Here’s What’s Happening

Explorers,

Check out our latest Weekly Focus blog!

This will be a regular series where we’ll take a look at what the team is focusing their attention on this week, as well as their response to some of the top community feedback and suggestions we’ve received. You can also get a peek at the content and blogs planned for this week.

Developer Focus

Here, we’ll talk about some of the top topics that the team is working on this week. This isn’t their only focus - we’ll be highlighting only the main topics they’re focused on:

  • July 28th Hotfix: There will be a hotfix rolling out this Wednesday to address some bug fixes. Keep an eye out for the full Hotfix Notes, coming later this week.
  • Horde Mode: Last week we introduced our PvE Horde Mode. We appreciate all the feedback that we’ve received around it so far and we’re already working on additional content to be added to that mode.
  • R.A.S.P. Rocket: In Horde Mode, we introduced a new way to leave the planet: the R.A.S.P Rocket. We’re already thinking on how else we can use the R.A.S.P. in Expedition Mode...
  • Matchmaking Improvement: We’re continuing to work on building a matchmaking system that allows us to quickly and easily tune different variables. We’re getting close to releasing the first version of this matchmaker, which includes preferentially matching for new players against other new players.

Top Community Feedback

We’re on this Scavengers journey with you, and we want to improve and refine the game with the feedback and suggestions from our community. Although the team is constantly going through your feedback and incorporating them into our updates and hotfixes, we haven’t had a really good way to let you know what might be coming in the medium to long term.

So, every week, we'll share our thoughts on some of the top community feedback topics that we’ve been seeing on our platforms. We may work on some of these for a future update; some of these could be part of a long-term plan and might not have a date for when they’ll arrive in Scavengers. Others, we may be investigating or considering adding, but can’t promise that you’ll see them in the game. Finally, for some, we want to continue hearing your feedback and thoughts on them, to ensure we’re considering the right way to approach it. Let’s break them down:

Future Update:
For these, we’re planning to add them to Scavengers at some point, but don’t have a confirmed release date yet. They are part of our mid to long-term plans, so it could be months before they are available in-game.

  • Earning Battle Pass Season Points: Currently, the only way to earn SP is to complete Challenges. In the future, we plan to include other ways to earn Season Points, including a Season Points (SP) boost event this weekend!
  • Horde Mode Improvements: We mentioned it above as part of this week’s focus, but we’re looking at how to improve Horde Mode. We’ve heard your feedback and would love to know how else we can improve this PvE mode. Keep sharing your ideas and suggestions with us!
  • Already Completed Challenges: Currently, some players are receiving Challenges that they can’t complete - either because they’ve already finished all the requirements for it (e.g. Research Uncommon Item), or because their level is too low (e.g. Craft Epic Signature Weapon). We plan to fix this logic in the future so that players don’t get stuck with a Challenge that isn’t feasible.

Investigating:
We’re looking into these topics, to ensure that they are currently working as intended.

  • Single Team Hurry Up: The Dropship leaving early is a great time-saver after a lobby wipe, but sometimes it happens a little too quickly. We’re investigating how we can balance this better.

Blogs & Events

Here’s where we’ll keep you updated on what blog content you might see!

Events:
We’ll be performing a Hotfix in the middle of this week to address some bug fixes.

The Mutator GunFu and Mutator Arsenal events will be back this Tuesday and Thursday, respectively. Keep an eye out this weekend for a special SP event, to help you progress through your Battle Pass faster!

Blogs:
Our next Community Roundup will be going live at the end of the week, with some of our favorite content created by you.

We’re committed to creating Scavengers with our amazing players. Please share your feedback and suggestions and let us know your thoughts on our focus topics.

Going forward, we’ll also be highlighting our events in our Weekly Focus blog series, so you will be prepared for what’s coming up.

MUTATOR GUNFU EVENT

During the Mutator: GunFu event, you will receive two random weapons when you respawn! This little twist means that the weapons you have when you die won’t be the same weapons you have after being resurrected. Fortune favors the brave Explorer, so seize this chance and try out something new!

We’ll be running this event twice on Tuesday, July 27th:
9:30 AM - 11:30 AM PT / 5:30 PM - 7:30 PM BST
3:30 PM - 5:30 PM PT / 11:30 PM - July 28th 1:30 AM BST

MUTATOR ARSENAL EVENT

The Mutator: Arsenal event returns!

