Devlog#9 We are Legion: Rome graphic artists' work in progress
Ave Legionaries!
Today we want to share some of our graphic artists' work in progress.
Do You remember our Centurion Armour concept art?
This is how it looks for now. It will be implemented into the game further in the development process.
Meanwhile, we are working on combat animations, balance and mechanics. As You can see, we want to have sword and board working together during the fight...
...To the ruin of our enemies.
The camp looks more and more vivid.
And some more on our Twitter: https://twitter.com/TitaniteGames/status/1420025363183374356 Sadly it's too big to put it on Steam due to the 3 Mb limitation for gifs.
There is a new Creation Process video on Youtube where we are making Arena. Tell us what do You think :) [previewyoutube="zk67e6WAV6M;full"]
Meanwhile, we are constantly working on improving our combat system, models, optimization, AI, and many other things that we will be sharing in Devlogs every three weeks. Feel free to chat with us about the game on our Discord Channel https://discord.gg/KZwTUYmXqv

https://store.steampowered.com/app/1086990/Commander_85/ Note Commander '85 has a free prologue version here: https://store.steampowered.com/app/1356460/Commander_85_Prologue/ One might be discouraged by Mostly Negative reviews of Commander '85. It's a very niche and complex game with, quite frankly, TERRIBLE introduction and tutorial that led to Negative reviews bombing after 30 min of gameplay (30 min doesn't even cover the prologue part of the game). We strongly suggest checking the prologue first if You like its gameplay. It's free, unique, complex and fun, but it's clunky to dive in.
Right now we are on the verge of a big milestone in game production. We will share it in the next Devlog.
No one would have participated in the Battle of Gergovia if a village had not been established there. [previewyoutube="V8CnFkv3rig;full"]
It will be a bloody battle for sure! Wait to the end and see how the Battle of Gergovia scenario looks like! [previewyoutube="aYga3KKAnx0;full"]

The first one is creating the Gaul Warrior concept art. By using reference, sketch and outline to the finished model. [previewyoutube="bu7M8hAkFIw;full"] The second video shows the process of creating a helmet model used by legion members with attention to detail, such as real battle damage or rust stains.
[previewyoutube="DlRk2AghvuM;full"] The third video shows the work of level design on shaping the camp, placing individual elements so that the whole is coherent, aesthetic and gives the impression of natural space.
[previewyoutube="uGqlEM0d8lA;full"] The fourth video shows the work on the tower, which will be a vital element of the fortress that we will besiege.

Battle Scenario is where most of the game will happen. Here we will fight for the glory of Rome, Gaius Julius Caesar and our purse. We can start the Battle Scenario by talking to our commander in the Camp.
Battle Scenarios will be NOT replayable until the game ends. What happens in Gaul Forest stays in Gaul Forest.
When we finish the campaign, we can play any previous Battle Scenarios, possibly with an increased and/or customizable challenge level.
One Battle Scenario can be quite long. They are divided into stages and events and usually contain optional side missions alongside the main quest for a certain stage. We are planning to make a checkpoint based save system.
For example. The main mission is to fight Your way to the Gaul fortress through the forest. Side missions might be to find hidden troops in the forest and/or to loot local villagers resources.
Many of You have asked us if there will be choices to make during gameplay and the answer is Yes. For example, it will be Your choice to either loot those villagers, kill them all or just let them escape.
We don't aim to make it overly complex as We are Legion: Rome is primarily an action game, but we want to make sure they noticeably matter for the story and game-ending (there will be more than one game ending).
We often come across obstacles, gates, etc. with which we will have to deal. We will also find appropriate tools for this, such as ballista and battering rams.
We divide Battle Scenarios into six modes: - Classic Battle - Siege - Attack - City takeover - Siege - Defence - Retreat - Chase
Those modes have a specific set of objectives required to win, and some of the mechanics are exclusive for a given mode.
Some of You have asked us about free building fortifications, siege machines etc. At first, we thought it might be a good idea, but ultimately we forfeit this for various good reasons. (storywise, Kassius is not an engineer, but he might help engineers during the Battle as a soldier).
We are planning to create some barricade or local defence spots upgrades instead, but it's subject to be tested and discussed.
Gates are down! Guards are dead! Time to take what is Yours and cut any hands trying to hold it... or maybe not? Mirabella my dear...
Gameplay-wise we want to create challenging, fast-paced and diverse missions for players with a good story and many Gaul Warriors behind them. We are preparing a player skill-based fencing system to allow Kassius to cut through enemies with the Legionary style from Gaius Julius Caesar's favourite X Legion.
