The Development Logs - Log 005: Beta Prologue Episode 01 Complete

Howdy reader!

Posey here with an update!

We've finished the first episode of the Beta Prologue (well enough to have a little fun and test some stuff)

Added some sound effects manager to our dialogue system so we will be adding VO shortly!

Fixed a ton of the glippy stuff that was just making the game break if you really tried to break it. Now it is a bit harder to break the game!

Fixed some of the camera work and experimenting with some profiles between the two prologues.

And really just a bunch of other stuff that I can't remember but know we fixed it lol.

Okie words no workie anymore!

Have fun!!!

Stay dreaming,
~Posey

The Development Logs - Log 004: Bug Squashed and New Stuff

Howdy der Steamian!

Posey here with another fun update to the demo!

We squashed some of the game breaking bugs and really optimized more of our dialogue and quest systems to aid in a more stable play through!

We have some fun stuff you can start interacting with in the Beta Prologue as we begin implementing our reticle and interact system so you can do all the standard RPG stuff like LOOK AT THAT! OPEN THAT CHEST! TALK TO THAT PEASANT!!!

Some of the bugs we squashed dealt with moving during dialogue and breaking the poor games brain, S.A.L.I. didn't like that so we made her happy so she doesn't delete us >.>;; <.<;;

There were some other bugs we squashed but truthfully its been rapid fire and well they're squashed and the demo currently works...worksish...still have some issues with the input controller and some strange alt+tab thing that seems to be linked to the game inputs too...anywho we're working on it.

Okie dokie!

I am tired of writing now and I wanna go back and work on the game so that's what I'm gonna do.

The Development Logs - Log 003: The Beta Prologue Begins

Howdy settlers!

Posey here with another mammoth of an update!

We're extra excited about this update as we have really accelerated through some of our development targets and got a ton done for the game.

First thing is the Game Start experience adding some warning screens and messaging to help convey to players that we are very early access and constantly working on the game to produce meaningful content as we develop.

Next big thing is the Main Menu! We are hooking up all the rad art we have been making and starting to implement it into the game to really start making it look more and more like the game we see it as.

On the main menu you will see two prologues that you can select from.

Our Alpha Prologue takes place in a simulator that is used to maintain the safety of the settlers leaving Earth to their new home. This side of the demo is a story-based mechanics driven sandbox used by our team to develop and polish movement, platforming, combat, and more. This allows us to skip the traditional greyboxing stage of development and puts players directly into our world ready to play. Players can enter the simulation as Not Dave, a settler who has been trapped in the simulator and must escape before it is to late.

The Beta Prologue takes place on the world of Planet 7 as the settlement is being built for its arriving settlers from Earth. This is our open-world environment where our cozy mechanics of farming, homestead, and more will be developed and tweaked through player feedback as we go. Players can already hop in and explore the world as r0-b3rt one of the Congobots responsible for the settlements construction and get a glimpse of what’s to come.

There is a ton of bugs and little glips in the game as solving those will take lots of time and we will be refining them as we continue to create content for the game. But the demo plays from start to finish and is pretty fun :D

Demo updates:

-Optimized quest engine and scene manager even more that before!
-Optimized the character controller to begin working within our physics engine.
-One whole new story with new zones, characters and even more story to find out.
-Lots of cool new visual effects and art work to make this game look so pro.
-Revamped the main menu system to prepare for our menu update coming down the pipe.

Known Bugs

- Return to main menu temporarily disabled due to some gremlins.

- Mouse controls: there is a disparity between the look sensitivity using the mouse vs using the gamepad. Due to this and a variety of other issues revolving around dynamically switching input devices, we have decided to make it gamepad exclusive and remove mouse/keyboard controls.

- Some camera movements not functioning optimally.

-Lots of camera collision issues with environment assets, needs a good bit of refining.

-Issues with keyboard and gamepad inputs not working, becomes fixed with an alt+tab out and alt+tab back into the game. Isolating that issue currently.