With every chest containing an Uncommon or higher rarity weapon, you could find what you want to complete your dream loadout! You can even find higher tier Signature Weapons when you open up random chests throughout Cascade Springs - including when you first spawn.

We’ll be running this event twice on Thursday, July 29th:

  • 9:30 AM - 11:30 AM PT / 5:30 PM - 7:30 PM BST
  • 3:30 PM - 5:30 PM PT / 11:30 PM - July 30th 1:30 AM BST

DOUBLE SEASON POINTS EVENT

Our FREE Battle Pass is here and we want to give you a bit of a boost this weekend! When you complete Challenges, you’ll earn double the amount of Season Points. Perfect to help grind through to the next tier - or make up some time for a missed day.

Updated July 30th
We’ll be running this event from Saturday, July 31st at 3 AM PT / 11 AM BST to Monday, August 2nd at 3 AM PT / 11 AM BST.

We hope that you enjoy these events. We’d also love to hear what you think of these Mutators and what other fun rule changes you would like to see in future game events!

Dunk the Devs

Explorers,

Horde Mode is in full swing, the Season 0 Battle Pass is available FREE for a limited time, and the devs are ready to tackle the frozen wasteland… Now it’s time for YOU to join the fun!

We’re kicking off our first Dunk the Devs event tomorrow, July 23rd from 10 AM - 12 PM PT / 6 PM - 8 PM BST and again at 4:30 PM - 6:30 PM PT / July 24th 12:30 AM - 2:30 AM BST.

The Midwinter team will be out in force to queue up for Expedition and Horde Mode. Playing Scavengers while the event is active means you have a better chance to play with - or against - a dev!

You’ll be able to easily recognize if you have a dev in your match, based on their special Midwinter username. Follow us on Twitter to find out the special tag before the event begins. Say hi, have fun and remember to dunk the devs!

Will you team up with the Midwinter devs to survive Horde Mode, or hunt them down before they reach the Dropship in Expedition? The choice is yours.

July 21st Horde Update

Explorers,

We’re excited about our latest game update and hope that you’ll enjoy the changes coming to Scavengers. Check out all the new in-game updates that are coming tomorrow!

Season 0 Battle Pass

We’re introducing Season 0, The First Frontier, which comes complete with a new First Frontier Cruz skin and First Frontier weapon skins, all of which will be available in the Battle Pass available for free from July 23rd to August 6th.

You can read the full details here.

PvE Horde Mode

Battle waves of AI enemies in the brand-new PvE Horde Mode! This new mode will be available to play once you log in after the update tomorrow. Entering Horde Mode is easy - simply click on ‘Expedition’ in the main lobby and switch to ‘Horde’!

Check out the full details here.

Daily and Career Challenges

  • We’re continuing to add new Challenges to the rotation
  • Challenges are now split between Daily and Career Challenges
  • Daily Challenges reward you Season Points to advance your Battle Pass

EXP Adjustments

We’re adjusting the EXP formula so that as you play, you’ll earn EXP at a relatively steady rate. The goal of this change is to reward overall participation throughout the match.

  • Earn EXP for damage dealt, objectives completed, and time alive

Social System

  • You can now easily invite friends to your squad by clicking on the Invite button next to your Explorer in the lobby

Respawn System

Since we introduced the new Respawn system in June, we’ve been listening to your feedback. One of the core issues we’ve heard from you about this system is that the Datapoint requirement is very prohibitive, especially for teams that are behind.

With this update, we’re making it a bit easier by lowering the Datapoint requirement. After uploading the Datapoints, dead teammates will be resurrected automatically, no Backup Clone item will be needed. We’ve also fixed the issue where Data Uplinks sometimes weren’t available during CAT 5 storms.

