Mod Support – Will you spice up your vanilla game?

Hello there, Folks!

I'm glad to say that Scorchlands will have mod support from the very beginning, starting already with early access. This is great news for folks that want more stuff or wish to spice up their vanilla game a bit.

My goal is to make all of the content present in the game with the exception of the core mechanics, moddable. I know that your imagination is boundless and we want to let you go wild with your creations!

Modders will be able to modify and add terrains, biomes, buildings, technologies, and units. New language versions of the base game and mod localisation can be added to both the already existing and the newly introduced content.

Of course, I know that at the beginning the mod support won’t be flawless and modders will encounter bugs. However, I can assure you that all will be patched and improved with time. I'm very curious what is your opinion on mods and I can’t wait to see what you’ll cook up!

We’re back!

Hello, Folks!

You might have noticed a three-week-long break in communication. I’ve decided to leave some space for important things to be spoken about after Russia’s unprovoked act of aggression towards Ukraine. I stand for our brothers and sisters in Ukraine, who are now bravely and tirelessly defending their country against the invader. It is war, and I hope for a fast resolution in Ukraine’s favour.

My publisher has also donated 1 000 000 copies of games for Humble Bundle’s Charity Bundle for Ukraine, so if you can afford to help, check it out here!

However, a break in posting doesn’t mean a break in work! I’m now polishing the game and making final improvements. I’ve expanded the combat system to include more stats for the units. Later in the game, the player may even have a preferred combination of different units, and opponents can pose a more interesting challenge.

I’m also actively working on a system where the player will gradually claim terrain, which strongly affects the whole gameplay. While expanding throughout the map, the player changes it from volcanic terrain to friendly, grassy planes and only then they can build and terraform the land further.

What’s more, I’m also reworking the tutorial and I will also make some changes to the setting of the game.

If you want to support my game, add it to your wishlist. Stay safe!

Bonus System – how to make the most our of your colony

Hello, Folks! In one of the previous posts, we explained that building placement is very important in Schorchlands. There are many reasons for this – limited space, resource management, etc. There is another reason.

Introducing the bonus system. Each production building has its own set of rules specifying the set of conditions where it works at full capacity. Planning out your colony layout is just as much about production management, as it is about maximizing the performance of each individual building

Some bonuses can be quite straightforward. For example, raw resource producers need to be placed next to their desired resource veins, but this is only the tip of the iceberg. Liquid extractors should be placed on the shorelines, which are limited and hard to claim in a single colony. Mineshafts work faster when placed one next to another, however, they still need some unobstructed space to mine. Gatherers need a lot of free land, but with a big area, a few other buildings nearby won't hinder them that much.
Buildings that do process complex resources also behave in their own ways. Crafters work best next to raw extraction buildings. Artificer gets boosted by processing buildings, Alchemist profits from Farms and science buildings, etc.

There is no limit on bonuses that one tile can provide. If you find a very rare but very small resource vein, you can still build and organize a whole colony around it and use it to the fullest.

Thanks to all of this, planning a colony organically turns into an interesting puzzle. It will never be the same – each colony will differ from one another depending on the available resource veins, resources available or buildings placed.

Are you up for the challenge?
