This Week In RuneScape - The 20th Anniversary Grand Party!
Welcome back, 'Scapers, to a new year of adventure! This year, RuneScape turns 20, and you can find out how we plan to celebrate in the Game News tab. Meanwhile, we've got the first Patch Notes of 2021, and the Community Tab is back with some fabulous fan art. Fireworks at the ready...
Game News
We're kicking things off with a bang this January with the first of many updates to celebrate RuneScape's 20th Anniversary: The Grand Party! Read on to find out how you can join in the fun, hang out with the J-Mods, and get yourself some swanky new clothes to party in.
RuneScape Turns 20!
It's hard to believe, but this little game of ours is 20 years old, and we're throwing a massive birthday party to celebrate!
We're not just celebrating our game - we're celebrating all of you. Without our wonderful 'Scapers, there'd be no RuneScape at all. Your passion, dedication, and community spirit are what have held us together all these years - so give yourselves a round of applause and have a big ol' slice of birthday cake on us.
The celebration kicks off with a month-long Grand Party, to be held in Lumbridge Crater - but the fun doesn't end there. Keep your eyes peeled for the prologue to a multi-part, year-long 20th Anniversary Quest series later this month.
Now... I believe you were promised cake?
The Grand Party
Come one, come all, to The Grand Party! Make your way to Lumbridge Crater (you know, the gigantic hole behind Lumbridge Castle) to celebrate RuneScape's 20th birthday in style with your fellow fans. Over the month ahead, we'll be celebrating different aspects of the game by offering buffs and rewards, as well as a juicy 10% XP bonus while in the Crater.
Got nothing to wear? Don't panic - the Wise Old Man has been putting some of that bank robbery money to good use with some fancy duds: have a word with him at the crater to claim your exclusive 20th Anniversary Outfit and Cape.
Then we're ready to party! This month-long extravaganza will feature weekly events, each celebrating a different aspect of the wonderful world of RuneScape, featuring incredible bonuses.
This first week is the Celebration of Quests, where you can take part in three miniquests featuring iconic characters from the RuneScape roster. Head to the crater to have a go to earn some special prizes like the new 20th anniversary cake, XP lamps and more!
While you're there, be sure to catch up on some skilling - you'll get a not-too-shabby 10% XP buff while you're training in the crater.
Well, what are you waiting for?
Join the Anniversary Celebrations Today!
What, you didn't expect the J-Mods to sit back and watch you lot have all the fun, did you? We're hosting a series of community activities so we can all party together on RuneScape's big day.
To kick off the month-long celebration, we're hosting a schedule of community events so we can party together with our best buds (that's you!) on RuneScape's 20th Birthday!

RuneScape 20 Merchandise
Get this: you can also celebrate out of game with our range of anniversary merch. Angels Scapes has crafted a range of collectible pins and keyrings, including the RS Classic Logo Pin (which also comes in an antique gold limited edition), the Bronze Knight pin, a special 20th Anniversary Baroo collab, and a 20th Anniversary Tutorial Island pin that's just perfect for reliving your first steps into the world of Gielinor. Look! The doors open to reveal Lumbridge Castle decked out for its own tiny 20th Anniversary Celebration.
For those of you looking to max your FashionScape, we've got limited edition mystic robe pins in dark, light, and classic blue colourways.
And have you heard about the Mining and Smithing Skill Cape keyrings?
Plus, check out these magical mini runestones, which come in two collectible sets.
Last, but definitely not least, get your groove on with this new gold pressing of the Original Soundtrack Classics album! The track list follows the very first journey you might have taken through Gielinor, and it looks mighty snazzy, too.
A new Prime Gaming gift drops on January 5th! This time you'll get five knowledge bombs - nifty little things that when consumed will net you 50% extra XP for a whole hour - and the smoke is Twitch purple, which we think looks pretty cool.
Now, these things come with some caveats: you can't stack the strength of the effect, although you can stack the time. They're subject to the same restrictions as Double XP events, and on that topic, the XP effect doesn't stack with Double XP Live - so there's no point saving them! Lastly, they cannot be banked or traded away, although they can be converted to Oddments if you like.
To get your knowledge bombs, simply link your RuneScape and Prime Gaming accounts. For more information, see our Prime Gaming page here.
Premier Club
The season for giving might be over, but Premier Club members can still look forward to a little pick-me-up this month, and indeed, every month for as long as your Premier Club package lasts.
Don't forget to pick up some bargains this New Year! Until January 31st you can get great deals on all sorts of goodies in Solomon's General Store, including Rory the Reindeer, the Pegasus Teleport, and the Assassin Pack.
The text of the 'Gonna Need a Bigger Range' Achievement description has been corrected from 'Cook five sharks in Catherby using the Cooking Gauntlets' to 'Cook five sharks on the range north of Catherby Bank using the Cooking Gauntlets.'
In this week's Community tab, we're ready to PARTY! Join the J-Mods for some celebratory livestreams, peruse our fan-tastic selection of art and screenshots, and learn how you can get your zoomer on, RuneScape style.

Mod Warden's Wintumber Letter 2020
Happy Holidays 'Scapers!
I hope you've all been well through what has been a tough year for many of us, and that RuneScape played a part (however small!) in making your year more enjoyable.
I'd like to extend a personal thank you to everyone who has reached out to, supported, or been kind to other players during a year that has been scary, isolating and unpredictable for many. Our whole team wishes you and your loved ones well this festive period. Be excellent to each other - fill it with good times and good people!
A Look Back At This Year
As we close out 2020, I have some really, really great news to share.
The game and community we all love is in a significant state of growth. This year, the number of daily players and active members has peaked at the highest levels we've seen in over five years. The member population is growing, thanks to a continual stream of returning players and brand new adventurers. And best of all, the new players that are joining RuneScape are sticking around more than ever and giving us great, positive feedback.