Respawn Changes

  • Datapoint requirements have been reduced to 100 Datapoints for a 3-person team and 50 Datapoints for a 2-person team
  • Data Uplinks will no longer grant a Clone Backup Item. Now, dead teammates will automatically be resurrected once the Datapoint requirement has been met

General Gameplay

  • Single Team Hurry Up: the match will now speed up if there is only 1 team left. This will call the Dropship down early and it will take off shortly after the remaining team boards
  • You can now see if you’re visible on the map radar. Next to your player status, you’ll notice a stealth icon (an eye) that appears when you are hidden from radar detection
  • Shield bars for your team now visually scale as a proportion of health points
  • Scrap now shows at all times on the HUD
  • Improvements to spawn points and encounter layouts, including new signature location pieces, to better locate yourself within the world
  • We have new Explorer climbing animations, based on different clambering heights

Post Match Summary

  • Improvements to the Post Match Summary and EXP rewards. You can now see what EXP you gained from boosts applied to you or a teammate

Controller Adjustments

  • Scavengers now supports controller rumble
  • We’ve done a pass to improve the controller experience

Audio Improvements

  • Improvements to the item use sound effects
  • Polish pass on weapon audio
  • Improved Scourge sound effects that have amplified the creepy factor of Scourge-infected sites

Bug Fixes

  • Fixed: Match rewards incorrectly showing Salvage items earned from the previous match
  • Fixed: Data Uplink sites are now correctly found when the storms reach CAT 5
  • Fixed: Data upload does not speed up according to the number of players within the upload radius
  • Fixed: Recoil on revolvers is sometimes higher when using ADS (aim down sights)
  • Fixed: Multiple client and server crashes
  • Fixed: Missing shelter from several buildings and wreckage sites
  • Fixed: Character voices can be left behind while driving a vehicle
  • Fixed: Visible seams/gaps in the snow
  • Fixed: Interactable chests buried under the snow
  • Fixed: Missing subtitles for Mother and Explorer voice lines
  • Fixed: The squad tab in the menu shows incorrect info if a teammate leaves the match early
  • Fixed: Tarik’s stun trap deals a small amount of damage to them on detonation
  • Fixed: Wildlife sometimes teleports off the map for a brief moment
  • Fixed: AI facing the wrong way while firing at targets
  • Fixed: Spectating players on a team with 1 remaining survivor not receiving the correct salvage after the match completes
  • Fixed: Spawn count issues at specific tactical stash camps
  • Fixed: Incorrect icons sometimes show up on interactables the first time you mouse over them, then set to the proper icon after a couple of seconds
  • Fixed: Missing sound effects on the Ripsaw and Hackblade
  • Fixed: Translation errors across all languages
  • Fixed: Issues with activating Kali’s cloak with the Blink talent equipped causing one to cancel the other
  • Fixed: Weapons picked up while cloaked as Kali sometimes do not cloak with her
  • Fixed: Snow piles missing collision, allowing players to hide within
  • Fixed: Incorrect/missing voice lines from Explorers during the draft
  • Fixed: Lighting issues in the lobby
  • Fixed: Jumping while executing causes the Explorer model to get in a weird state
  • Fixed: Unlocked Research stations sometimes show as still locked
  • Fixed: Floating environment art
  • Fixed: Players don’t drop their Datapoints if they quit the match early
  • Fixed: The Voidbarrel sometimes fails to deal damage to vehicles
  • Fixed: Missing animation on Keepers opening crates/chests

We look forward to working with you as we continue to refine and improve Scavengers together. Please jshare your feedback and chat with fellow Explorers!

This Week’s Focus

Explorers,

We’re back with our latest Weekly Focus blog!

  • July 21st: Horde Update: Mark the date: Our July 21st Update brings with it a PvE Horde Mode, Season 0 Battle Pass, the EXP rework and more! We’ll be focused on supporting this update, so please let us know of any bugs or issues that you encounter while playing.
  • Dunk the Devs: At the end of the week, we’ll be running a special ‘Dunk the Devs’ event. During that event, keep an eye out for a member of our dev team in your match - we’ll be the one with a special IGN (in-game name). Keep an eye out for more info on this event, later this week.
  • Mutator Events: Last week, we introduced two Mutator events: GunFu and Arsenal. We’ll be running those events again this Tuesday, July 20th and Thursday, July 22nd.
  • Horde Mode: We’re excited to see how you feel about the new PVE Horde Mode! We’ll be keeping a close eye on your feedback after this mode goes live, so please share your thoughts and ideas with us.

  • Respawn System: Based on your feedback, we’re continuing to make changes to the Respawn System, including reducing the Datapoints requirement. We’re also fixing a bug that shows a higher Datapoint requirement.
  • In-Game News: Currently, the best places to find information and news about Scavengers is on our website, Steam, or our social channels. With information spread across several channels, we realize that it could be confusing to know where to look - especially if news isn’t shared on all those channels. We agree that major news should also be shared in-game, so all players can be kept updated. We’re also looking into future options to make it easier to find essential news while playing Scavengers.

