Seeders

Added Steam achievements

Version 2.0.2 is online. The game now has Steam achievement for every hat. You have to reach a checkpoint after collecting it in order for the game to save it. The level editor is now available from the main menu as well.

Both of these changes are only available in the Puzzle Reboot version, so make sure you select that one when launching the game.

A new game by Bigosaur

Since Seeders was released I have been working on a new game. It's an action roguelike game which is easy to play, but has complex game mechanics. It supports 1-4 players, both in local co-op and online.

The game is called "Son of a Witch", and you can find it here: http://store.steampowered.com/app/539400/

Major update v1.2

This is a first major update since the game was released. This update is focused on fixing all the puzzles that seem hard to execute. The puzzles are changed to use different types of objects, so that the player doesn't have to fiddle with tricky physics anymore.

Some of the hard puzzles are made optional - you can still play them to get the hats. Some puzzles were removed from regular single player story, but you can still play them in co-op. If you want, you can restore the old puzzles (instructions below), which I recommend you do after you complete the main storyline.

Here are the details:

- Major changes to puzzles in Chapter One: now all puzzles have consistent physics. Some hard to execute puzzles are now optional and you can still play them to win hats, but they are not required to complete the chapter.

- The old version of Chapter One is still included in the game package. If you want to play it, go to game's directory and copy the worldo.json file to world.json.

- Added alien underground tunnels in Chapter One to hint some ideas from the main game story.

- Added hint to help you solve the sliding rooms puzzle in Chapter Three. Especially useful for players who play with smaller screen resolutions and can't see much of the surrounding rooms without walking into them.

- Changed level designs on Chapter Five that allowed you to get stuck with a bad checkpoint save in situation that's impossible to solve.

- Redesigned some puzzles in Chapter Five to prevent them from being solved by dragging a piece from a different puzzle. I initially though it would be a good idea to have such alternate solutions, but it clashes with checkpoint system that saves the state of the whole world. Each puzzle is self-contained and defined by the area between two checkpoints.

- XBox360 controllers now default to using left stick instead of d-pad. If you have already played with a 360 controller the settings would be kept. If you want to change this, you can set the controls manually in the Settings menu.

- Added new (hopefully funny) game over messages

- The game does not change your save files, so you won't see the new levels automatically if you continue a saved game. The new levels are loaded only when you reach the end of the current chapter and move to the next one. However, you can force reloading: If you are currently playing Chapters One, Three or Five and want to see the new content, press PAUSE button while in the game (defaults to ESC on keyboard and START on XBox360 controller) and select the Restart Chapter option. This way you would only play the current chapter from start instead of restarting the whole game.

Spoilers

For all of you who are having a hard time, here's a video showing how to complete some puzzles in the first chapter:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HHfwI9TXkeU

The video shows somewhat older version of the game, so some puzzles are changed and the order is not the same. Still, it can give you clues or ideas if you get stuck somewhere.

I considered about updating it with a recent version, but maybe it's more of a challenge like this, so I won't. From chapter 2 onward, you are on your own :)

Co-op

A few details about co-op play. Co-op is basically the same as the main campaign. There are about 10 additional puzzles unique to co-op that require two players to cooperate. All the other puzzles are mostly the same, although some are slightly changed and some are removed because they are not suitable for two players...

Most notably, the puzzles removed include: keypad puzzle at the end of chapter one, the big elevator puzzle in chapter one and the entire chapter three which is really a single-player puzzle and the other player would get bored.

In co-op, both players need to stand at the telephone booth to save the checkpoint.

There are no hats to collect. Instead. players get to pick a hat to wear at the start of the game.

All these changes mean that co-op is easier to play than single player mode. However there are a couple of puzzles that are a little bit harder because both players need to sync their movements (for example: jumping the loose floors in chapter 4).

Additionally, a combination of one very skilled and one average skilled player also works well, because most puzzles can be solved mainly by skilled player while the other one just follows and moves/jumps at right moment. This means that both players can think about possible solutions, and once they figure it out, the more skilled one can execute it.

Level editor

The level editor is officially not supported yet.

It mostly works, but it is still not very user friendly and does not have complete documentation. However, you can try it out by pressing F7 in the main menu. You can then place player on the screen by pressing 4, and some enemies with other number keys. To toggle the background image, press T.

I plan to release a new version with more user-friendly and well documented level editor in the future and then I will mark that the game has a level editor.

Linux and Mac builds coming later

This is my first game on Steam, so I did not want to complicate things as I'm still learning how the release process works. The game has mostly been developed on Linux (Ubuntu 14.04) and Mac (Yosemite 10.10) and I have working versions for both, but those will come after the Windows launch completes and I see that everything is in order.

Important note: both Linux and Mac version will be 64-bit only.