This is an amazing thing for a game heading into its 20th year, and is testament to how we've all banded together to welcome new faces from far and wide.
I am really proud of what the team delivered and achieved under difficult conditions this year, and for launching on a brand new platform like Steam. When I think of the incredible quality bar we hit with the release of Archaeology, the switch to a monthly release schedule that featured quests, skilling content, DnDs, combat content, the community focused Ninja Strikes and continual improvement of our time limited events... it blows me away.
Our team delivers over 50 weekly releases a year and run an incredibly stable game operation. They adapted, executed to plan and honoured their commitments. We found new ways to build awareness for the game and community we love, and stepped up our engagement and support. There's always things to improve or learn from, but I believe it's been a really great year for RuneScape. I hope you feel the same way.
Then there is you, the citizens of Gielinor, who continue to bring the world to life and light up the internet with your tales, feedback and creations. There were so many highlights this year, but my favourite is how you turned out for the Steam launch. The passion for the game you poured into thousands of reviews (94% positive now!), the incredible content you showcased in the Community Hub and the way you offered help to new players in-game said so much about this passionate community that we are lucky to have. I have no doubt your efforts and spirit have played a huge part in players joining - and staying - in RuneScape over 2020. Thank you.
Speaking of community togetherness - no better way was that shown than with our friends at Old School RuneScape during the global Play Apart Together initiative earlier this year. This was designed to help those struggling to adapt to a changing world through socialising whilst playing games (like RuneScape!). Thanks to your help getting involved with The Drop (and loads of other events), we were able to donate over £100,000 to our mental health charity partners You Are RAD, The Prince's Trust, and CPSL Mind.
Combine that with our Gielinorian Giving events for Mental Health Awareness Week and World Mental Health Day this year, together we've been able to donate over £330,000 to this increasingly-important mental health support network for vulnerable people across the globe - as well as a cool £26,000 for our friends at Special Effect for their One Special Day event earlier this year! As a company, we've been able to donate more than ever before - and at a time when our charity partners needed it the most, with reduced access to funding during lockdown and a corresponding increase in demand on mental health support. Give yourselves a well-deserved pat on the back - it's the season of giving, after all.
Looking Forward
But now, to the future. I have a few updates I want to share that I hope will whet your appetite over the holiday break. As we go into 2021, we will build on this significant momentum and stack our efforts to grow RuneScape, all while delivering even more awesome updates into your hands.
Firstly, we're substantially growing the RuneScape Team over the coming months to up our capabilities and continue delivering a fantastic mix of monthly headline content drops, great holiday events, Yak Tracks and bi-monthly Ninja Strikes.
This is going to be most evident in how we approach Elder God Wars. Instead of one moment to experience EGW content, we found several ways for it to be a dominant story arc throughout the year. This will stretch across a variety of content types, including the release of the Dungeon itself. This is an epic war years in the making and it will all come to a head next year.
We'll also continue on our mission to modernise RuneScape, including a project that I'm particularly excited about – improving your player avatar! Over the next year, we will start a journey to deliver an evolving series of improvements to how the World Guardian is represented in-game. This is a very complex project with many steps, and we'll be involving you regularly throughout development as we work to get the look of the avatar just right. You can expect to hear more early next year... but as it's Christmas, here's a very sneaky look at our visual target for the new quality bar we want to set.
Growing RuneScape continues to be a major goal for us, and next year we'll bring in even more new players and become a true cross-platform MMO with the launch of RuneScape Mobile. Our team have been hard at work working on improvements to the early game experience, onboarding and the optimisation of our UI that will enable us to provide a great experience to all our new mobile adventurers!
And of course, last but by no means least, the headline for 2021 is undeniably RuneScape's massive 20th Anniversary! This incredible milestone is a huge testament to the strength of the world we all love, and we're going all in on celebrations.
The party will start on January 4th (RuneScape's actual birthday!) as part of a month-long event, with even more Anniversary content to sink your teeth into coming throughout the year. All will be revealed next month, starting with those invitations you received last week.
There will be many more surprises to come, but you know me... I keep these cards close until it is the right time to share!
See You In 2021!
And with that, it's time I sign off for the last time this year. We can't wait to celebrate across Gielinor with you this January and kick start what I'm sure will be an even better year in 2021. On behalf of the entire RuneScape team, we wish you all the best this Christmas and Holiday in whatever way you can celebrate it.
Just make sure you keep hold of those party hats - you never know when they may be worth something! We'll see each other again very soon.

TWIR: Violet is Blue Too, Yak Track and More!
Can you believe it's our last This Week In RuneScape of the year? And what a year it's been! From War's Retreat to Raksha, with a quick detour through Archaeology, we've had loads of great updates - with many more to come in 2021. But first, let's take a look at what's happening this week, shall we?
Game News
It's Chriiiiiiistmaaaaaas! The snow is falling, the lights are twinkling, and we've got a few suitably festive updates for you! Read on to see how you can rejoin Violet in the Land of Snow, search Diango's storage on mobile, and get started on a wintery new Yak Track.
Violet is Blue Too
Last time you met Violet, you helped her find the way to Yeti Town and make some new friends. Now everyone's favourite ragamuffin is back, and she needs your help once again!
It's almost Christmas, and Yeti Town should be festooned with tinsel, lights, and baubles - but the whole place has remained dismally undecorated! It's up to you to help Violet get to the bottom of this merry mystery and save the day.
And if you're too busy delivering presents and scoffing mince pies this holiday season, no worries - like the first quest in the series, Violet is Blue Too will be available to play all year, every year from now on.
How to Start
To start Violet is Blue Too, you’ll need to have completed Violet is Blue. There are no other requirements.