Investigating:
We’re looking into these topics, to ensure that they are currently working as intended.

  • Initial Weapon Spawns: The initial spawn areas should all contain the same number of weapons, so no matter where you spawn, your team can be ready for action. We’ve heard that some areas feel as though fewer weapons spawn, making it more difficult at the start of the match. We’ll be investigating this, to ensure that all areas have the same number of weapons.
  • Respawning Near Enemies: Another feedback point we’ve heard is that sometimes when you respawn, enemies are nearby. You should respawn near your teammates, but not immediately in front of enemies. We’ll be looking into this, to ensure that it is working correctly.
  • Mutator Event Timing and Announcements: Last week, we introduced Mutator events: unique twists to the normal Expedition rules. Our announcements, especially on our social channels, might come a bit too late for some players to plan around the events and enjoy them. We’re working on fixing that, so that you have advanced notice before an event starts.

Upcoming Blogs

Here’s where we’ll keep you updated on what blog content you might see!

This week is a big content update, so most of our comms are focused around that! We kicked the week off talking about the Season 0 Battle Pass starting on July 23rd and the new PvE-only Horde Mode coming July 21st!

Tomorrow, we’ll be sharing what else you can expect in the July 21st Update with the Patch Notes. And at the end of the week, learn more about our Dunk the Devs event - stay tuned!

We’re committed to creating Scavengers with our amazing players. Please share your feedback and suggestions and let us know your thoughts on our focus topics.

Free Battle Pass and Brand New Horde Mode

JULY 22 UPDATE:

We would like to clarify the confusion surrounding purchasing a Battle Pass from the Season tab of the Shop.

We are offering a stand-alone Season 0 Battle Pass, which is currently FREE until August 6th. There is also a Season 0 Elite Bundle, which contains the Battle Pass and 5 Tier Skips. This bundle is discounted to 250 Chips while the Battle Pass is free.

You can only purchase the Season 0 Battle Pass OR the Season 0 Elite Bundle. Once you have purchased either item, BOTH items will be removed from the Shop.

Lastly, there is a Season Tier Skip for 100 Chips, that allows you to skip a tier. This item should remain in the Shop even after purchasing a Battle Pass.

We apologize for the initial confusion around purchasing the Battle Pass.

Explorers,

Things are heating up in Cascade Springs with our July update! We’re adding a new PvE-only Horde Mode for those who want to take a break from other teams on the attack, and a FREE (for a short while) mini Battle Pass to earn some cool First Frontier skins. Here’s what’s coming up!

Season 0 Battle Pass

Battle Passes have been something we’ve been exploring and we’re excited to introduce a new Scavengers Battle Pass in our next update! We’ll be running the first season - Season 0 - with a mini Battle Pass. As this is new territory for us, we’d love to get your feedback on what works and what doesn’t. Be sure to share your thoughts with us.

We are so very thankful for your dedication and passion for Scavengers since Early Access began in late April. To show our gratitude, we’ll be offering the Season 0 Battle Pass FREE for a limited time!

From July 23rd until August 6th, you can claim your free Battle Pass in the Shop. After that, it will still be available in the Shop at a permanent discount as an ongoing thank you for staying with us.

Our first Battle Pass season will last for 45 days, starting on Friday, July 23rd and ending on Monday, September 6th.

With the Battle Pass, you can earn fun new First Frontier cosmetic items, including a First Frontier Cruz skin, a cosy new Keeper skin, weapon skins, banners, and emblems. In addition to the new cosmetics, you can also earn some Chips and Research resources.

After unlocking the Battle Pass, you’ll immediately be able to claim the first reward - Cazador’s First Frontier weapon skin! Earning more rewards is easy - simply complete Challenges to earn progress towards the next tier. Don’t forget to claim your reward for each tier that you’ve unlocked!

New PvE Horde Mode

The newest update includes our first PvE-only mode: Horde! This will be available after the update on July 21st. Entering Horde Mode is easy - simply click on ‘Expedition’ in the main lobby and switch to ‘Horde’!

What’s Horde Mode all about? Here’s the low-down.

Teams of three must stand strong against waves of AI enemies, protecting two Data Uplinks. Collect enough data from destroyed enemies and Mother will send a rescue ship—called a R.A.S.P—to save you from the frozen wasteland.

