RPG Maker 2000 Update v1.62

Hi everyone! We have a new update for RPG Maker 2000.
The Changelog is over here.

Instructions

In order to apply the bug fixes to your current project:
- Create a new project
- Go to the newly created project's folder and copy RPG_RT.exe.
- Go to your current project's folder and replace RPG_RT.exe with the newly copied one.
- Finished!

Changed

Editor
- When importing music files, all allowed file types (mid, wav, mp3) are now shown at once.
- Comments in events can now have an arbitrary length and number of lines instead of being limited to 4 lines with limited width.

Fixed

Editor
- A topic in the help file (Events Setup Notes) had an incorrect title. Also, information about “\n[\v[...]]” and “\n[0]” in messages was missing.
- The error message for missing RTP had a typo.
- Some number fields in event commands (Change Variable, Change HP, Change EXP, Change Level, Conditional Branch) had incorrect maximum values.

Engine
- On multicore-processor machines, a race condition would cause key states reported to events to be unreliable while a key was being held down (it would appear to “bounce” instead of being reported as continuously pressed).
- Escaping a backslash in a message with another backslash (“\\”) would not work properly and cause weird behavior when the following character was “n”.

Issue with broken projects resolved!

It appears our last Steam update messed up projects when they were opened. They would show an error about a missing DLL afterwards. We are really sorry about that, and we just released another update. The updated version will detect messed up projects and automatically repair them.

Sorry for this issue!

v1.61 (2015-09-15)

Added

Editor and Engine

  • Battle messages can now contain placeholders (%S, %O, %V, and %U for subject, object, value and unit) instead of having a fixed order and position of those values.
  • This also applies to skill usage messages, state messages and inn messages.
  • A few additional values can be used in battle strings, such as the attacker’s name for evasion messages, the target name for skill messages (only for single-target skills), etc.
  • When opening an older project, you will be prompted to migrate it, which will replace the engine and change the battle strings to use placeholders.
Battle messages which become too long for a line will automatically be word-wrapped.

Changed

Editor only

  • Text size of map event scripts has been reduced a bit.

Engine only

  • The default speed of the battle messages has been decreased a bit, because it was really fast. The decision key can still be used to skip messages early.

Fixed

Editor only

  • Regression from v1.60: Creating game installers didn’t work because the Steam release was missing a file.
  • There were many inconsistencies and missing or outdated pieces of information in the help file.
  • The boxes for the stat curves of actors in the database were in the wrong order.
  • There was a space missing between the colon and the number of items in the item selection screen.
  • In the battle event start condition window, the “Ax+B” values were erroneously displayed as “A+B*X”.
  • A few messages in the default database were wrong.
  • The labels of many battle messages were wrong.
  • The word “Frame” was confusingly used in different ways in the animation editor.
  • The default database had several broken sound and image file references.
The “Head” and “Body” equipment types were reversed in some places in the editor.
  • Some texts in the editor were missing or cut off.
  • The steps and points edit boxes for decreasing HP/MP every few steps while a status is afflicted were reversed in the editor.

Editor and engine
  • The serifless bitmap font showed a yen sign instead of a backslash.

Added

  • First official English translation.
  • Colored event command highlighting.
Event commands now have different colors, based on the colors used in
  • RPG Maker VX Ace.
  • The event script list is using a striped background.
  • The resource manager now shows additional descriptive names for folders.

Changed

  • New fonts.
  • MS Gothic/MS Mincho as bitmap fonts (“RPG2000”/”RPG2000G”).
The fonts are now packaged with the software (both editor and runtime) itself and can be used while the software is running, without permanent installation to the Windows “Fonts” folder. This means that players also don’t have to install any additional fonts anymore.
  • The maximum number of pictures concurrently on the screen has been increased from 50 to 1000.
  • Picture operations (Show, Move, Erase) are not blocked by messages anymore.
  • The “Enter Hero Name” feature now allows entering 12 characters.

Fixed

  • On Windows XP and newer, dialog boxes could become trapped behind their parent windows, causing the RPG Maker to appear hung or blocked. There was no way to get the dialogs back to the foreground other than using Alt+Tab.
  • When entering fullscreen, an “DDERR_UNSUPPORTED” error could appear and crash the game.
  • For some users, the mouse would “fly around” in the editor when drawing tiles or moving animation frames in the database.