Speak to Postie Pete outside the portal on White Wolf Mountain to begin the quest.
Yak Track: The Knight Before Christmas
'Twas the night before Christmas, and all through the house, not a creature was stirring... apart from those bloody great yaks tracking all over the place!
Yes, there's a new Yak Track for the festive season, and it's running from December 14th to January 24th. New here? No worries: to get yak tracking, head to Burthorpe and have a word with Robin, the Reindeer Yak. He'll set you up with a list of tasks to complete, which range from the silly to the skilful. There are two tasks to choose from at each tier, so you choose whichever suits your playstyle best. For each task you check off the list you'll receive a festive reward!
Speaking of rewards, for completing your very first task you'll get the Permafrost Knight outfit, a super-cool suit of armour that'll let you give Gielinor's toughest baddies a frosty reception. Carry on along the track and you'll get weapons to match, along with Robin the Reindeer Yak in pet form, a Chimney Teleport and much more.
Treat yourself to a Premier Pass for just 2 Bonds and you'll unlock even more cosmetics, boosts, pets and animations: including the Tundral Stalker outfit and Snowflake, the winter fairy pet at Tier 50.
Don't forget - if you've joined the Premier Club, you'll have free access to the Premium Track, and you'll get a cheeky bonus Task Skip for any that aren't to your liking.
This time around, you'll be asked to complete a special holiday task: the present hunt! It seems that yaks aren't very good sleigh animals, and somehow Robin's lost some of the presents he was supposed to deliver. Thankfully, he's got a set of Magical Jingle Bells that will help you detect the presents he's lost - just give them a shake and they'll let you know how close you are to the nearest lost present. Easy peasy!
Lastly, our developer elves have received your wishlists and have been busy making a whole bunch of Quality of Life changes to the Yak Track. For more information, have a look at the Patch Notes!
Ninja Strike 16: Diango
You can find Diango in Draynor Market, tirelessly handing out rewards from holiday events past - but this year, he's the one getting the gifts! The Ninja Team has paid him a visit and spruced up his UI. Plus, while they were in the area, they paid a little visit to Death's Office and arranged for him to award a new title...
Diango Improvements
First off, Diango's messaging has been improved in order to clear up any confusion players may have had about the whereabouts of items they already own. In addition, his UI has been given a bit of polish on both mobile and desktop, with bigger icons and a more accessible Search Bar.
Speaking of Search Bars, the one in the Bank will now display items you've got stored with Diango, provided you can withdraw them to your Backpack. There's also a new keybind which will activate the search while in Diango's interface; the key is 'S' in English and German, 'B' in Portuguese and 'R' in French.
Golden Reaper
The Ninjas teamed up with Mods Ryan and Iago, and Death is now ready to award boss loot collectors who go the extra mile with a shiny new title. Completing all boss collection logs will now earn you a prestigious golden variant of 'the Reaper' title. Nice!
Quality of Life Changes
In addition, the Ninjas have swept through the following small updates:
A new log in message tells players when their Invention machines have completed processing inputs or run out of charges.
Auto Disassembler machines will now display the correct processing time when disassembling batches of items.
The 'Deposit all' options for the Deep Sea Fishing Hub and the Menaphos VIP and Port Banks and Deposit Boxes have been consolidated into a single option.
RS@20
Upon logging in after this update, you'll receive a mysterious invitation. An invitation to what, you ask? Why, to RuneScape's 20th Anniversary Party!
That's right, we've had this show on the road for 20 whole years. From the good old days of baking cakes for the Duke of Lumbridge, to facing the Elder Gods themselves, you've stuck with us through thick and thin - and since we couldn't do any of this without the support of our wonderful community, it's only fair that we invite you along to our Grand Party!
Once the event begins, you can use your invitation to teleport straight to the party. Show your invitation to the host and you'll get a special reward - and of course, if you've lost your invite between now and then, they'll be able to give you a spare, too.
So don't be alarmed by that unusual envelope in your Backpack - just hold onto it, and look forward to some official party business in the new year!
Prime Gaming
From tomorrow, December 15th, you can claim new goodies from our friends at Prime Gaming! This time, we're offering two Umbral Chests and a Yak Track Care Package, which contains an assortment of useful items that'll help you along the Yak Track.
To get your rewards, all you need to do is link your RuneScape and Prime Gaming accounts. You can find full instructions right here.
Premier Club
If you're part of the Premier Club, you can look forward to a new monthly drop on January 1st! This time, you'll get:
A Variety Pack filled with useful stuff
Two Pulse Cores
1,000 Oddments
Feeling jealous? There's still time for you to pick up a Premier Club package and get access to monthly drops like this one for the duration - and don't forget, you'll save a bundle on membership at the same time.
Here in the United Kingdom we take our January sales very seriously, so of course we're bringing the thrill of finding those elusive savings to Solomon's General Store!
There are discounts on all kinds of cosmetics, pets, packs and animations - including Rory the Reindeer, the Pegasus Teleport and the Assassin Pack.
The sale goes live on January 1st - but don't worry, we'll remind you closer to the time.
Patch Notes
Hmm, what's this under the tree? Oh! It's a big ol' pile of Patch Notes, and they're addressed to all of you! Go on, have a read...
Ninja Strike Notes
Diango and Costume Room
Using the Search function in the Bank will now also display any results from Diango's storage, as long as the items in question can be withdrawn to the Backpack.
Fixed some inconsistent tooltip styling between Bank and Diango items.
Increased the size of icons in Diango's storage on mobile.
Fixed a live bug where Diango's interface would sometimes prevent players from seeing all search results.
Moved Diango's Search Bar to the top of the interface on mobile for ease of use.
