Scribble It!

Patch-Notes 1.2.0

Patch 1.2.0 is now live!

This patch contains improvements and new features from a variety of domains.
The complete list of changes can be found at the bottom of this post.
Let's dive into the most important changes of this patch:

Toolbar

We changed some important aspects of our beloved toolbar.

Until now you could select between three different sizes of the same brush. We changed this to a single brush. Having only a single brush and changing its size with the scrollbar should be a much more intuitive and easy way to change the brush size.

As you can see filled shapes made a comeback. We had these a while back but removed them. By popular demand from the community we added them back to the toolbar!

We also changed the color palette. We removed some colors and added some others. We also finally found some bugs that were causing problems when selecting the color resulting in the player having to click multiple times to change the color.

Now you might ask yourself...wait, where is the color wheel? Fear not it is still there.
We wanted to make accessing the most important tools faster. The color palette surely is very important in a drawing game. While the color wheel allows for a more individual selection of colors it is most often used when there is more time at hand. This is why you can now switch between the two like this:

You can see we also added another feature that has been lost but not forgotten....welcome back opacity! We would love to hear feedback regarding this change from you!

But not only that, we also simplified using shapes. Not using any modifier keys will now result in a simple upright shape. For the more experienced users we added an option to create equilateral shapes as you can see in the animation above. You can change the key bindings for this in the options menu.

Invite Codes

Another much requested feature has been added to the game. From now on other players can join you via invite code. At the bottom of the player list you can now find a button which lets you copy the invite code. The copy symbol can be clicked to copy the code without showing it in case you are a streamer and don't want to leak the code. You can also click on the text to see the actual code.

To join a game via invite code simply go to the main menu, press "Play" and enter the code in the text field at bottom of the screen.

Game Mode Filter

It is now possible to search for specific game modes. Enjoy!

Various Quality of Life Changes

We implemented a way to hide the canvas buttons which are sometimes an annoying obstacle when drawing. The default binding for this is Shift+T but you can customize this in the options menu.

We also added the option to hide the display of the current tool on top of the cursor when drawing. Another change we made is that the game now flashes in the task bar when an action is required. This should minimize the times you miss your turn in the future.

Below you can find the complete list of changes. As always we encourage you to give us feedback or opinions about the game on our Discord server or on Twitter!

A Message to our Community

Dear community,

as most of you have noticed we changed the way premium lobbies work as part of the last patch.
Today we adjust these changes and go back to the old status. This means players who own the free-2-play version are once again able to play “Guess It! Grand Reveal” and “Rate It!” after a friend who owns the premium version invited them. We also went a bit further and now allow any player to find every game mode via quick search. Search options for specific game modes, as well as a lobby browser will follow soon.

Originally, after releasing Scribble It! in October 2020, the two game modes mentioned were only to be included in the premium edition. After our official launch we had some technical difficulties and were confronted with quite a few bugs. So, we decided it was fair to give our new F2P players the ability to test these premium game modes as a way to compensate for the poor gaming experience.

We communicated this state of the game and that it will change in the future via Discord. In hindsight this was not the correct way to handle this as many people simply did not see our statement regarding premium game modes. Lesson learnt. Rightfully, changing the state of premium lobbies back to the originally intended state as part of the patch on December, 6 caused a lot of irritation within our community.

During the last days we read each and every one of your messages and listened to your concerns about how this change will impact the future. It became quite obvious that a lot of you love playing all of our game modes with their friends. We now understand that the changes we made were not at all aligned with our initial goal. With Scribble It! we wanted to create something that would take friends and those who might become friends out of their everyday lives for a short time and connect them through our game.

This is our very first game-release but that should not be an excuse for a poor decision on our end, for that we apologize.

Currently, we are two people that are developing this game part-time next to our main jobs. We love creating games for you and want to spend as much time as possible doing exactly that which is why the premium edition exists. In the future we'd like to expand on new platforms and create more entertaining moments for our players. Without all of you this would not be possible therefore we want to thank you for the huge support since release. We have received enormous amounts of feedback from which we have learned A LOT.

We hope you will continue to accompany us on this journey.

- Zaratusa and soeanski, the developers

Patch Notes:

  • All game modes are now search- and joinable for all players
  • Added winter contest banner to main menu
  • Updated translations

Bugfixes:

  • Fixed crash when joining game and player is not yet initialized

Patch Notes 1.1.6 Romanian Word Packages, PT-br UI

Hello everyone,

with todays patch we added Romanian to the list of supported languages for our official word packages!
We also added another crowdsourced UI translation: Brazilian-Portuguese.

Update: We reverted parts of this patch, read here.
Today, we also changed another important aspect of the game.
With leaving Early Access and the subsequential official release of Scribble It! on the 20th of October, 2020 we decided to introduce a free version and a paid version of the game.
Originally, the two game modes "Guess It! - Grand Reveal" and "Rate It!" were only to be included in the premium edition. A bug occured which allowed owners of Scribble It! Premium to invite other players to their lobbies regardless of their game version and play the premium content with them. After our official launch we had some technical difficulties and were confronted with quite a few other bugs. So we decided to leave this particular game mode "bug" in the game for the time being to compensate for the poor gaming experience. Today we changed this back to the originally intended state. Premium owners can no longer invite any player to give them access to premium content. Read about the original statement on Discord.

Last but not least we want to thank you for the huge support since release. We have been able to multiply our player numbers and have received enormous amounts of feedback from which we have learned A LOT. We hope to continue this path together with you and make the game even better.