Between horde waves, be sure to scavenge for weapons, ammo, and Scrap. Scrap can be used to Craft items or repair defenses, such as barricades and turrets. An adventurous Explorer can also scavenge the Orbital Debris to gain extra Scrap and data - if your team can survive without you...

You must protect the Data Uplinks if you want to get out alive. If both are destroyed, it’s game over and not even Mother can save you. Getting enough data to call down the R.A.S.P doesn’t mean you’re safe though, you’ll have to defend your rescue rocket until it’s time for extraction. Only then can you make your escape!.

We hope you enjoy testing out the new Season 0 Battle Pass and Horde mode. As always, we’d love to hear your thoughts and feedback on the new update, as well as what you would like to see in the future!

What's Happening This Week

Explorers,

We’re back with our latest Weekly Focus blog!

  • Final Testing for the July Update: Our next content update will be arriving next week, so we’re in the final stages to QA test new features and bug fixes.
  • Season 0 Battle Pass: With our July update, we will be introducing a Season 0 Battle Pass. This will be a test of the Battle Pass system during our inaugural season. We’ll be sharing more information soon.
  • Horde Mode: Horde Mode is an upcoming PvE feature where you and your team face off against waves of AI opponents. We’re excited to hear your feedback on the brand-new Horde Mode once it’s been released.
  • Matchmaking Improvements: We’re continuing to work on improvements to our matchmaking system. The goal behind these changes is to make the matchmaking system tuneable in the future. The matchmaking system won’t be introduced with our July update but it’s expected to come online when it’s ready.

Future Update:
For these, we’re planning to add them to Scavengers at some point, but don’t have a confirmed release date yet. They are part of our mid to long-term plans, so it could be months before they are available in-game.

  • Stamina System: We’ve heard your feedback on the “clunky” stamina system. We agree - it needs a bit of a rework to make it feel better. It’s something that we’re planning to address in a future update.
  • Respawn System: We know that the respawn system hasn’t been the smoothest experience, especially trying to find a Data Uplink in the late game. We’re planning to fix this so that a Data Uplink will always be available on the map.
  • Rebinding Controller Keys: We have plans to allow limited rebinding options. You will be able to select one of several preset options for your key bindings. There may also be additional customizable key binding options available when this is introduced.

Interesting:
We’re interested in adding these to the game and are currently looking into how it might work. We don’t have any definite plans, so they may or may not be added in a future update.

  • Practice Area: Having a separate practice area to test out Explorers and weapons is something that we’re interested in adding to Scavengers. Although we’re interested in potentially adding it in the future, we don’t currently have any plans when or if it might be included.

We’re committed to creating Scavengers with our amazing players. Please share your feedback and suggestions and let us know your thoughts on our focus topics.

More Mutators Are Coming

Explorers,

This past weekend we introduced our new Mutator events where we add a unique twist to the normal Expedition Mode rules.

We’ve heard some positive feedback from those who participated and enjoyed the event, so we’re bringing back the Arsenal Mutator this week - and debuting the GunFu Mutator!

Our plan is to start running them on a regular basis on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Starting off, these events will be active twice a day and may add in more times in the future.

MUTATOR GUNFU EVENT

During the Mutator: GunFu event, you will receive two random weapons when you respawn! This little twist means that the weapons you have when you die won’t be the same weapons you have after being resurrected.

We’ll be running this event twice on Tuesday, July 13th:

  • 9:30 AM - 11:30 AM PT / 5:30 PM - 7:30 PM BST
  • 3:30 PM - 5:30 PM PT / 11:30 PM - July 14th 1:30 AM BST

MUTATOR ARSENAL EVENT

The Mutator: Arsenal event returns! With every chest containing an Uncommon or higher rarity weapon, you could find what you want to complete your dream loadout! You can even find higher tier Signature Weapons when you open up random chests throughout Cascade Springs - including right as the match begins.

We’ll be running this event twice on Thursday, July 15th:

  • 9:30 AM - 11:30 AM PT / 5:30 PM - 7:30 PM BST
  • 3:30 PM - 5:30 PM PT / 11:30 PM - July 16th 1:30 AM BST

We hope that you enjoy the new twists introduced with these events. We would love to hear what you think of these Mutators and what other fun rule changes you would like to see!

Help us improve Scavengers by taking this survey!
