RXC has been on a temporary development pause while we attend to our legacy games.
We have a back catalog of games that goes back more than 10 years (Ultra4, Rally Runner, Gigabit Offroad, etc). While it's pretty awesome that games can live that long on platforms, it means we have to go back to them every so often as platform requirements get updated. If we don't keep them in line with store policies, the app stores will remove them and they still have a decent sized player base. Not only that, but some of the games have started breaking due to operating system changes and need attention. So, that's what we've been doing for the last few months. It's been a challenge to update, in some cases, decade old code to keep the games functioning.
I'd estimate another month of work before we can put our focus back on RXC and boy are we itching to do that. I'm sure you can imagine how much more game dev experience we have since some of those old games were made. It's going to feel so nice to dig back into RXC and finish off that roadmap!
I hope, for those that are still waiting patiently for some new RXC content and features, this at least demonstrates our long term commitment to our games. Even after we moved on from those old games, we will still try our best to keep them in a playable state.
If anyone needs assistance or wishes to discuss RXC, we are still active on Discord. Feel free to send us a message if you require any assistance.
Thank you for believing in our game and for your continued support. We hope this year is a fantastic one for everybody!
RXC - work in progress
Dang! It’s already been over three months since our last post. Here is our progress on RXC.
I’ve finished up the models and skins of a few more vehicle variants. I’m excited to get these in the game and getting a base tune set for them. I’m getting closer to my personal stretch goal of total number of vehicles.
We have been working on challenges for awhile now and they are pretty close to being wrapped up. Rally, Auto Cross, and Speed gun. 10 of each type in each level for a total of 240 unique challenges on the current levels. These are a ton of fun to play with even more of a challenge than I thought they could be. They make you master the driving mechanics of pitching a car around corners and now you must learn how to use the E-brake properly to extend your trajectory.
Next step for me will be visiting the new levels again to add all the required models and finishing touches.
The current career mode is ok but not great. We call it career 0 since it is the early access version. With the full release of the game we will introduce career 1. This will include challenges to break up the content which overall will make it more enjoyable. The stretch goal here will be a story built behind it but not sure it will make the cut with our timeline.
The AI is still being worked on along with ghosts and a few other features. We have added so much to the game in the past months and it has put us behind on releasing an update. We are working to get it situated to share but it must be playable and not completely break the current systems.
Back to the grind!
May 2023 Development Update
Content: Hello there! I wanted to take a moment to share the progress we've made on RXC.
I've been diligently working on finishing up a few vehicles that I started a while back. We've got the Jinx, Hero, and Wolf, each with their own tiers of progression. These vehicles bring different driving characteristics and handling styles to the lineup. It takes some time to make them game-ready, but we're committed to delivering the best possible experience.
My approach is to blend features I love from real vehicles into these cars. It's like creating a mashup of the best elements out there. Now, adding unique liveries to each car does take some extra time, but we believe it's an important aspect. We've got a list of vehicles ahead, and I'm carefully selecting the ones that are essential to complete RXC for the 1.0 release.
Speaking of 1.0, we have some ambitious goals. Our aim is to provide 16 tracks with six variations each, including their reverse versions, totaling 192 race layouts. Some tracks are nearing completion, while others are still in the early stages to determine if they're enjoyable. Once a track passes the fun factor test, we move on to finding fitting themes and adding the necessary support objects. Tracks are a vital part of the game, as without engaging layouts, the vehicles lose their purpose. It's all about striking a balance and investing time wisely in each.
While the current player count in the online multiplayer lobbies may be lower than anticipated, it's essential to remember that our game is still a work in progress and has not received the full marketing push. This will happen just before 1.0 launch and hopefully will bring more players to the community of RXC.
We've made great progress so far, but there's still work to be done. Keep an eye out for future updates as we work to make RXC even better!
- Patrick
Features: Hey, everyone! I want to fill you in on the software development and feature implementation side of RXC. It's been quite a journey working on this project.
One of the areas I've been focused on is the challenge system, and it's almost ready to roll. These first challenges are point A to point B races against the clock, complete with leaderboards. Initially, each rally challenge will be assigned a specific vehicle, adding a bit of competition.
Now, let's talk about control remapping. It has been a bit of a challenge, to be honest. It's like playing whack-a-mole, where one issue gets fixed, but another one pops up. But fret not! Progress is being made, and I'm getting closer to resolving these control remapping quirks.
Additionally, I'm revamping the replay system. This upgrade is crucial for introducing ghosts on the leaderboards, allowing you to compete against other players' previous performances. It's a great way to bring some healthy competition and prevent cheating. Plus, it'll enable players to save their replays for later enjoyment.
In terms of the updated career mode, we're working on the design. We're planning championships with points and more varied events. We will be incorporate some challenges from the challenge mode to spice things up. Of course, there will be a bunch of new vehicles and tracks, courtesy of Patrick's hard work. Integrating all this content into the career mode requires careful planning to maximize its potential and make the career engaging.
It'll be a little while before we update the AI. We've been working on developing a new AI system, but it makes sense to wait until the new tracks are ready for AI training before we complete the rewrite of the AI. This way, we can ensure that the AI performs optimally on the all tracks and provides a challenge for players of all skill levels.
The same approach applies to the final car tuning process. We're addressing aspects such as high-speed stability, balancing cars within the same group, and tackling any funky handling characteristics some cars may have. To achieve a cohesive and balanced gameplay experience, it's best to wait until the car list is complete before diving into the retuning process. However, the future trucks and buggies have distinctive attributes, so we can proceed with the car tuning without having to wait for their completion.
By carefully planning the timing of these updates, we can streamline the development process and ensure that all components of RXC come together seamlessly. We appreciate your patience as we work diligently to create a game that exceeds expectations. Stay tuned for further updates as we continue to make progress on these aspects of the game!

Well, here we are again.
Yep, we're pushing the release date back. It's painful to do but, there are still things that we need more time to develop.
The progress in the last couple months has been great and we think a lot of that shows in the updated demo we released in late May. Feedback on the demo has been very positive and we're happy that people are enjoying it.
Since we don't have a firm release date in sight yet, we decided to move the release date to the end of the year even though we are fairly confident it will release sooner than that. Thanks for sticking it out with us and for the feedback and kind words.
As always, join our Discord server for more up to date info, to give feedback, or just to say hey!

Where are we at?
For anyone that buys games in Early Access, you’ve probably had the disappointment of feeling like you’re playing a tech demo rather than a full game. We would rather release something that is a complete game that can be added to and improved during the Early Access period. Content-wise, we have everything we need to put together a legit release. We just need a bit more time to polish and test. We are loving the direction of the game and are excited to get it finished. Please bear with us as we push for a higher standard.
We had to make adjustments to the career mode due to a lack of feeling of progression. This is adding time to development to make it feel right. On the plus side, this has caused the garage to expand. Instead of standalone cars, each car will now have multiple versions that go from street cars with roll cages to dirt-eating rally beasts. While the career available during Early Access won’t be as in-depth as the career in the final release, it will give players a ton to do and give an idea of the direction we’re aiming.
In an effort to make the game more future-proofed, we upgraded the engine and renderer. While this has added a significant amount of development time to creating new shaders and effects, the visual fidelity has taken a step up while also increasing the performance and efficiency of the game.
Our goal is to bring a unique experience to the familiar top-down racing game format. We hope you’ll enjoy it!.
PS We’ll have an invite-only beta available on Steam prior to release for anyone interested in helping the direction of the game. Keep an eye on the Discord Channel for updates.
