Hello everyone! Thank you all for waiting on the latest development update for Rootlash. In the past weeks, there have been a lot of changes made to the behaviour of the enemy AI, objectives and more!
AI The enemy AI was in my opinion lacking. Originally they'd just storm at the tree if the tree was spotted but now once an enemy spots the tree, he'll give a vocal warning to every other woodworker, soldier, etc in the area and they'll be sure to come for you!
Next to the warning, the Some AI will now also patrol the Camps that they belong to, keeping an eye out for any strange trees moving ;)
Enemy humans will now also bleed when they are killed by the tree!
Furthermore, on the development AI logic has also seen a lot of changes to the AI and its behaviour a lot easier. Though development isn't finished yet. In the future, we'll add a specific fleeing behaviour for certain types of AI in which they'll run from the tree in fear!
Skills Some of the Tree's skills have been reworked. Now there is a cooldown and minimum required stamina score for the player can activate the skill again. This is done to balance the spamming to easily kill a bunch of humans
New Gameplay Teaser Last but not least, we have also created a new gameplay teaser in which you can see some of the latest changes and additions!
We are approach a point very, very close till I am confident to open up the Playtests in which you all can experience a small part of the game, to gather feedback on. I look forward to that moment so stay tuned!
Development Update
Hey everyone! It's been honestly too long since my last community update. I've been working on Rootlash for the past months, trying to get what I like to deem an acceptable build to get the game to be tested.
Encampments!
With this new Build, there's a new and larger map to be explored (which is still a work in progress). The new map will include a few enemy camps, which ofcourse will have to be Destroyed, in order to reclaim the forest!
But that is not everything! AI behaviour has also been updated, with now roaming enemies to make the camps feel more alive! In the future, there will also be people actively logging the trees around the camp but that will be added at a later point.
Missions!
With this new update, we've also added specific Trees, that will give you missions related to the area you're trying to liberate! These missions may vary from destroying camps, to finding specific resources, rescuing a tree and more! We'd love to hear your feedback on this in the comments, and when the playtest is live!
Day and night cycle
Another important aspect of the game will be it's day and night cycle, the new day and night cycle will give the tree's an advantage, or disadvantage depending on the current time in the game! You will be a lot stronger during the daytime, as your tree will be able to use the photosynthesis at its full power!
That will be all for this update! Stay tuned as there is much more to come, including the test announcement!
URGENT COMMUNITY UPDATE - (There is no Official Game Test)
Hello everyone, I'm very sorry to write this post in the first place. But I would like to warn you all of a scam that is currently going on involving Rootlash. There are people claiming to be the creator of "Rootlash" and trying to get people to test the game.
Anyone that approaches you through Discord to Test Rootlash is a scammer trying to send you malware.
Please be aware and if possible report any usernames that are claiming to be the creator of Rootlash. If you find any website(s) spreading "Free test versions" then please report them to us.
Stay safe out there and thank you all for reading. - Niels
Rootlash Devlog 1
Hello everyone! I have been working on Rootlash in the past months and some major changes have been made in which I will be sharing some insight and sneakpeeks.
First and foremost, the biggest change that we've made is to change the character model. The old character had some issues with its movement and fighting. Sadly, I was unable to resolve these so I had to opt in for using another model. Our new Tree character does come with some new awesome animations and moves! From new fighting animations to simple things such as running will now be possible. This will also up the pace of the game, which was a critical feedback point for the game as some people felt that the pace was too slow.
But enough talking and let's share some footage of the new tree in action!
Here you can see our tree fighting off the wood workers who are trying to destroy his forest! To improve the feel and flow of combat, the tree will now automatically target an enemy when you want to smack them.
And as you can see these new animations feel and flow a lot better than the previous model that was used before. I am looking forward to your thoughts and feedback about this change.
So what's next?
For the coming month. I am also planning to improve the AI as a matter of look and feel. I also want to replace the current "soldier" model to more fit the theme of the game. I also want to introduce fleeing behaviour for the AI in which they will try to run away if they feel like they're losing.
Also as for the open world, I have been prototyping and testing around various of settings, and now I have come up with a solution of having a world with different biomes, seasons and more. This is all still a Work In Progress so stay tuned for more news!
That will be all again for this week and I look forward to hearing your thoughts and ideas for Rootlash! :)
