Firstly I would like to thank you all for your continued support of this VR experience, and I want to share some updates on full release and where we are headed with Roma VR - Domus.
Compatibilty
There has been some feedback about compatibility, so I want to reiterate that as of right now I can only offer full support to Oculus Rift users. The Quest version is being developed, but it will not be released prior to the full release of the Rift version.
The primary reason is that the Quest cannot support the HDRP shader on which this VR experience is built, so it has to be re-built in URP. In an effort to minimize doing the same work twice, I am focusing on finishing the Rift version first.
My mission statement
This game has always been a product of passion, I wished to "travel" into ancient Rome and be immersed in it's world from a historically accurate standpoint. This is still the goal and it's the reason why I refer to Roma VR - Domus as an experience rather than a game.
Although as of now the Domus borrows a lot of it's wall art and furnishings from other Roman homes, (and in some spaces things are just created from imagination due to the lack of historical information available), I am trying to stay as historically accurate as I know to be.
The full release will likely still have many elements which are not truly accurate to how this home looked if you were to really travel back in time, but the essence of ancient Roman life will still be preserved.
Full release and what to expect
The full release will be coming in the next few months, and here are a few goals that I would like to achieve in 1.0
Free Roam Mode
The goal for this mode will be to be able to walk around the Domus, and learn more about the objects and rooms outside of the guided tour. Currently I am working on the ability to walk up to an item or space and either pick it up or visually examine it with a pop up to read and learn more about it.
Guided Tour Mode
The tour will be expanded to be longer and it will include previously closed rooms, like the shops.
Interior Design
As I previously mentioned - I would like to keep this house as historically accurate as possible. With that in mind many of the frescoes will be updated to reflect new research, and in other places visual elements will come from similar homes and our creative discretion. The current plan is to discern which element came from where in the free roam mode.
That's it for now, thank you all again for your support!