-Keyboard and mouse controls are still not optimized currently in the works to fix. Just use a gamepad if its tooo0oooooooo janky.

-Bounce pads are a pain in the bum...working on those too.

Works In Progress

-Character Controller needs months more of work to be perfect
-Menu Redesign
-In Game Bug/Dev Log
-Credits
-Bounce Pads as they are dependent on the character controller
-Save System
-Episode 02 Achievements
-Beta Prologue Episode 01
-Audio Manager (To control music and sound volume. Sorry they are blasting atm)
-Input Manager
-Time Manager
-Scene Manager

The Development Logs - Episode 002: New Episode In Demo

Howdy settlers!

Posey here with one meaty update!

That is right! Episode 02 in the flesh...well code...is ready for you to dive in and experience a pretty fun platforming episode testing out our base platform controls and mechanics before we go nuts with them.

There is a ton of bugs and little glips in the game as solving those will take lots of time and we will be refining them as we continue to create content for the game. But the demo plays from start to finish and is pretty fun :D

Demo updates:

-Optimized quest engine and scene manager even more!
-Added an updated character controller to begin working within our physics engine.
-One whole complete new episode with new quests, characters and even more story to find out.
-2 new rip roaring music tracks Cyber Fog and Digital Misama.
-Lots of cool new visual effects and art work to make this game look so pro.
-Updated main menu system to prepare for our menu update coming soon.

Known Bugs

-Pause menu only works with gamepad input, still no escape key / if you go back to main menu gamepad nav ceases to work / if you start simulation, it goes to a black screen and plays the SALI background noise, that's pretty much it

- Pause Menu: going back to Main Menu then selecting Start Simulation causes some systems to overlap (i.e. opening dialogue will start playing on main menu screen, quest HUD still visible when going back to main menu during "A Log Rhythm" quest, ground plane does not load sometimes making character fall forever, etc.) Recommend quitting app completely if you want to replay the level.

The Development Logs - Episode 001: Demo Updated

Howdy Fam!

Posey here with another supercharged update to the game!!!

We have been busy since the launch of the Demo and getting some much needed feedback on the technology and how it runs and how y'all are enjoying the super duper rad prologue!

Anywho here is all the things we were busy updating, fixing and implementing this last couple of weeks!

Demo updates:

- Optimized scene management
- Added camera movement
- Added post processing
- Dialogue sequence events
- Character animation & controller updates

Known Bugs:

- Pause Menu: buttons not automatically selected, will become selected with D-pad input on gamepad.

- Pause Menu: Pause Menu script causing navigation to go out of order

- Pause Menu: can be activated on the main menu.

- When collecting Log Notes during the quest, collecting a log before closing the previous note will cause the notes to stack. Only one top note can be closed with gamepad input, the underlying note can be closed with mouse input.

-back to the "Main Menu" from the "Pause Menu" screen, I can no longer use the D-Pad, or the Joysticks. I can only use the mouse to click the buttons.

Okie Dokie!

The Development Logs - Episode 000: Demo Now Available

Howdy fam,

Posey here kicking off our first Development Log! We will be posting our development updates as we build this super rad game here on steam and announcing when we release new episodes to the demo.

Right now you can download the demo for free and experience the pilot episode of the Alpha Prologue, a mysterious adventure where the player plays the settler who just boarded the ship on earth and enters the cryro sleep and has their mind uploaded to the simulation.

The Seneca Seven Super Serious Settler Simulation Software is the digital mindscape created for the settlers to be uploaded into during their long journey to their new home on Seneca 7. This simulation is meant to keep the settlers brains from becoming squishy from the years of cyro sleep.

As the prologue begins the settler finds out that something disturbing happens during their upload and they must solve the mysteries of the simulation and repair it before the ship arrives to the settlement.

Be sure to check back every weekish for announcements, updates and new episodes to play and learn more about the world of Seneca 7 :D
