We just updated the beta branch with subtitles in several languages! Jump in and enjoy the story with all these options! We hope this makes the game more accessible to everyone : )



There are tons of small fixes included as well, some of which for example are the persistence of your locomotion choice (no more resetting it at every level or when restarting the game), as well as some difficulty adjustments, specially in the forest, where things are a bit more tricky now : )

Subtitles are still in beta as we would love to hear your thoughts about them and we might even tweak them a bit more to make them as comfortable as possible for everyone.

ENGLISH SUBTITLES IN BETA!

You can opt in the beta branch to start testing the English subtitles! They are on by default but we will implement a menu to toggle them once we have tested thoroughly and fixed minor problems with them. More languages are coming as well, the first round will be the following:



We have been working tirelessly on an implementation of subtitles that is both comfortable and useful in a narrative game like ours. As some of you might know there are problems with VR implementation of subtitles that make it a much harder task to solve than in regular pancake games.

From VAC (vergence accommodation conflict) when the subtitles are rendered at a "wrong" depth in 3D space, to having the subtitles attached to the HMD movements in a jarring way. We opted for placing subtitles in 3D space around the environment in an artisanal way, more work for us but hopefully a better solution for everyone. It is not perfect but we think it might be a good compromise.

We want to test them and fix the problems you might find with them, so let us know! (lots of them and lots of manual work was involved so some bugs might be present)

I hope you are all having a great holiday! We are hard at work making subtitles available in game and expect to have a beta of them very soon. We are making them a bit different than most games in order to have a more comfortable solution that doesn't have the depth perception problems most VR subtitles have. We are working also in translations for the subtitles and expect to have German, Spanish and Italian in the first batch : ) (More languages possibly coming as well).

We are hard at work on the implementation of subtitles for Runes. We are on the right track and expect to have them ready for you soon.

Since we are implementing subtitles is a great time to include different languages for the subtitles and have a better experience for non-english speakers. Let us know what languages you would like to see in the game. You can tell us here or directly on our Discord.

Update is live!

We just merged the beta branch into the public one with the fixes we posted yesterday. We tested the game several times and found no problems. I hope you will have a smooth experience. As always let us know of any feedback and we will fix any issues as fast as we can. Enjoy Oblivion : ) and thank you for your continued support.

Some of the bigger fixes are:

-Fixed fps dependent speed with smooth locomotion.

-Fixed telekinesis and smooth locomotion. Before, using telekinesis while having smooth locomotion caused it to move you forward as you moved objects. Now this is fixed, when holding an object with your left hand you will not propel forward as well.

-Fixed audio problems with some enemies.

-Fixed smooth locomotion restarting after tutorials, etc. Now it should be seamless and not require you to activate it again after cinematics or tutorials (only after changing whole levels).

-Fixed a possible serious bug that would (very rarely) cause players to skip whole sections of the game (such as the forest and some puzzles).

BETA BRANCH FIXES

Thank you everyone that purchased Runes! The good reception is overwhelming and makes us so happy. Thank you so much for the feedback as well, we are implementing fixes and catching early bugs as fast as we can. Since Runes is a lot of moving pieces we are implementing these fixes first in the beta branch of the game and once we know everything is smooth we will push it to the public branch.

Some of the fixes we implemented are:

To select the beta branch right click on Runes and select properties



After that you can go to the BETAS tab and select beta

OCULUS SDK version is now LIVE too!

We just updated the game to include the option of launching the native Oculus SDK version with snap turning, grip button grabbing and better controller setup for the Oculus Touch.

It should give you the option to launch the game in that mode, but we found that if you have SteamVR running it launches the SteamVR version right away.

If you have any problems simply right click on the game and you will have the option.



Apparently if you are running SteamVR already steam will think you want to launch the SteamVR version. But if SteamVR is off and you launch the game with the Play button it should give you the option right away.

OCULUS BUILD IMPROVEMENT BY THE END OF THE DAY



Hello eveyone!



We got feedback of some users having issues using the Rift on the steamvr build.
We are investigating the issue and will have a soultion for it by including a native oculus sdk version by the end of the day.

Thanks everyone that brought this problem to our attention: in the mess of releasing the game we overlooked it.

You'll have it fixed and ready with a working snap turn, adjusted controllers and gameplay for oculus suuper duper soon!