Replaced the word 'Inventory' with 'Backpack' in Diango's messaging.
The 'Cancel Search' button is no longer present on Diango's Search Bar when there is no active search.
Improved messaging when trying to withdraw items from Diango that are already owned and stored elsewhere.
A new keybind has been added to activate Search from within Diango's interface:
In English and German, the key is 'S'
In French, the key is 'R'
In Portuguese, the key is 'B'
A new right-click/long press option has been added to the item slots in the Costume Room interface, which allows you to deposit or withdraw all items in a set at the same time.
This is a hidden title with an accompanying achievement.
Those who achieve this feat will receive a global broadcast.
You are not required to complete the 'Insane Fallen Angel' Achievement, which involves obtaining all Intricate Chests from Nex: Angel of Death, to acquire the title.
General Quality of Life
Players will now receive log in and update messages whenever their Invention machines have finished processing their inputs, run out of secondary inputs, or run out of charges.
These messages can be toggled in the Login Messages or Notification Messages option menus.
Auto Disassembler machines will now display the correct processing time for items disassembled in batches, such as ammunition.
The charge used to process such items will now be correctly calculated and consumed.
The Mechanised Siphon interface has been updated to have more space and better readability.
The 'Add/Remove all' right-click/long press options are now their own buttons.
Players can now select an input box to enter how many of each Siphon they'd like to store.
Replaced the word 'Inventory' with 'Backpack' in various messaging.
Reduced message spam when adding or removing Siphons.
The Fishing Hub now also has these options on the Bank boat and rowboat, as well as the magical nets.
The NPC who combines your jellyfish at the Deep Sea Fishing Hub has been given a name, a backstory, and a minimap icon. It's still gross, though.
Raksha
Improvements
Decreased Raksha’s base damage values for attacks that scale with shadow energy.
To compensate, we've changed Raksha’s shadow infused power buff, which now scales from 0.5% to 1% per shadow energy, resulting in 100% increased damage at 100% energy, up from 50%.
The maximum damage remains unchanged; this simply means that the minimum damage is now less punishing.
Decreased Raksha’s rockfall damage.energy, resulting in 100% increased damage at 100% energy, up from 50%.
Fixes
Raksha's tail chain no longer blocks player movement.
Fixed an issue where a black screen appeared if the player died while transitioning to Phase 4 of a Raksha encounter.
Raksha will no longer get stuck in an animation cycle if you die with Immortality active during the shadow bombard attack cycle.
Mutated barge bleeds are no longer incorrectly halved after the first hit.
Fixed an issue that caused players to get stuck under Raksha both during and after the final phase of the encounter.
Increased the base hit chance (affinity) from 45 to 55 when using Melee against Raksha.
Raksha will no longer override his Melee attack animation with a walk animation if the player moves out of Melee range.
Raksha will no longer change target randomly in duo mode, and will instead focus one target until provoked.
Yak Track Improvements
We're always paying close attention to your feedback to determine how we can make our content better, and Yak Track is no exception! Here's a few of the changes and fixes we've made this time:
Task Scaling Adjustments
Agility tasks will now allow players to complete any Agility course they meet the level requirement to use, instead of being scaled to the player's level.
Similarly, Dungeoneering tasks now allow you to complete any floor you have the level requirement for.
The quantity of items required for Herblore and Crafting tasks no longer scale based on your level - all players must now carry out the same number of actions.
Quantities required for Herblore tasks have been significantly reduced, bringing down the cost of completing them.
Summoning tasks are now less restrictive and allow you to create a wider range of pouches.
Gain XP Tasks
Construction tasks have been replaced with a 'Gain Construction XP' task, allowing players to progress as they choose.
Archaeology restoration tasks have been replaced with a generic 'Gain Archaeology XP' task.
Smithing tasks have been replaced by a 'Gain Smithing XP' task, allowing players to smith efficiently while making progress.
New Tasks
Present Hunt (This Track Only)
A new kind of task where you're asked to track down presents all over Gielinor using a set of Magical Jingle Bells.
Earn Marks of War
A new type of combat task that'll see you killing bosses and collecting Marks of War.
Miscellaneous Task Improvements
Batch Overload recipes now advance Herblore tasks by 5 instead of 1 - because you're making 5 potions!
There is a known issue with the Snuffles pet unlock that will cause his animation to appear deformed. We're working on a fix that requires an engine update, currently targeted for January. We'll share more news as soon as we can.
Players can once again choose the colour of their beards and hairstyles in the Appearance interface.
Community
We're feeling particularly merry in the Community Tab this week, with a Festive Bumper Stream, an epic LootScape weekend event, and more goodies than we can possibly fit in our stockings - so here they are in newspost form, instead.
Livestreams

LootScape Weekend Event
It's a LootScape extravaganza this weekend as content creators from all over the stratosphere join forces to bring you three whole days of streaming fun!
This'll be your last chance to join a LootScape stream for some time, as we're working with Twitch to improve LootScape in the new year.
From Friday 18th through to Sunday 20th, you'll be able to claim loot from the following streams. You'll get one piece of loot for every stream you watch - so be sure to tune in as often as you can!
Yikes! We're having a nightmare before Christmas thanks to Nina_Ray and this terrifying piece of artwork, titled 'Monster of Draynor Village'. Brr... it'll take more than a few eggnogs to get over this one. Keep up the good work!
RuneScape Reads
In our reading corner this week we're really into Spirited Away, a fanfic where you choose the ending! Chaos_Elemental and fennfics have really outdone themselves with this one! We'd love to tell you how great the endings are - but we keep getting bested in a highly inadvisable duel. Still worth a read!
Thanks to everyone who took part in the in-game cosplay competition we launched two weeks ago - and thanks to the mysterious 'Mage Simpson' who inspired us to make it TV and movie themed!
