Secrets of Grindea

Patch 0.602 is out on Frontline!

Frontline only! Click here for Frontline instructions

Finally some Story Mode progress! This update features the set of cutscenes that occurs after returning from the Temple of Seasons, a microboss encounter and the festive part of the festival! While very asset heavy for us to create it's a modest amount of progress game time wise, but we hope you'll enjoy it!

If you have feedback on the new content, you can give it to us in the comments below. When giving feedback on the boss, please tell us what your level and build was when fighting it!

NOTE: In classical Frontline fashion (as the old timers know), when new stuff have just been added they are without their correct sound effects! Thus, don't be alarmed when the dragon roars are silent. They will get the sfx they deserve!

New Beta Chat Commands

If you want to rewatch the dragon cutscene for some reason, you can type /dragonreset after watching it.

To reset the progress in the festival, you can type /festivalreset to restore the zone!

To battle the microboss again, type /beereset and re-enter the zone where she spawns.

(NOTE: These commands alter the local state, so in multiplayer all clients must type this in before the server to prevent desync)

The new content ends just before the final part of the quest, which we'll start working on right as I've clicked "Post Announcement"!

If you want to follow the progress and get a glimpse of the wonderful hell/heaven hybrid that is game development, you can check out our DevBlog! Be warned that it contains spoilers, though!

Patch 0.601 is out on Frontline!

Frontline only! Click here for Frontline instructions

Wow, getting this out there took longer than I had hoped, for a variety of reasons. On the flip side, this has given Fred the opportunity to catch up (or rather get ahead), so I can start churning through story implementation again!

Anyway, like I said in the previous patch note, as Fred toiled away on some massive animations I seized the opportunity to make the game translateable through the Steam Workshop! This isn't huge news for everyone, but for a significant portion of our player base, having to play the game in English is really bothersome. Despite most gamers having a decent understanding of English, the details are still lost to many players.

Most importantly, this finally allows English speaking users that are sick of Bag's attitude to turn him into a cheerleader-type instead! Or make an English 'translation' with less cussing. Or... why not one where everyone swears like a sailor?

Hopefully the tools will see some use, or I'm going to cry myself to sleep for all the work spent on making them! Click here for more info on the tools

Another somewhat significant addition is a hopefully much more robust save backup system, which works independently of the Steam Cloud. I've also disabled the emergency save feature that triggers on crashes, as I suspect it was, ironically, the culprit of some save file loss bugs.

Oh, and you can transform Essence into hats now, for those of you who've got Arcade Mode Essence flowing out of your ears by now!

Patch 0.600amigo is out!

Hello everyone! New patch! This patch also marks the point where the Stable and Frontline will yet again branch, so be sure to switch to Frontline if you want to keep getting the latest (but possibly unstable) releases:

http://secretsofgrindea.com/forum/index.php?threads/how-to-switch-between-stable-and-frontline-and-why.127/

The patch mostly consists quality of life changes, balance changes and bug fixes. The most interesting addition is probably the Style slots for weapons and shields, which work the same as the hat and facegear-slots!

Some info on story progress: The next story beat requires some pretty significant animation assets, and Fred is animating furiously to get that out there! He's only a demigod, though, so even for him it's a lot of work. In other words, the next 1-2 patches will probably not be about continuing the story.

I (Teddy, programmer) will take this opportunity to integrate the translation tools into Steam, so non-English speaking players have an easier time creating, sharing and downloading fan translations. When that is done I will continue to prep the Mt.Bloom area and the third temple, so those places become faster to finish up when the story catches up.

If you want to follow the progress and better understand what I'm jabbering about, you can check out our DevBlog! Be warned that it contains spoilers, though!
