In case you missed it, we recently revealed the release date for SCP: Secret Files - officially announced with a new trailer during the Future Games Show at gamescom 2022. And you won't have to wait long to get your hands on the finished game, as the secret files become declassified on 13 September 2022!
Well, we've got even more good news to share: what if you could get the game for free?
As we gear up for launch, we want to share our love for the creative side of the SCP mythology by inviting you to submit an original artistic interpretation of an existing SCP. We'll narrow down the entries to a top 5 (as chosen by our Discord members), and each will receive a free Steam code for the game. To sweeten the deal, the overall winning artwork will also be included somewhere in our upcoming DLC!
As promised, we had some big news to share at this year's Future Games Show, which took place a little earlier as part of gamescom 2022.
First up was an updated trailer, showing off some new gameplay snippets and laying out the foreboding vibe players can expect to encounter when the full game finally hits. And when will that be, you ask? Well, this brings us to our second big reveal of the day - the release date. We're excited to confirm that SCP: Secret Files will officially launch on 13 September 2022!

07/22 Devlog: Fellow researchers, please be prepared!
An unexpected rainstorm near our studio recently brought heatwave temperatures back down towards normality, and we suddenly realised it had been over a month since our last proper update!
I guess we did disappear for a while. On the one hand, wishlists for SCP: Secret files have risen to over 180,000, far exceeding our expectations. We are very honored to have so many players supporting our work, but this level of trust and expectation also places more responsibility on our shoulders and makes us more focused and cautious. On the other hand, we are constantly collecting and absorbing feedback from both players and the media as we try our best to improve many aspects of the game.
Like all members of the SCP Foundation, we are willing to work silently in the dark to create a better and more vibrant world.
However, perhaps due to the gameplay style showcased in our Steam Next Fest demo, or maybe because the most popular SCP games tend to lean heavily on horror, we have discovered that a considerable number of players believe that SCP: Secret Files will be a 100% horror-focused game.
Allow us to clear up any confusion - horror is simply one element of the SCP: Secret Files experience.
Unlike some other SCP games that focus on a specific gameplay style (such as first-person shooter, survival horror, etc), our aim was to bring SCP stories to life in a more diverse way based on our understanding of SCP fiction and mythology. Of the various anomalies depicted in our game, some will be benign or even friendly, while others are grotesque and highly dangerous. We are eager to tell their stories from different angles and styles, and in the process highlight the interesting and varied world of SCP. As mentioned on the Steam page, through the course of the game players will: investigate a mysterious hydroelectric power plant, immerse themselves in an uplifting fable, delve into a bizarre, retro-inspired world, and much more besides!
All of these adventures are tied together through a framing narrative that has you take on the role of a rookie Foundation researcher. Are you ready to become the newest hire at Site-105?
Finally, let's talk about everyone's favorite plague doctor - SCP-049. You love him, we love him - apart from "the pestilence", everyone loves him! However, as we approach the launch of the game and the finished story comes into view, we've had to make a tough decision regarding 049. Originally slated to play a role in the main game, we'd decided to instead focus an entire section of DLC around this character. We want to do justice to SCP-049, and it became clear that this wouldn't be possible if we tried to incorporate him into the story as it now stands. Development of this DLC chapter will begin while the main game receives pre-launch polish, so you won't need to wait too long to see what we have planned!
Keep your eyes peeled for more updates soon...as well as one particularly big announcement that's coming in hot!
Over and out.
Last Chance to Try Our Demo!
Thanks to the hard work of our Field Agents, SCP-701 has almost been properly contained once more. We estimate Pony Station will have been made "safe" in approximately 24 hours.
This gives you just under a day to download and try out our demo before it becomes "classifed" once again. So don't waste any time - go check out what RockPaperShotgun has called "the most ambitious SCP game yet"
Demo Bug fixing: Version 0.1.24941 is up!
To all Field Personnel:
This is the Head of Archives Department, C·A.
On June 15th, we reported some problems with the "Demo-701" file. Task Force MTF-GZ6 took immediate action to minimize possible risks during the containment and research process. The operation took about 30 hours in total, but our work is far from over. These secret files will always breed fresh chaos, and there will always be new challenges for us to face. We must remain vigilant at all times.
In the process, you—the Foundation's Field Personnel—contributed your unparalleled enthusiasm and precise judgment to make the containment of these items as safe and as smooth as possible. The Archives Department would like to express our sincere thanks for your dedication.
Currently, the repair operation is still ongoing. Please refer to the list of changes below:
- Fixed an issue where the camera could not be turned in certain scenes - Optimized text descriptions and localization - Removed unnecessary invisible walls - Optimized performance in some areas - Fixed an issue where the language setting could not be saved

Demo Bug fixing: Version 0.0.24897 is up!
To all Field Personnel:
As you know, the Foundation has recently recruited a number of capable and courageous Field Agents—you!—to conduct a preliminary investigation into the project code-named "Demo-701". To begin with, please allow me to show a great appreciation to every agent who provided us with feedback. We immediately gathered your opinions and conclusions in order to draw up a detailed file report which was then submitted to relevant Site Directors. Consequently, the Foundation has determined that a number of discrepancies currently exist within "Demo-701". We have contacted MTF-GZ6 to resolve some of these issues, and the rest will be addressed soon. We expect the project to be accessible in a more secure manner once it has been updated on the control panel.
Please refer to the update list below for details: - Fixed an issue where the character sometimes gets stuck in the game - Fixed an issue where the camera occasionally gets stuck when turning - Optimized collection system prompts - players will no longer be prompted to collect combat gadgets - Optimized the collection system switch button - press TAB to open/close the collection - Added flashlight power button - press F to turn on/off the flashlight - Optimized the hitbox of the clock puzzle to improve usability - Slightly increased the character's walking speed - Adjusted mouse sensitivity and synchronized X- and Y-axis movement speed - Added an option to adjust mouse sensitivity in the settings - Added an option to invert Y axis in the settings - Optimized the interact prompt - Optimized flashlight brightness - Added a prompt to sprint - hold shift to speed up - Fixed an issue where SteamVR would automatically be turned on when launching the game
