Update 1.2015.06.13 - Particles

Some of you may have noticed particle effects in the old Shadow Hunter video, but not in the game. Welp... that's because somewhere along the line I was doing some work, and forgot to turn them back on. So... now they're back! :)

I still want to do some work on them, because I think some of it is over the top. But at least they are pretty to look at. Let me know if they are too distracting or need to be toned down.

As always, thanks for the feedback!

-Jeff

::Version::
1.2015.06.13

- Particles turned on

Update 1.2015.06.12 - Fear Conversion

Hi all,

This one is a bit of a game changer. So, you might want to create a new Initiate (no need to reset the world).

The main feature of this update is to introduce "Removing Tiles of their Fear" (i.e. removing courage costs from them), by chaining Combos. This will also lead me into adding "Room Conversion Bonuses" and other fun stuff like that. Perhaps in the future, good things will spawn if a room is converted in one swoop. So many possibilities!

Let me know what you think...

Enjoy!

-Jeff

::Version::
1.2015.06.12

- Tile Conversion. You can now remove Fear Tiles (tiles that cost Courage) by Picking Locks, Guessing Correctly, and Chaining Combos. There is more to add for this feature, so stay tuned!
- Academy Removed due to inline tutorializing... it will be retooled later for a new purpose.
- HUD Changes.
- More Info when commiting actions for the first time.
- Game Board Updates
- Font Changes
- Code refactoring.

Update 1.2015.06.2 - Fear, Courage, and Beacons...

::Version::
1.2015.06.2

::Changes::
- Replaced all references of "Food" with "Courage", it just fits better... also, there is a lot more I can do with it.
- You now lose Courage based on the fear level of the tiles you walk on (current max is 1 Courage per step).
- Some tiles don't cost Courage to move on... Stair and Information tiles are among them.
- Increased the amount of searchable walls
- Replaced Info Font with something easier to read
- Replaced Menu Font with something easier to read
- Increased chance for a searchable wall to appear
- Decreased chance for random Shadow Scroll quests
- Added text to the event card to explain something about the scroll (more to come)
- Changed Unlock Bonus Base payout to 100gp
- You now gain +2 Courage when winning a battle.
- Changed bonus gold base for using the stairs, from 1000 to 100.
- New Ability: Placeable Shadow Beacons... This should help. ;)
- Beacons were added to the Action Tool
- The Movement Selector now appropriately switches to Teleport in the Action Tool
- You can activate the Action Tool by Right-Clicking
- You no longer need to be adjacent to use the Action Tool.
- Teleport costs "distance + fear level of the target tile", in courage.
- Beacon costs 9 courage.
- The Cursors Action Indicator now displays the amount of Courage required to commit that action.
- You gain Courage when scoring a HIT when in combat.
- Cursor Icon now displays Courage cost per action.
- Right Click opens the Action Tool
- Left Click initiates the Cursor Action
- More inline tutorials
- Safe areas that cost no Courage to walk on.
- The begining of a long map redesign session. Many of the maps need to be adjusted to fit the new rule set.

Of course, please report any bugs or suggestions in the Shadow Hunter Forum here on Steam.

Also,

If you want to help me test future versions, I have some beta keys... and if you do a good job reporting, I can even put your name in the credits as a nod! Currently, I have 10 keys open... so if you're interested, head on over the the ol' forums and let me know!

Enjoy!

Upcoming Update - Courage

Hello everyone!

So, I've been reading a ton by the lot of you... and really liked the input I've received (both good and bad)! Based on this, I've decided to divert and take the game down one of the original design roads I had planned.

Here is some of what's on the upcoming change log...

::UPCOMING CHANGES AND ADDITIONS::

  • Added Beacons. For 1000 gold, you can toss a Beacon into an area to receive extra hints. This will help set up combos, and level the playing field.
  • Food has been Removed! No more Starvation or Soup for joo!
  • You now have Courage... and all actions require it!
  • You no longer run out of Torches and Stones. Using these items now cost Courage. Fail, and you lose a little faith. Prevail, and you gain more than when you started.
  • Some areas require Courage to walk on... some none at all.
  • Courage is awarded when you win a Logic or Memory Puzzle. Your wits should carry you.
  • Aside from Searching... Everything that requires Courage, has a Logic or Memory Puzzle associated with it.
  • Replaced Info Font with something easier to read.
  • Replaced Menu Font with something easier to read.
  • Increased chance for a searchable wall to appear.
  • Decreased chance for random Shadow Scroll quest.
  • Added more descriptive Event Card Text.
  • Changed Unlock Bonus Base payout to 100gp
  • You now gain Courage when winning a battle.
  • You now gain Courage when unlocking a door.
  • Changed bonus gold base for using the exit stairs, from 1000 to 100.
  • Fixed inability to search a "searchable" object before you made your first move

I still need to do some GUI/HUD Changes, in addition to rewording some of the tutorial/information text. But I'm hoping to have all this done by next weekend, or sooner!

If you wish to be a beta tester for the next version, please let me know. I currently have 10 keys... but could get more if there was a demand.

Thanks all!
-Jeff

Still Plugging Away!

Hey all,

I just wanted you to know that I'm reading the comments in the Forums and Recommendations. They've really given me a lot to think about regarding direction, and has given me more drive to want to get this game polished for you all.

I'll try to keep up a "once a week" update schedule, even if they only fix/adjust one thing. That should keep things rolling until completion. :)

Thanks for commenting, and please keep up the constructive input!

-Jeff