There's been some truly fantastic entries, but here are some of our favourites: can you name the characters they're dressed as?
The holiday season isn't always easy - and this year, we know that for some of us it will be tougher than ever. If you need some help, or just someone to chat to, why not reach out to the SupportScape community?
Founded in 2019, SupportScape is a Discord server dedicated to mental health support for 'Scapers everywhere. They offer support, advice, and a friendly face to those who need it. There's even a channel specifically for venting.
Whether you've got general worries or are struggling with more complex problems, SupportScape can be there for you. Their volunteers are available 24/7 - and they're here to help.
We love when a community pulls together for an event, and we're thrilled to see Clan Quest's Advent Calendar. Each day there's new fun titbits and activities to be unlocked - and what's more, it's for a good cause! They're raising money for Direct Relief, an international charity that helps people in all kinds of situations.
You know what, since it's the holidays, we'll show off two Pink Skirts events this week!
First up, we've got free-to-play Fist of Guthix... Christmas Edition! Join Doctor Brian on World 81 this Sunday December 20th from 18:00 - 19:00 Game Time to join in the festivities.
Alternatively, Doctor Brian's also leading the charge in Happy New Year Barrows, for the first Bossing Sunday of the new year. Join the fun in World 10 at the Barrows Graveyard on Sunday, January 3rd from 18:00 - 19:00 Game Time.
As always, you can see the full Pink Skirts calendar right here on their website - and don't forget, their 12 Days of Christmas event is still ongoing!

TWIR - Raksha
Next week's update is absolutely massive - but there's one feature so colossal that it just didn't fit. Find out more about that in the Game News tab, peruse the Patch Notes for some funky fixes and changes, or slide on over to the Community tab to find out how you can peel back the wrapping on next week's holiday update.
Right, grab your best gear - we're going in!
Game News
The star of this week's show is Raksha, the Shadow Colossus of Orthen. He's a big mean monster absolutely oozing with shadow anima - so to help you prepare, here's everything you need to know.
New Boss: Raksha, the Shadow Colossus of Orthen
You already know some of the history of Orthen. The creation of the varanusaurs, the downfall of the dragonkin race, the secret of shadow anima... now it's time to put it all together, and awaken the ancient terror lurking deep in the ruins.
Adventurers who reckon they're able to contain Raksha's immense power will find themselves rolling in rewards, but beware - our latest solo and duo boss sits somewhere between Araxxor and Telos in terms of difficulty, so you'll need to come prepared.
Getting Started
How to Start
Speak to Laniakea in the ruins to the south-east to set out on a miniquest that'll lead you right to Raksha's lair.
Requirements
Access to Anachronia
RuneScape membership
We also recommend a Combat level of 120, and at least tier 80 gear
Rewards
If you're tough enough to take on the shadow colossus and survive, you'll find numerous rewards waiting for you - including tier 80 boots for all combat styles and a mini Raksha to call your own.
Raksha also has the chance to drop three abilities, two of which are upgrades to existing actions.
Greater Chain
Greater Chain is an upgrade for the Chain ability. It'll hit the primary target and two secondary targets within a six square radius for 20-100% ability damage. Plus, 50% of the next Magic hit against the primary target within six seconds will also be dealt to both secondary targets.
One last thing - Greater Chain also stacks with the Caroming perk, so if you're a skilled Inventor you'll basically be an unstoppable killing machine. Enjoy!
Greater Ricochet
Greater Ricochet is an upgrade for the Ricochet ability. Just like Greater Chain, it'll hit your primary target and two nearby secondary targets for 20-100% ability damage, and it stacks with the Caroming perk.
Here's the big difference: for each secondary target the ability doesn't find, your primary target will take an additional hit for 10-50% ability damage. So if you're taking on a tough beastie on its lonesome, this is the ability you'll want to bring along.
Divert
Divert is a brand-new ability that requires 48 Defence and an equipped shield to use. When active, the next attack dealt to you within six seconds will convert the damage you would have taken to adrenaline, letting you wind up your next move that much faster.
Divert has a 30 second cooldown which it shares with Resonance.
Even if you don't luck out right away, Raksha has loads of great basic drops - so he's well worth taking on, if you've got the skill.
Title Diversity
Titles that had a unique option based on your character's gender can now be used regardless of which character model you're currently using.
To change your title to one of these new, exciting options, head to the Title screen under the Customisations interface.

Awards season has officially started and it all kicks off with the Steam Awards 2020, voted for by you!
When we looked at the categories this year, there were so many we felt RuneScape could apply for, but one stood out in particular - Sit Back And Relax. This category is all about being the ultimate chill out game, one that you fire up to unwind and detach after a long day.
Throughout 2020, we’ve heard time and again that RuneScape has for so many of you been an escape and release from a year filled with tough challenges (to say the least). Whether you've been running RuneScape as a second-screen experience, skilling and chilling with friends on The Beach, or delving into Archaeological dig sites surrounded by members of the community, we hope that's been the case for you too.
If RuneScape has been your place to chill in 2020 and you want to drop us a vote, you can do so with a simple click of the button above!
Thank you for all your support in 2020... and thanks for your vote!

TWIR: Ninja Strike 15
Game News
This week's update is inspired by something the RuneScape community has been concerned about for some time - Combat Tooltips!
Read on to learn more…
Ninja Strike 15: Combat Tooltips
Hey, remember the Ninja PAG? That daring group of players who helped us out a few months back? Well, while they didn't request this week's update, the Ninjas were so inspired by their comments and their commitment to tackling in-game gribblies that they decided to go ahead and do it anyway!
What is this delectable update, you ask? It's Combat Tooltips! Read on to learn more...
