CRASH FIX: Mountain Glenn

For those experiencing a game crash at the beginning of Chapter 3: Mountain Glenn, we think we have a possible fix for you! Please try the following steps:

1.) Open output_log.txt
Default path = C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\RWBY_GE\rwby-ge_Data

2.) You should see some lines similar to this:

  • Direct3D:
  • Version: Direct3D 11.0 [level 10.1]
  • Renderer: Intel(R) HD Graphics 3000 (ID=0x126)
  • Vendor: Intel
  • VRAM: 128 MB

3.) The "Renderer" line shows your graphics card (GPU). If your computer doesn't have a dedicated GPU (many laptops don't) OR if your computer has a dedicated GPU and it is not listed there, it means the game is using your CPU's integrated graphics processor. This is not ideal, but you should still be able to run our game (and many others).

  • If you're using integrated graphics and your machine has a dedicated GPU, continue to step 4-A
  • If you're using integrated graphics and your machine does not have a dedicated GPU, continue to step 4-B
  • If "output_log.txt" indicates you're using a dedicated GPU and you have this issue, continue to step 4-B

4-A) For some reason, the game has decided to use your computer's integrated graphics processor instead of your dedicated GPU. This could be a driver issue (make sure they're updated) or it could be a settings issue. You should be able to open a program like the "Nvidia Control Panel" or "AMD Catalyst Control Center" and fix the issue by adjusting settings there. Energy saving settings often found on laptops could also prevent the game from using the GPU.

4-B) There may be a Direct3D compatibility issue with your graphics device. You may be able to solve this by forcing the game to launch using Direct3D 9 or OpenGL instead of Direct3D 11.

  1. Right click on "RWBY: Grimm Eclipse" in your Steam game library.
  2. Click "Properties"
  3. Click "Set Launch Properties..."
  4. Enter one of the following (without quotes): "-force-d3d9" OR "-force-opengl"
  5. Click OK and launch the game.

Hopefully these steps solve your crash issue??

IF NOT - please let us know in the BUG REPORTING forum.

Thanks and good luck!

Patch #1

Hey Hunters and Huntresses! HUGE THANKS to everyone who grabbed a copy of the Early Access version!! I hope you guys are having a blast slaying Grimm in Emerald Forest and Mountain Glenn?

Since launching 3 days ago, we’ve been cranking away trying to kill all reported bugs. We are working as quickly as possible, but please remember we are a tiny team with only 1 engineer. Casey (our Lead Engineer) is a BADASS! But he’s only one man and writing beautiful code takes time.

It sounds like AUDIO is a big source of frustration so we tackled that first! PATCH #1 balances out all the sound issues and also gives you a Sound FX slider within the settings menu. We hope that makes your experience a bit more enjoyable.

Over the next few weeks and months, we plan to release several more patches that fix bugs, increase performance (framerate), and improve the overall gameplay/combat. So keep letting us know when you find bugs or have ideas for improved gameplay, etc. We may not respond to every post, but we are listening!!

We are also continuing to build NEW levels, NEW enemies, and NEW . Can’t wait to share all those juicy details in a larger update early next year. You’re gonna freak when you see Forever Falls!!

Lastly - we really, really appreciate your support and as our friends have already stated in the forum discussions - this is only the beginning. It’s EARLY ACCESS. The game remains in active development and with your help we will continue to build and improve upon it until everyone is happy. So keep the feedback coming and we’ll keep on working!

Thanks again and happy hunting! ːsteamhappyː
