This update adds a new obtainable ship model. Note that the models of the King's Galleon and the Battlemaster's Voyager ships have been changed to this new model. If you already have one of these ships, you'll notice your decorations will not match up with the new model. If you inspect the ship item in your inventory, there is an option to quickly retrieve all of your placed decorations on that ship.
We have also added some new dungeons and a quest line originating from an inhabitant of the recently introduced marshland islands. Find him within the mist and discover what kind of deep trouble he has gotten himself into.

A Look At The Next Update
Today we wanted to give you a preview of our next content update, which we plan on pushing out within the next week. This update will also hit the beta branch first very soon so if you want to help us test and find bugs, you can opt into the beta branch.
Here's a look at what's coming.
New Ship Type
A lot of you have been asking for more ships and so this in this update we are including a new larger ship type for you to craft and discover. This update will include three color variations of the new ship with different rarities and speed. The new vessel is much bigger than the current Wave Skipper and includes a large interior deck for you to decorate and store your treasure. We have replaced some placeholder ships with the model, so if one of your ships looks different in the next update, you'll know why. We've included a pop up tutorial to show you how to easily gather all your decorations so you can set up your new ship as seamlessly as possible.
Of course there are more ships to come but we wanted to go ahead and get at least one new type out for you in this update.
New Questline
This update will also feature a brand new questline featuring a unique skeleton character named "Mr. Bones" and will eventually take you to Davy Jones Locker, a scary and atmospheric dungeon with a unique boss fight and loot. You may even be able to get a hook for a weapon. This dungeon will also be repeatable so you can farm for better gear as you level up.
New Points of Interest
In addition to the new areas featured as part of the questline, we've also added more points of interest to the marshland island type introduced in the last update. This means more caves and ruins for you to discover, as well as some new puzzles.
Balancing Changes, Quest Changes, and Bug Fixes
This patch will also feature a slew of balancing changes and bug fixes. We are constantly monitoring your feedback and adjusting spawn chances, recipe costs, and other things that affect the balance and progression of the game. In this update we've also made it to where you can turn in some side quests at a mailbox, instead of being required to go back to the quest giver. Previously you could only turn in quests found at a commission board to mailboxes. We've now extended this to most quests you get from lone NPCs found in the world. Note this does not apply to guild quests or longer questlines but it should prevent you from having to backtrack a long way for single delivery type quests.
Future Plans
After this update our plan is start working on additional map features. We know you really want the ability to mark more information on your maps and so that's top priority for us. As soon as this update is live we'll be switching gears to focus on adding new map features.
Thanks for reading and expect this update out soon!
New Island Type - Marshland Islands
What's new
In this update, you can find a new island type - the marshlands island. But stay away if you are squeamish of spiders. Along with the visually different island and new enemy type, you can also find new caves and other points of interests, new resources, and new loot.
Along with additional content are some fixes and improvements. Most notably, if you leave loot on an enemy when you exit an area or quit the game, it will be there when you return in the form of a bag on the ground. This resolves the particularly annoying issue of missing out on loot if you died before you were able to loot a freshly slain enemy.
As with any of our updates that change islands, be aware that the island that you were last on may be changed or gone when you return. Our particular apologies that some who last left the game in a very peaceful meadow or cozy coastal nook may find themselves surprised upon returning to a spider-infested marsh.