Combat Tooltips
The Ninjas have really hit the books these last few weeks (our local library is pretty mad about it, actually) in order to update every single Combat Ability Tooltip in the game. Whether you're attacking, defending, or buffing, you'll find that the information provided in tooltips is clearer and more readable than ever.
How'd they do it? By cutting down the information provided into precise, bullet pointed chunks, and ensuring that terminology is consistent across every tooltip. For example, 'weapon damage' and 'activate spell damage' is now always referred to as 'ability damage'. You'll also notice that key words and terms have been highlighted so you can spot them at a glance. No more agonising over cryptic messages in the heat of battle!
In addition, all Combat abilities now have an icon which denotes whether the ability is single-target, multi-target, self-target, or area of effect.
Lastly, the existing timer icon has been updated. Snazzy!
Combat Quality of Life
In addition, the Ninjas have made a few Quality of Life changes under the general Combat umbrella. Here's a selection:
The Asylum Surgeon's Ring's cooldown now appears on the Debuff Bar.
The 'Relentless' Invention perk's cooldown now also appears on the Debuff Bar.
A new Primal Extract recipe has been added which allows you to turn Enhanced Replenishment Potions into Adrenaline Renewal Potions.
God Books, Illuminated God Books, and Erethdor's Grimoire now toggle 'off' upon death while you have a Ring of Death equipped.
But that's not all! Be sure to have a peek at the Patch Notes tab for all the other details of this week's Ninja Strike.
Essence of Finality Recolours
The Essence of Finality amulet and its ornate counterpart can now be dyed seven new colours using simple dyes, opening up a world of possibilities for presets, keybinds and Inventory management.
Solomon’s General Store: Black Friday Discounts!
From November 27th to December 4th, the Solomon’s General Store is hosting a Black Friday Sale!
You can get discounts on all kinds of cosmetics, pets, hairstyles and animations – including the Dwarven Warsuit Pack, the Privateer Pack, and the Vorago Shard.
So go grab yourself a deal!
Merch Store: Black Friday Discounts!
Is it ‘officially winter’ yet? No? Well no matter, you can still treat yourself to a few RuneScapey goodies – and there’s no better time to do so, ‘cause it’s Black Friday!
You’ll want to keep an eye out for a restock on some of our more popular designs, including the Spirit Shield Pin Set and the Protection Prayer Pins – which now feature a godlike glow-in-the-dark effect.
Plus, we’ve got two awesome deals: spend over £30 (that’s $50 for those of you who do not deal in the Queen’s very own sterling) and you’ll get a free special edition Black Friday variant of the Armadyl Godsword Keyring, while stocks last. Spend over £80 (or $100) and you’ll also get tracked shipping free. Dang!
So whether you’re sneaking in some early Christmas shopping or just treating yourself, head on over to the Merch Store and see what bargains you could grab!
Golden Gnome Awards: The Winners, Revealed!
Did you miss our all-singing, all-dancing, all-digital awards ceremony last Friday? No worries! We've got you covered with a big list of all the winners.
Thank you to everyone who nominated and voted for their favourite creators - and congratulations to all our winners!
Patch Notes
In this week's Patch Notes you'll get to swot up on everything the Ninjas have been doing this week, along with a few extra changes and fixes that snuck into the update.
Ninja Strike 15: Combat Tooltips
Combat Tooltips
All combat abilities have been rewritten for clarity and readability, and all of them now follow a bullet pointed template including the following information (where applicable):
Flavour text which describes the ability and mentions whether it has a bleed or burn effect.
The primary damage range of the ability, including minimum and maximum damage.
Secondary or conditional damage figures.
Whether the ability is channelled or inflicts damage over time.
Whether the ability behaves differently in PvP situations.
Made various consistency changes.
The terms 'weapon damage' and 'activate spell damage' are now consistently referred to as 'ability damage'.
Key words such as effects and values are highlighted in white text.
Ability durations are now shown in exact seconds to account for game ticks.
All combat abilities now have an icon showing whether they are single-target, multi-target, self-target or area of effect.
The existing timer icon has been updated.
The above changes do not yet affect specific weapons' special attacks, or Essence of Finality ability descriptions.
Combat Quality of Life
The Asylum Surgeon's Ring's cooldown now appears on the Debuff Bar.
The 'Relentless' Invention perk's cooldown now also appears on the Debuff Bar.
A new Primal Extract recipe has been added which allows you to turn Enhanced Replenishment Potions into Adrenaline Renewal Potions.
This recipe is similar to the existing Adrenaline Renewal Potion but replaces the Super Adrenaline Potion with an Enhanced Replenishment Potion.
Fixed various inconsistencies between the Herblore Skill Guide and the Make-x interface regarding the Adrenaline Renewal Potion.
God Books, Illuminated God Books, and Erethdor's Grimoire now toggle 'off' upon death while you have a Ring of Death equipped. This behaviour is in-line with scrimshaws and intended to prevent charges from being wasted while preparing for combat.
Special attacks that require no target can now be activated using the Constitution special attack ability from both the Ability Book and the Action Bar.
The Zaros Godsword and the Eldritch Crossbow have been added to the list of weapons that can be activated without a target. The full list is as follows:
Staff of Light
Staff of Darkness
Dragon Battleaxe
Zaros Godsword
Eldritch Crossbow
Other
Improvements
Hide and Seek penguins have been updated with their Christmas models, which will appear in-game from December 2nd.
Stackable items can now be crafted even if there's no empty spaces in your Backpack.
The Essence of Finality amulets can now be dyed different colours.
The skill prerequisite for the 'Ever So Clever' Achievement has been reduced to 17 Farming and 20 Construction, with a note that 81 Farming and 40 Construction are not required if trading rather than breeding, Trevor.
