Hello everyone! The 1.1 update for Shadows is now live, featuring a few fixes and a number of enhancements.
Bug Fixes
Fixed a bug where the icon for firewood in the alternative ending was not following the screen as the player moved.
Feature Changes
The Shadow's thoughts will no longer just appear after finding memories! Now various thoughts will appear at the bottom of the screen to guide the player and make sense of the mysteries in Shadows.
Updated various cave designs.
Reduced the length of the earthquake effect.
Added a fade out for the earthquake effect.
Made the earthquake effect follow the player.
Updated the rendering engine to make it more compatible with older computers.
Fireflies will now glow more prominently.
Normalized the volume of sound effects more evenly.
Changed the anti-aliasing style of the text for a cleaner appearance in full screen mode.
Graphics will no longer be rendered while the game is minimized.
Hotfix for Boulders!
Hello everyone!
I've been getting a few reports recently that sometimes boulders are unresponsive to being dragged back and forth. This is a serious issue and not one that seemed to be present before the 1.0.0 build. Since the cause is presently unknown, I've adjusted the levels in Shadows so that all boulders have been removed!

I’m beyond glad to say that Shadows has officially been released! Version 1.0.0 is now live both here and on Steam across the world. It’s been an incredible journey developing this game alongside a community of people who wanted to see it succeed and grow. As an upcoming college student, this is just my first step in the game development industry, and I’d like to thank everyone who helped make it possible. So, thank you to all the YouTubers, to all the reviewers, to all the beta testers, and to my friends and family who supported me in this grand, two-year endeavor.

Patch Notes - 8/17/2017
Hello everyone! There’s only a week left before Shadows is formally released, and that makes this the last patch before it goes live. Thank you to everyone who helped to make this possible; the videos, the Reddit posts, and the emailed feedback have all contributed to making Shadows a better game. This patch features a few changes that had been planned for a while but never fully implemented. Now, without further ado, here are the patch notes:
Bug Fixes
Fixed a bug where text wouldn’t always fade out for memories.
Fixed a bug where completing the game would generate a black fadeout instead of a white one.
Fixed a bug where menu options weren’t centered.
Fixed a bug where "Press E" wouldn’t fade out for obelisks.
Feature Changes
Changed default sound levels to 80 for music and 25 for sound effects.
Made the boulder dragging sound effect louder.
Added a firefly collection sound effect.
Secret walls will now fade out when passing through the entrance.
A couple of new boulders have been added to the Far East Tunnels and a couple of smaller pathways.
The opening cutscene has been updated and will play as a video in-game.
Patch Notes - 7/30/2017
Hello everyone! This is a large bug fixing patch focused on patching up some residual issues.
Bug Fixes
Fixed a bug where the escape menu was flashing when opened.
Fixed a bug where additional sounds are being canceled when the player walked or jumped.
Fixed the levels leading to the fourth memory by replacing the hidden wall at the end of the area to be at the connecting room where it should be.
Fixed a bug where obelisk walls were not being destroyed upon activating obelisks.
Fixed a few levels where jumping up was made impossible due to the recent changes to the camera movement.
Fixed a bug where boulders could not be moved using WASD.
Feature Changes
Shortened earthquakes.
Added arrows to the visual tutorial indicating to move the boulder while holding E.
Firefly swarms in secret rooms can now only be collected once per player slot.
Fireflies will no longer decrease while the escape menu is open.
Patch Notes - 7/24/2017
Hello everyone! This is just a quick update with some bug fixes, polishing, and a graphical update that should help the movement of the game.
Bug Fixes
Fixed a bug where activating an obelisk twice in the same room would cause slanted tiles to create impassable barriers.
Fixed a bug where the visual tutorial would sometimes display in rooms past the tutorial area.
Fixed a bug where the notes in the hidden rooms wouldn't close after leaving the hidden room.
Fixed a bug where walking up slants could trigger a wall hang.
Feature Changes
Rooms now move with the player! Consequently, some of the rooms have been altered to support this effect.
Collision detection has been improved and should better account for falls and wall sliding.
Patch Notes - 7/19/2017
Hello everyone! The development of Shadows is coming to a close -- there's only a month left now until its release! This update was focused on polishing some of the more antiquated aspects of the game, notably the tutorial which hadn't been revised for months.
Bug Fixes
Fixed a bug where the final memory in the beacon room would take the player to the alternative ending memory instead.
Fixed a bug where an unintended sound effect would play during the first memory.
Fixed a bug where the player would not display a stopped animation when colliding with a wall.
Fixed a bug where the player could hover a few pixels above the ground after double jumping.
Fixed a bug where players could drag boulders into walls.
Feature Changes
Added a sound effect for dragging boulders.
A "Press E" indicator will now appear while standing on boulders but not pressing E.
After each memory, the character's understanding of the memory will appear at the bottom of the screen.
Updated the tutorial! The old text option is still available in-game, but when starting a new slot a visual tutorial will guide you through the first several cavern rooms.
Softened the edges of the runes so that they blend more into the obelisks.
Added dandelion spores that rise from the grass for aesthetic in the Far East Tunnels.

Hello everyone! Looks like there were a few unforeseen consequences of the last patch's changes which have now been resolved.
Bug Fixes
Fixed a bug where upon returning to a room where the guide was, it would appear in the upper right hand corner of the screen.
Fixed a bug where the guide would not oscillate up and down for effect.
Fixed a bug where the guide would not appear if a room in order was skipped.
Fixed a bug where the opening cutscene would start players in the wrong room.
Patch Notes - 7/8/2017
Hello everyone! A couple of weeks ago, I made the decision to redesign the story of Shadows to reflect a theme that has touched not only my life but those of almost everyone in the world. The first two cutscenes have been redone, the order of the memories in the caverns has altered, and a tutorial light has been added to guide the player to the first memory when starting a new game.
Bug Fixes
Fixed a bug where sometimes after leaving a memory, the game would not return to the level from where the player entered the memory.
Fixed a bug where text wouldn't appear for the fourth memory.
Feature Changes
The story of Shadows has been rewritten! Memories have been changed and their order in the caves now follows a linear plot.
A blinking light has been added as part of the tutorial to guide players to the first memory.
