Shakes on a Plane

Short December progress update!

Shakes on a plane is making good progress: we have just about finished all the raw level content, and are now adding "secondary mechanics" such as alien passengers and ragdolls to the game. Currently with the alien passengers bugging out the cabin looks like a scene from The Thing (hmmh... there's an idea...)

Scary, isn't it?

Of course the level content needs much more testing and balancing, and we are hoping to start closed alpha testing soon. The challenge is to design and balance the levels so that they will support varied amount of players. For this, we have a mechanism in place that adjust the difficulty per player count: this includes tweaking things like order frequency, turbulence alarm time etc. What we don't want to do is to alter the level itself per player count, and so far it seems we don't have to.

Other huge area we are making progress in are the cinematics. I'd say we have more to show on that front soon.

New Visual Style!

Tadaa! Back from the closet. We just updated all the screenshots and trailers with our new graphical style: 60's googie mixed with this and that.

However, the new graphical style is not all we have been doing! The game has taken huges leaps forward during the summer: we now have about 66.7% off the level content in beta stage.

Then the bad news... I would say that 2019 release at this point would be stretching it. But now when we have come out of hiding again, I'll keep updating you more often on our progress! Practically all the game mechanics are in, now is the time to do some more levels and polish polish polish...

Let's make a 180

Hello!

We have been a bit of a stealth mode lately, and with a good reason: after gathering feedback on our initial trailer release, we found out that our style is maybe a bit too much "mobilish" - people thought Shakes is a iOS game!

To rectify, we decided to redo the artstyle and create a stronger narrative for the game! Gameplay itself is fine, and I'm happy to tell you we are nearing 15 finished levels.

So we have been hard at work. In fact, I can give you a little sneak peak:

The new style: comical 60's googie.

More to come soon!

Shake it baby!

Happy new year!

While you have been on holidays, Shakes team has been hard at work. It sure helps not having friends, family or life!

Here's a gif of a milkshake machine we have been working on. Just place some fresh ingredients on the pads, hit start and you'll have a milkshake in no time! There's also some toppings machines to go with it. You can have a ton of different flavours, such as strawberry-banana, blueberry-banana and passenger-knife.

... We might want to disable the option to stuff passengers and random items to the machine though.

Upcoming stuff

If we wouldn't have shakes on the airplane menu we would be kind of failing our premise. That's why we have been hard at work implementing just that. Here's a sneak peek of some of the drinks you can make using a special machine. The idea is you stuff different ingredients in, press a button and the delicious shake will be ready in no time.

There are also toying with the idea of stuffing what ever in the machine and see what comes out. So how about a strawberry-hamburger shake? Or banana-barfbag soft drink?

In a larger scale, our aim to finish all the key mechanics of the game by Christmas. Rest assured, we have plenty of interesting things planned and they go well beyond cooking and preparing drinks! We will probably have plenty of interesting things to show after the holidays.

Well... at least we didn't name it "Overbooked"

Please check out the Steam page to find out what the game is about. We'll add details and updates here regularly, and would love to hear your ideas and feedback. We are still in early alpha development but the progress is good.

I added a concept shot about a minor mechanic I will be implementing next week...
