Saurian

Patch 1.7.2544

Hey everyone,

After a wrestling with performance issues reported from the last attempt at releasing this patch, we believe we’ve largely solved the root issue and are ready to re-release it. In addition to the performance fix, we have also rebalanced Thescelosaurus in accordance with community feedback. We deeply appreciate your patience and support.

*Please note that RPR attack animations may not work correctly unless you restore your control settings to default before re-mapping them. Sorry for the inconvenience!*

---

We’re finally ready to release the fluid ontogeny system into the wild! While the bulk of our effort has focused on this system (and fixing the resulting issues), we have a few more features for you as well. Please note that initially the loading screen may not pop up immediately when starting a game, though this is not game-breaking and should only happen once per session. We strongly recommend starting a new save, as previous saves may be incompatible with this update.

As always, please send us any bug reports or suggestions on either our Steam discussions page or our Discord . Thank you, and enjoy!

FIXED:

  • Palaeosaniwa threaten behavior should occur more regularly.
  • Player should have a harder time getting stuck underneath trees when starting to climb.
  • Adult Dakotaraptor should no longer be able to swallow hatchlings whole.
  • Key bindings should no longer revert to default when exiting game.
  • Player should no longer lose control when restarting after dying while in/immediately after RPR
  • Palaeosaniwa now generate scent nodes.
  • AI should now have less difficulty turning while swimming.
  • Shadows, cloud, and other video settings should now work correctly for all users.
  • Damage is now properly applied during RPR.
  • Failing RPR no longer causes stamina loss.
  • Simple cloud settings no longer result in blindingly bright sky.
  • AI raptors engaging in RPR should now attack more consistently.

CHANGED:

  • Spawn rates for Triceratops and T. rex increased
  • Stats relating to health and attack power tweaked for all animals
  • Gliding ability now begins at an earlier age and increases/decreases in effectiveness over time
  • If a player glides from a tree, they can now land on the trunk of another and continue climbing.
  • Animals in groups should be willing to keep larger distances from one another
  • Minimum height for mounting trees increased
  • Spawn regions recalculated. AI should no longer spawn on very steep slopes.
  • Hatchling threaten, eat, sleep, and other animations are now the same as the other ontogenetic stages.
  • Herbivore AI should be less aggressive.

ADDED:

  • Gradual ontogeny (continuous growth visualization and data modification)
  • Gradual change to jump height, glide effectiveness, and movement speed according to morph value
  • Thescelosaurus AI
  • Basilemys AI
  • Bone Butte entry in encyclopedia

Patch Reversion Announcement and Apology

Hello everyone,

Due to a high volume of reports saying that the game's performance has significantly been hurt by the most recent patch, we are reverting Saurian's main branch to the previous stable build. This is not an easy decision for us, nor one that we take lightly, but we need a little more time to figure out what the source of the performance drop is. It has been heartbreaking to see our fans unable to play Saurian when they were previously able to - and to see justifiably negative reviews by people who assume that this is normal and intentional. We knew that we already had lot of optimization work to do, but the performance described by some of you, considering your hardware, is completely unacceptable on our part.

We offer our deepest apologies and take full responsibility for this - we (both developers and QA) did not encounter these problems while testing, and would not have released the patch had we known they were present. We have created a new public testing branch where you can continue to play with the current patch, and potentially help us continue to search for the source of these problems. When the public has confirmed that the problems have been fixed, we will return it to the main branch. Please note that saves created with the new patch will be incompatible with the old one we are reverting to.

For those of you who felt disappointed, we hear your concerns and want to work to regain your faith. We are a very small team with limited resources, but we will still always work our hardest to deliver the highest-quality product that we can. In the future we will be utilizing the public testing branch more extensively to avoid a situation like this ever occurring again. We will also be offering more transparency on our plans for further optimizations soon.
Thank you for your understanding and support.