Holding shift while transferring stacks of items to and from ship storage will transfer the whole stack.
Bug Fixes and some Quality Of Life Improvements
This patch contains some fixes, balance adjustments, and quality of life improvements.
One large focus of this update was to change to the way the game saves data. The purpose of this was to try to address an issue where the game would sometimes not read the save file properly. Additionally, it reduces the size of the save files and makes the save system a little more robust for future updates. If you notice anything about your save did not load properly after this update, please let us know on the Steam forums, or through an in-game bug report.
Some islands have changed shape slightly. Large islands have become a little more mountainous for instance. If you were last standing on an island that changed, you may re-appear under the island geometry when you return.
If this happens to you, don't worry. You can easily swim out from under the island or use the teleport feature from the ESC menu.
A similar thing can happen if you saved in a cave located on an island that has changed shape. When you exit the cave, the entrance to the cave may no longer be where it was before, and you may exit below the terrain.
Changes
Updated the way the game saves data. This reduces the size of save files, and potentially addresses an issue where the game temporarily fails to read save files.
Crafting stations on your ship now take into account items in your ship storage. Crafting stations that are not on your ship will not.
You can now inspect some things in the world to glean more information about the lore and history surrounding it. Higher skill levels in different skills will unlock additional information you can learn about these objects.
Small pirate islands now have slightly different foliage colors from natural islands to differentiate them better.
Large natural islands are now more mountainous.
Added remove all decorations option when inspection ship items. This will remove all objects that you have placed on that ship and put them back in your inventory.
The reticle is now hidden when in ship storage and count selection.
You can now split stacks when transferring items to and from your ship storage.
Added buttons to count selection interface.
Fixed stackable items indicating they are new when some of the stack is transferred to another container.
Fixed there not being enough inventory pages to display all of your items if you had more than 9 pages worth in both normal inventory and ship storage interface.
Added an option to change the appearance of the reticle.
Slightly reduced the volume of the lavaboots logo splash screen.
Combat skills such as Slashing, Bludgeoning, etc. now gain more xp when you fight higher level enemies.
Fixed heals being treated as critical hits.
Fixed skill levels not capping at level 50.
Removed heavy armor skill for now since it is not being used, and renamed light armor skill to "Armor".
If an island that you marked on your map previously is no longer valid (due to world changes with updates), the icon will automatically be removed.
Fixed bug where things would not respawn properly.
Merchant inventories will now refresh after an hour.
Disabled collision with fox corpses.
Fixed some typos.
Fixed merchant coin interface not scaling right with different resolutions.
Made it easier to pick up items on top of dressers.
A cure poison potion can now be found and crafted.
Increased the drop rate of staves.
Cheese and potatoes no longer spoil as quickly.
Lowered the recipe requirements for some basic weapon recipes.
Increased the chance for rare crafting mats to drop at higher levels.
Grizzly bears can now spawn on natural islands.
Added a destroy button when inspecting items.
Adjusted lockpick recipe requirements.
You can now find job boards at lone merchants and guild headquarters.
Fixed an issue with hammer weapons not awarding bludgeoning experience.
Increased experience gained for blacksmithing, cooking, woodworking, and tailoring.

A Look At The Marshlands Update
Ahoy mateys!
Today I wanted to give you a preview of what's to come in the next patch we are calling The Marshland Update. We expect this update to be out within the next few weeks and can't wait for you to try out the new content.
Also, today we've pushed a new update to the beta branch which includes some save changes to hopefully address issues with the game rarely not loading a save, balancing changes, and visual changes to some islands to make them more distinct from one another. That update will be out soon but if you want to test it or read the patch notes, you can do so here.
Here's a look at what's coming in The Marshlands Update.
Brand New Island: The Marshlands
In our next update we're introducing a new island complete with new atmosphere, points of interest, loot, and enemies. Just in time for Halloween, you'll be able to occasionally come across a foggy island out at sea called The Marshlands. This island has low visibility and is crawling with spiders and skeletons. Rumor also has it a rare enemy known as The Spider Queen can be found wandering these islands.
With this island type will also come new dungeons, quest, loot, and resources. If you've played Salt 1, you'll be happy to see the return of the Moonrock Ore Vein out in the wild. This rare ore glows under the moonlight and provides moonrock as a resource. We've added new recipes in this update for weapons and other items that can be crafted with moonrock.
New island Visuals
Another new change we have made is adjusted the visuals of some islands already in the game. We've changed the color palette and terrain formation of pirate islands to make them a bit different from natural islands. We've also made Seaport islands more open and flat, and large islands are now much more mountainous with high peaks and valleys.
In addition to the changes mentioned above, we are also planning to add a new pirate ship for you to obtain. This will have different visuals than the current Waveskipper and give you a bit more room for all your decorations.
We'll have more info soon on when you expect this update to be out. Thanks for reading!
Bug Fixes, Balance, and More

As you play, please keep the feedback coming as it helps us to find issues, and prioritize what we need to work on for upcoming updates.
This update primarily focuses on bug fixes and balancing tweaks, with some additional content sprinkled in. As we get early bugs squashed, we will start to be able to focus more effort on adding missing content such as more map features, talents, and ship models.