During Battle Scenarios, we will be able to do Cohort quests that are purely fight-based. If You are a member of a Cohort specialized in Gladius&Scutum, then expect challenges like "Do 10 perfect blocks" or "Decapitate 10 enemies with Gladius". Simple, but it's a fun addition to otherwise event-based main and side quests.

Castle Flipper - Premiere
Hi Folks!
I know you wait for some content from this game but our friends have a premiere of Castle Flipper.
Along with it comes:
• Stream that should start in few moments • Giveaway - for the best Medieval jokes we will be offering some Steam Keys of Castle Flipper • Great deal on launch with very nice price - just 18.99$ - 15% • Royalty bonus for those who own House Flipper or/and Train Station Renovation
• Be quick! The offer lasts between May 26 – June 2
Currently, we have a functional camp with textures still to be applied. Most of the NPC functionalities are working well too. There are many tests and trials ahead of us to find the perfect mood and atmosphere of the camp. What do You think? Should it be grim and dirty, or maybe "Glory of The Rome" approach?
How Jupiter see his brave warriors now.
Camp models overview
We will add various decals to give a camp a character and a "people are living here" feeling. As we are part of Gaius Julius Caesar favourite X Legion, we believe their camp was the epitome of Discipline, and we are decorating our camp with this vision in mind. a campfire, a meeting place and probably the most joyful place in the camp.
In parallel, we are preparing The Arena. The main purpose of this place is to allow Players to hone their skill in fighting in a controlled environment. It will have two modes.
Free Fight - fighting for the sole purpose of improving own skill in using weapons or trying new ones. It will be a 1vs1 fights only.
Tournament - in a tournament, we will be able to win an extra coin. We are still brainstorming about its balance. Most probably, we will make it a rare event that will happen every few Battle Scenarios.
In Tournament mode, there will be 1vs1, 2vs2, 3vs3 and Last Man Standing modes fights.
Q&A
We have received several questions if there will be Camp Defence situations and the answer is No.
By design, Legion Camp is a place where Kassius can heal, equip, prepare and progress the story, and we want to keep it this way, leaving the fighting to Battle Scenarios. Don't worry. There will be defending the fortifications Battle Scenarios. We want to keep it separate from Camp Stage for various reasons. *** Another question was if fellow soldiers are talking to us when we are in camp, and the answer is Yes , and they are already doing it in its basic form. It's an important part of the immersion :) *** The last question-answer today is "will be there modding support in this game".
We haven't planned it. At first, we want to make a good game for the release and prepare a game demo. If there will be modding support depends on many factors like game success and our publisher decisions. It would be awesome to reach this point where it would be possible :) *** If you have any questions, feel free to post them in the comments or join our Discord Server for a quicker response. *** Meanwhile, we are constantly working on improving our combat system, models, optimization, AI, and many other things that we will be sharing in Devlogs every three weeks.
Stay vigilant Legionary! Ave Caesar! Yours "We are Legion: Rome" Titanite Games Team PS. Have You seen this cool Gaul Warrior concept art below "Add to Wishlist button" below? :) https://store.steampowered.com/app/1120790/We_are_Legion_Rome/ High Tier Gaul Warrior, good luck with this one.
Let's say we have just accomplished one of Battle Scenarios. This is our Victory Screen: Work in progress, might change at full release.
Every Battle Scenario will contain both main and side missions listed on the left.
Side missions will provide an extra reward, but since healing is limited during the battlefield (more below), it's a risk to reward choice if the Player wants to undertake the quest, especially since it is possible to fail a quest.
The "Challenges" is part of the Cohort System we will tell more about in a separate Devlog as part of character progression.
Now we are back to our Camp, Victorious but wounded, and our armour is damaged. Battle Scenarios mainly aim to use the main combat mechanics without creating much disruption, while the Camp is a place to manage and explore. The Player can focus on searching for additional tasks, improving his characters' characteristics, interacting with NPC, and exploring the plot.
Our first steps will be to visit a medic to heal ourselves and a smith to repair our armour.
The medic will also supply us with bandages that are our only way to heal during the battle, but they will never heal us fully. The full capabilities of smith are yet to be decided as we are still brainstorming about equipment upgrades possibilities. His stock will depend on Cohort to which we belong. After a recent battle, we were able to advance in cohort ranks! Time for an equipment upgrade! Join the Legion they said...
The recruit's pay is not too high, so one must take additional activities to keep finances afloat.
There will be possibilities to earn extra coin during the camp stage by doing additional labour and/or fighting on The Arena. We can receive Side Quests for both Battle Scenarios and Camp from NPC. We will hear Caesar's announcements here as well.
