Shape Shift Shawn: Episode 1 - Tale of the Transmogrified

Version 1.2.0

Shape Shift Shawn Episode 1 is back with a new patch! Here's some of the new things you can expect to experience in Version 1.2.0...

  • Multi-lingual menus! While we haven't translated all the text in the game yet, you can now read the game's interface in Spanish, French, Italian, or German.
  • Huge improvements to the game's texture management system. Levels should load MUCH faster!
  • Sticky Shawn can now shoot downwards into the slimed surface he's currently stuck to, which should make areas that rely on slimed surfaces easier to navigate!
  • Improved how Shawn's "Sticky Spitfire" transformation performs during boss battles - regular attacks do more damage now!
  • Added more thorough support for D-pad control on gamepads.
  • Fixed an intermittent bug with Stretchy Shawn not being able to jump correctly while walking on sloped ground.
  • Fixed some bugs with how Strong Shawn destroys level tiles.
  • Fixed some bugs with the text bubble's character printer.

Version 1.1.0

Version 1.1.0 of Shape Shift Shawn Episode 1 is here! While the game's content is largely unchanged, we've done some extensive deep-cleaning of the game's code in preparation for using it to make Episode 2. We've fixed a LOT of bugs and added a lot of small-ish features that we simply ran out of time to put in before the game's original release date last November. Here are the highlights of what's in the new build...

  • For the game's hidden "retro handheld" mode, almost all of the in-game HUD now gets redrawn with proper retro art inside the smaller handheld screen.
  • Game now properly pauses if the controller is unplugged or the Steam Overlay menu is opened
  • Added some missing sound effects, particularly for Shawn's boss forms
  • Improved a variety of collision bugs
  • Several improvements to Sticky Shawn's logic for sliming and sticking to surfaces
  • Improved the size & position of the sprites shown in the pause menu's Monster Encyclopedia
  • Fixed a small texture loading hiccup on the map screen
  • Fixed some bugs with how the hidden cartridge items were counted in the game's HUD
  • Secret levels are now properly sorted in the pause menu's Level Stats submenu
  • Fixed a bug causing Sharklops enemies to get stuck in walls / jitter
  • Cleaned up various level texture maps
  • Improved particle layering during cutscenes
  • Did anyone notice that Shawn's thumb was on the wrong side of his hand in the title screen? No? Good, 'cause we fixed that too.

Version 1.0.3

Version 1.0.3 of Shape Shift Shawn Episode 1 is out! We've fixed a lot of small programming bugs and cleaned up a lot of visuals for this patch...

  • Fixed a bug that was preventing the Sticky Shawn achievement on Steam from being triggered.
  • Added additional narrator text to the finale cutscene to better explain what's going on
  • Fixed some problems with Spikurn behavior (in particular, playing too many loud buzzsaw sounds if there are multiple Spikurn enemies moving at once)
  • Fixed a bug related to blowing away Heliphant enemies
  • Fixed a screen-smearing issue that could occur when changing the game between bigger and smaller screen resolutions
  • Performed minor cleanup for level tile appearance on a variety of levels
  • Fixed a variety of bugs related to Rump-a-stump's shop and the map screen inventory
  • Added UI to indicate when the player has larger Mutie pouches equipped during a level

Episode 1 Delayed to November 19th

Hey everyone!

Unfortunately, we're going to have to push the release date for Shape Shift Shawn Episode 1 back a couple of weeks, to November the 19th.

While it would have been cool to release our Halloween-themed game on Halloween itself, we simply don't have enough time to complete it by the end of October, and we want the game to be as good as possible at release time. Rest assured we'll use the additional time to give Episode 1 the extra amount of polish and care that it deserves.

In the meantime, here are some exciting new screenshots to tide you over!

See you all in November!