Fixes
The pop-up notification indicating lower damage when equipping the Tirannwn Quiver now appears correctly and will not appear again for five minutes.
The large dragonkin statue north of the Anachronia Base Camp now counts towards the 'Stone Cold Observers' Achievement.
Iron accounts are no longer able to receive the medium protean box from Premier Club.
Fixed an issue where Egil could be spawned multiple times without being removed.
A tile along the Falador Wall will no longer force players to walk away from it.
Players will no longer be able to walk through the Mining and Smithing noticeboard near the Artisans' Workshop.
You can now enter the Mage Training Arena from the basement with a pet or familiar that you have already summoned.
When completing a contract for Father Aerek using all mahogany planks, you will now receive 5 Contract Credits, as intended.
Fixed a typo in the Construction Contracts UI that only became visible after completing a contract.

10th Annual Golden Gnome Awards: The Winners are Revealed!
You voted, we counted, and the winners of the 10th Annual Golden Gnome Awards have been revealed! But don't fret if you missed our Award Ceremony livestream - we've got a big list of all the winners right here.
But first, let's take a moment to thank everyone in the RuneScape and Old School RuneScape communities for making our games such a wonderful place to be. This year has been difficult, but here at the Golden Gnome Awards we're celebrating all our community members who gave their time and energy to make it that little bit easier, whether they be musicians, artists, video creators, streamers - or just a player with a lot of community spirit.
We'd also like to thank everyone for participating in this historic Golden Gnomes Award. You voted, you viewed, and you talked up a storm - so without further ado, let's see the winners!
Video Awards
These talented folks turned YouTube into TheirTube and filmed their way to a fabulous prize! Congratulations to the following video creators:
Whether they're new to the scene or a veteran twitcher, these streamers really stood out from the crowd. A big congratulations to:
Art Awards
Here at Jagex we love seeing fan creations, and art is no exception - but these artists and their work really stood out from the crowd. Congratulations to the following:
Cosplay Awards
Loads of you submitted images of yourselves in your fabulous costumes, wielding mighty props of all stripes, but the following two cosplayers really threaded the needle:
Community Champion
This year's Community Champion award goes to the RS and OSRS Wiki!
The Wiki team and their contributors go above and beyond to make the tremendous depth of our games more accessible to everyone. We'd particularly like to highlight their work with the Archaeology and Steam launches for RuneScape and Leagues II - Trailblazer for Old School RuneScape. We've been consciously aware of the Wiki's value for a while and have accordingly implemented more in-game visibility in both Old School RuneScape and RuneScape this year. Here's to many more years of sharing the knowledge, Wiki team! Much of our success is owed to you, and we love you for it x
Outstanding Community Achievement
The award for Outstanding Community Achievement goes to Faux!
This year Faux raised over $57,000 for the St Jude Children's Research Hospital - no small feat, considering it took him and his incredible viewer community just four hours!
But the biggest gesture came when Faux himself sacrificed his Hardcore Ironman account, which had over 3,400 hours of playtime. Here's what Faux had to say on the matter:
"I promise you, that there are kids out there that'd love to have 3,400 more hours in this world. Together as a community we've raised over $57,000. We've raised that much so far. I know some of you are upset that I've let my account go, but this is nothing. 3,400 hours is nothing compared to what some of these kids go through and I appreciate every single one of you that participated today, to make a difference in some kid's life today."
Faux, for your big heart and your abundance of community spirit, we're proud to offer you the first ever award for Outstanding Community Achievement. Congratulations!

TWIR: Construction Contracts & Premier Club
Welcome to This Week in RuneScape, your number one source for everything happening in the BEST MMORPG EVER (if we do say so ourselves). This week, Construction Contracts is going live, and there’s a sweet deal on membership with Premier Club. There’s also an impressive array of changes and fixes in the Patch Notes tab, and the usual shenanigans in the Community tab. Don’t take our word for it though: read on and see it for yourself!
Game News
Not to sound too full of ourselves, but we think we've nailed this week's update! From today you'll be able to play Construction Contracts, a new, less expensive way to train Construction. But that's not all - we've also got news about Premier Club, and a new deal from Prime Gaming. Hard hats on? Then let's check it out!
New Construction Training Method: Construction Contracts!
Today we're cutting the ribbon on Construction Contracts! For those of you who missed the in-depth newspostand the preview livestream, here's everything you need to know.
Normally, you'd be training your Construction inside your Player Owned House, toiling away for hours building oak larder after oak larder, without seeing a single soul except your Demon Butler. With the arrival of Construction Contracts, all that's about to change. Now, you can train Construction on the surface world, at less cost, and help some friendly NPCs out while you're at it.
Completing Contracts
To get started, you'll need at least 40 Construction, which will let you complete your contracts with standard planks. As you advance in levels, you'll be able to use more expensive materials - which will impress your clients and net you a bit more XP.
Speak to an Estate Agent to get your first Construction Contract. You'll be sent to one of 11 different buildings in four of Gielinor's most iconic towns, where you'll be asked to spruce the place up a bit according to the resident NPC's grand designs. The furniture you're asked to build will vary, so come prepared for everything!
You'll get your XP once you've finished the job, along with the satisfaction of a job well done - and a bunch of Construction Credits, which you can use to buy some useful items back at the Estate Agent.
Rewards
Here's what's on offer:
Plank Box
The Plank Box is an upgradeable storage solution that will let you carry at least 25 extra planks of each type with you at all times.
Here's how many you can carry with the upgraded versions:
Base: 25 Planks of each type
Upgrade 1: 50 Planks of each type
Upgrade 2: 100 Planks of each type
The basic Plank Box will cost you 50 Construction Credits, the first upgrade will cost 150 Credits, and the second upgrade will cost 300 Credits.