The Arena is subject to the next Devlog, but it will be beneficial to visit Trainer first and spend hard-earned money to improve our fighting abilities and statistics. Cohort System and our finances limit the training capabilities of the Trainer. We will be able to:
learn active skills like shield bash or kick
increase our statistics in strength, stamina and quickness
learn new attacks for each of the available weapons.
The time we can spend at Camp is unlimited.
Prepared and tired, we can finally come to our Contubernium tent and write a Letter to Mirabella...
In the next Devlog, we will go further into legionary camp life. Stay tuned about We are Legion: Rome news by adding us to Your Wishlist!
Let's start with the armours concept arts. We plan on making several types of armour including Lorica Hamata and Lorica Squamata that will be used in the early-to-mid phase of the game. In the last Devlog, we have started a discussion about equipment and shared Lorica Segmentata (or Lorica Laminata) concept arts with You.
They are our late-game heavy armours that will allow You to challenge Gauls with style and maxed skill tree in a high-prestige cohort. Meanwhile...[1] Join Roman Army they said...
You will meet young ambitious people like You. They said... We have some work in progress footage! You can check it out HERE or on the video further below
Equipment
The EQ consists of
various different weapons like a short sword, long sword, axe, one-handed spear. Each with a distinct fighting style.
different size shields,
various body parts protection items
a few layers of body protection: tunics, soffits, armours.
We treat buying a weapon as unlocking a combat tool In the game, we want to avoid the theme of buying a 'better shortsword', shifting the burden of the game to learning how to wield them.
Armours will be hard to obtain and provide a simple, but meaningful buff to our legionary combat abilities.
We are going to implement a system for changing / destroying / improving equipment To reflect an ancient soldier's life, we introduced the EQ destruction system (and the health loss and regeneration system to be discussed in future Devlogs).
During the fight, the EQ of the main character will be diminished. The maximum level of destruction of the weapon will reduce its damage by 50% (value might change) and will allow us to complete the battle scenario every time. Later we have to fix it in the camp phase.
We assume the possibility of making upgrades to each of the weapons.
Here is our idea for the equipment tab: work in progress, might change in the final release. What do You think about it?
The equipment menu holds a little tip about our next Devlog. New models, work in progress in the next Devlog 15.04.2021! Devlog#2 - Introduction
Ave Legionaries!
We are happy to announce that from today we will publish Devlogs about game development every three weeks to keep You informed about progress and allow us to receive early feedback from the community.
So without further ado lets dive into the world of ancient legionaries.
Featured world:
We are Legion: Rome will be happening in the world inspired by series of military campaigns waged by the Roman proconsul Julius Caesar against Gallic tribes colloquially known as the Gallic Wars.
We will meet historical characters like Vercingetorix and fight in historical battles like the Battle of Bibracte. However, most of the background behind those events and people will be a work of fiction. It will allow us to be flexible and astounding in our storytelling. We do not aim at full historical accuracy, but we do not intend to deviate too much from it either. We want to make a realistic, action-packed game set in a fascinating period.
Who is Kassius
Our story's main hero. A young, ambitious recruit who is eager to fight for the glory of Rome!... and more prosaic reasons. We are Legion: Rome will tell the tale of a man thrown into the whirlwind of great events and less-great reality hidden behind pathos. Blood, sweat, mud and tears, this is Your life now Legionary!
The story of Kassius and other legionaries will be down-to-earth, brutal and...human. Historical events will determine our actions rather than we influence their course. Kassius motivations to join the war are simple. He needs to gain wealth to marry the love of his life Mirabella. He will correspond with her during the game, but should he share the methods used to reach the goal?
(Letters to Mirabella are going to be separate subject for future Devlogs)
We will begin as the lowest rank legionary and climb into the army's hierarchy. Who knows what the future may bring for a talented man. Maybe we will become a Centurion one day? One thing we know for sure, the path to this honour won't be easy. In the beginning, we will need to gain the respect of other legionaries in Contubernium and try to advance to more prestigious Cohorts.
(Contubernium and Cohort systems are matters for another Devlog, though.)
That's about it story-wise. Gameplay-wise, Kassius is a killing machine.
As much as we want to create an interesting story, deep characters and complex camp mechanics, we are not going to lie - We are Legion: Rome is the first and foremost action game.
All of Camp life activities have one primary purpose: To prepare You for the Next Battle to defeat an enemy in the most glorious way possible. And Cohorts will reward You for that with higher rank, new skills and better stuff. Several battle scenarios, team-fighting, various weapons, and easy to learn hard to master combat system are the main thing in our game. You better be well equipped as Gauls are fearsome warriors, but how the equipment will work in We are Legion: Rome?
About the equipment system, design inspirations, and models work in progress in the next Devlog 25.03.2021!
