly appreciate.
The following balance changes are being applied in this update:
Fill the Pot
Rarity changed from Common to Rare.
Empower
Rarity changed from Rare to Common. (This is to balance out Aurora's rarity pool after adjusting Fill the Pot)
Bronze Boomerang
Can now only be played once per turn.
Miscellaneous
The in-game Credits have been updated
Various minor bugs and glitches fixed
Conclusion
As we mentioned in our last update, this is a smaller update than typical as we are working on a larger one including a whole new Hero and the Tournament system. Not to mention preparation for the release on consoles. You can expect all of those in the next couple of months.
Regardless, we hope you enjoy the latest additions to Roguebook.
- Team Abrakam
Happy Holidays from the Roguebook Team
This year has been a wild ride for Roguebook. With further updates and the console versions on the horizon.
But it's important to take a break, so we'll be spending the holiday with friends, seeing family, and eating far too much food.
Happy Holidays Everyone!
Save 35% on Roguebook in the Steam Winter Sale!
There's no better time to get caught up in the pages of the Roguebook than over this holiday period with 35% off during the Steam Winter Sales.
We hope you’re enjoying the latest changes to Roguebook.
As mentioned in our recent patch notes, we are currently working on a new hero, a daily tournament system, and for the upcoming console release. These things are quite large in scope and will take until late February to be ready for release. In the meantime, we would like to provide a smaller update focused around balance changes and less about content.
Balance change discussion
There have been a lot of content additions since the initial release of Roguebook. We feel we’re at a point where it is worthwhile to consider the state of the game and make some adjustments. Specifically, we are looking at making it a little bit harder to get those ‘crazy combos’ going.
Let’s be clear, we have intentionally tilted the game in the direction of game-breaking combos. We know it is fun to discover these and really crush your run from time to time - the problem we have is when it is happening in most runs. With all of the new content additions generally making the game easier, we feel it is a good time to tone some of these interactions back.
The goal is to have a set of changes we can apply to the game in January, but we want to gather some community feedback first. We expect that we are going to be tampering with some of the cards that players really love - and we’re a bit concerned about taking away important pieces of fun that players like in the game.
So, in short, we’d like to show you our proposed balance change list, and hear your thoughts on it.
Proposed balance changes:
Change summary
These changes intend to reduce the abundance of energy in Roguebook that can lead to players doing unfair things too easily, while also stopping enemies from doing unfair things to keep up. The hope is that players will be a bit less explosive, giving subtler synergies a chance to shine, and toning down enemies slightly so that they are less dangerous when you do not get your power cards and gems for a run.
Dissolve will be added to the following cards:
Concentrate
Tea Time
Aurora's Promise
Rally
Ogre Surge
Ogre Cookie
Specific changes:
Rising Tempo Changed to “Whenever you play an attack card” instead of “whenever you play a card.”
Bold Bargainer Cost increased to 2 energy from 1 energy.
Unstable Concoction Energy gain reduced to 6 energy from 8.
Fill The Pot Now only draws 1 card (instead of 1 card per Sip).
Bronze Boomerang Reworked to trigger at the end of the turn like Phasestone. New effect: "After you play this, shuffle it into your deck at the end of the turn."
Map Generation Changes:
Currently, Faeria Well distribution at Rank 2 is:
Chapter 1: 2 Wells
Chapter 2: 2 Wells
Chapter 3: 2 Wells
We will be changing the distribution as follows:
Chapter 1: 1 Well
Chapter 2: 1 Well
Chapter 3: 3 Well
Overall, this reduces the total possible Faeria Well count each run by 1. Perhaps more importantly, it will more heavily weighs these valuable resources in Chapter 3 - which players sometimes neglect in exploring due to being strong enough to confront the boss right away.
Enemy Changes:
In conjunction with these changes, overall enemy stat scaling will be reduced in the higher Epilogues to compensate for the reduction in player power.
Conclusion:
As mentioned above, we are eager to know what you think. None of these changes are set in stone, which of course is one of the major reasons we are asking how you feel about them.
Please leave your thoughts in this Steam post, or if you prefer - please join our official Discord for a live discussion.
Thank you for your continued feedback.

Patch Notes - Version 1.8: Community Card Update
Today we are releasing our 4th major update since the release of Roguebook in June of this year. This update contains some new cards, talents, optimizations, and the usual bug fixes.
We thank you for all enjoying the game so far, and have some big news on what is to come next…
New Cards
We announced the winner of our design contest at the end of last month, and are releasing the fully playable cards today. These cards become automatically available and require no additional unlocking. Congratulations, Alex!
New Talents
You may not have noticed, but Sharra and Aurora have been behind on talents compared to the rest of the heroes. With today’s update, each hero will be brought to the same total of 12 possible talents each.
Sharra
Bravado Sharra gains 1 Power for each stack of Courage she has.
Berserking At the end of each turn, gain 2 Block for each stack of Courage Sharra has.
Threefold Rhythm The third card Sharra plays each turn gains 3 Power.
Aurora
Breeder The first time you summon Frogs each turn, summon 3 more.
These talents will be available on all future runs.
Adjustments and Bug Fixes:
Added further optimizations to game performance
Added controller support for hero selection
Chosen hero skins are now displayed for all characters in the hero selection panel
Fixed a bug where voice lines were disabled on the first start up of the game
Fixed several issues with displaying tooltips during battle
Fixed issues involving Unstable Capacitor
Characters should no longer randomly become completely white
When disabled, flash gems are no longer completely greyed out
Disintegrate now draws itself at the start of each battle, consistent with Binding Topaz behavior.
Stopped Naddim from flying into the sky when the player has a Magic Carpet
Fixed edge cases which allowed players to skip unlocking Seifer by using a Wind Gate
Fixed several typos and localization issues
Fixed some issues with the tutorial system
Sharra now says the correct voice line when picking up her 3rd Faeria orb
What’s next?
This is the first update since release that does not contain a major new feature - and there is a reason for that. We have been actively working on a few big things that might interest you.
Daily Tournaments
In short, we will be releasing a system of daily tournaments for players to compete in. These events will contain special modifiers and have global rankings.
We want to provide you another way to enjoy our game, if you’re interested in this sort of thing.
This feature is huge, but already in production and is coming your way. Stay tuned.
New Hero
The fifth hero for Roguebook is already in its internal testing phases. This is perhaps the #1 most requested feature for the game. We’ve actually been working on them for some time, but we’re far enough along now to be confident to announce they will be ready early next year.
This hero will be available in normal runs via DLC, but you will be able to use them in the Daily Tournament system with everyone else for free.
Who is the hero? Someone you may not expect...
Console Release in February - 2022
We’re happy to announce that our console versions will become available this February.
Working on the console versions has taken an enormous amount of time, and it’s been going on in the background of every update we have ever released. However, we’re quite pleased with the progress. Apologies for the delay!
Conclusion
If you can’t tell, we have a goal to please as many types of players as possible. Don’t plan on getting the console version? No problem, we still have a major tournament feature coming for you. Don’t like the idea of daily tournaments? No problem, we have another hero coming for you. Don’t want a new hero? Well, uhh… really? Sorry :(
In all seriousness, we recognize today’s major update is relatively small in comparison to the huge ones we have released previously. We just felt it was important to let you know why.
Thank you for playing the game that we work very hard on, and good luck out there.