Elite Skilling Outfit: Master Construction
You can get your hands on the Elite Skilling Outfit for Construction via Dressed to Skill, our latest Treasure Hunter promo, or you can get it in-game from the Construction Contracts Reward Store. You'll be looking mighty handy either way!
There are five pieces in the set, each of which cost 500 Construction Credits. Wearing all of them will net you the following bonuses:
Option to automatically remove furniture immediately after building it
Ability to convert logs to planks on the go
Temporary +3 boost to Construction
Increased build progress for Construction Contracts
Chance to instantly finish repairs during Construction Contracts
Unlimited teleports to your house, house portals, Estate Agents, and your current Construction Contract
Achievements
There are eight new Achievements in this update, one of which is required for the Completionist Cape.
Fully upgrade your Plank Box to earn the ‘Absolute Planker' Achievement and restore your Cape. There's no Grace Period on this one, so get building!
Premier Club Membership
It's the most wonderful time of the year - Premier Club Membership is back! For those of you who are new here, Premier Club is the absolute best value deal for RuneScape membership, and, for a limited time, we've slashed prices to celebrate our upcoming 20th Anniversary! You'll secure either 3, 6, or 12 months of membership and get loads of extras, up to and including the exclusive Ceremonial Guard Armour and Ozzie pet, access to the Premium Track for all Yak Track events, extra daily Keys, the Premier Artefact, and much, much more!
Here's a taste of what you can expect from this year's packages:
*available for duration of Premier Club membership
On top of all that, you'll get access to everything the wonderful world of RuneScape has to offer - new quests, new skills, and new areas to explore! Plus, you'll get the most from our 20th Anniversary Celebration event coming up in January. What a deal!
Prime Gaming
There's a new offer from our friends at Prime Gaming. Wahey! From now until December 15th, you can claim 7 days of RuneScape Membership - just the thing if you want to try Construction for yourself!
To claim this offer, simply link your RuneScape and Prime Gaming accounts. Full details can be found here.
Patch Notes
The Ninjas might be busy exchanging blows in their dojo, but that doesn't mean we don't have loads of great changes and fixes to show you! Here's what's new this week!
Interface
Improvements
The Tune Bane Ore spell will no longer show the X icon when hovering over items in the Backpack.
The default size of the Activity Tracker has been increased, and the Paths window has been moved from left-centre to left-top, in the same position, so that they tab together nicely.
The Events tab will now only ever appear when an event is active.
The player's left arm is no longer out of place while wearing the Fenrir Body.
Unholy symbols will no longer appear to sink into the player character's chest.
Smithing tools seen on the odd-looking wall in Seers' Village Workshop no longer float when something spoiler-y happens.
The face texture of Tanner, the Crafting Guild NPC, will no longer appear to be two different colours.
The colours of bronze, iron, steel and mithril dragons will now display correctly.
Cyrisus' hair is no longer visible through his dragon medium helm.
The cup of tea which spawns on the desk in the Archaeology Guild no longer clips into it.
Other
Improvements
A cutscene has been added for Merlin's escape during King's Ransom. Interact with the vent after discussing your plans with Merlin during the quest to see it.
The description for the Fury of the Small Relic has been updated to match its functionality.
Fixes
Fixed an issue where the ‘Axe'll Grease' Achievement listed the incorrect pre-requisites. You must partially complete Blood Runs Deep to claim Balmung from Brundt the Chieftain.
During Dino Stampede, the Rex will no longer focus on the player as this could result in the gigantic beast derailing itself and never reaching the centre of Base Camp.

Year-Long Rewards Now Including Yak Track
Premier Club Gold Membership's value extends far beyond the instant rewards, with year-long benefits you'll feel every month.
Yak Track is best with Premier Club Membership. These events set you on a path of fun, varied and sometimes challenging tasks to complete to earn some fantastic rewards. And as an active Premier Club Member, you'll get access to any Yak Track Premier Pass at no extra cost. Premier Pass doubles the number of potential rewards per task and gives you to the chance to unlock a deluge of exclusive earnable cosmetics.
As a Premier Club Member, every month will also be kickstarted with a Premier drop featuring surprise items, from Umbral Chests to bonus Protean Packs, that enhance your adventures. You'll also get access to the Premier Club Vault, where you'll dive in to an exclusive one-minute monthly looting spree to gather for bonus rewards, along with an additional Treasure Hunter Key every day, a free boss instant reset every week and a whole lot more.
Great Membership Benefits
If you're not already a member, Premier Club Membership is the best way to enjoy RuneScape. It not only provides you full access to all of Runescape - with over 6x as many quests, a 3x larger game world and 11 exclusive skills - but all the instant rewards and additional benefits to get the most out of your adventures in Gielinor.
Join us for RuneScape's 20th Year!
There's plenty to look forward to as a RuneScape Member as we close out 2020 with a bang and head into an even bigger 2021. Following the release of Construction Contracts this November, December will see the introduction of a powerful new Solo Boss and heart-melting Christmas-themed quest to close out the year.
Next year, RuneScape is celebrating its 20th Anniversary. This is a huge moment for the game and the community, so you can bet we'll be celebrating in style, with a year full of events, content and surprises you won't want to miss. We'll also be welcoming a bounty of new adventurers with the launch of RuneScape Mobile on iOS and Android in 2021 too.
As we head into 2021, we'll continue to deliver monthly content drops, regular quality of life Ninja Strikes, reward-packed Yak Tracks and regular seasonal events we've established since July this year. We'll also be broadening our horizons thanks to our ever-expanding team, with an increased focus on improving infrastructure, accessibility and - ultimately - delivering big-hitting large scale updates like Elder God Wars Dungeon that we know you crave. We can't wait for 2021, and we'll hope you'll join us on the next step of this journey!
