Version 2.1.2 Update is Now Live!
Heya Planeteers! We're happy to report we've fixed a few bugs and clarified a few things.
Thanks to those of you who came by our PAX Prime booth as part of the Indie MegaBooth -- it's always great to meet you! We'll hope to also be in PAX East next year, so wish us luck.
Apologies to those of you who were searching for the Turret companion -- it never made it into the game (it was missing a bunch of animations and had a lot of bugs), and shouldn't have been in your datalog. So we've removed it from the Datalog. Similarly, the question-mark 6th head for each character class has been removed from the Clone Vats.
We may still implement the Turret and/or 6th heads, but until then, there's no sense having misleading information in there. So in the meantime, enjoy your 100%s!
Moon Hunters is a very different game from Shattered Planet (it's 1-4 player, it's an action RPG, it's fantasy, it's pixel art), but we love our two children equally and hope they play well together.
We've achieved most of our favorite stretch goals, including Steam online co-op, a PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita version, a new character class, an art book, a cooking system, a familiars system, and new factions. With only a few days left, we're hoping to reach another character class, the evil(?) Sun Cultist.
Thanks to all the players for making Kitfox Games possible!
New class abilities and upgrades!
First, to everyone who we saw at PAX Prime and Boston Festival of Indie Games, you rock! Thanks for stopping by!
With the update we JUST NOW pushed live, each class now not only has a unique passive ability, but also an active ability:
Renegade ability: Activate to gain Strength for 5 turns
Assassin ability: Activate to gain Stealth for 30 turns
Robot ability: Activate to send an item back to the ship(!) (costs Scrap)
Emissary ability: Activate to gain Fate for 5 turns
Exile ability: Activate to heal self AND pet
By default, you can only use a class ability once per run. However, you can spend Scrap to permanently upgrade a class ability, either by making the base ability more powerful, or to add extra 'charges' to the ability, allowing you to use it up to 5 times per run.
If you were subscribed to the Shattered Planet newsletter, you probably already knew all of this! Plus you got a screenshot preview. Nice.
We're looking forward to hearing your feedback on the balance of the abilities, so let us know what you think! Please!
P.S.
There's only 7 days remaining on the Moon Hunters Kickstarter! Maybe check it out if you're into mythology, pixel art, or RPGs?
Shattered Planet Giveaway!
In 20 minutes (so 9pm EST), Artistry in Games is streaming Shattered Planet and giving away free keys!
A few of you stopped by the PAX booth last week and collected a high-five from Tanya or Jongwoo. Thank you so much!
If you're in the Boston area this weekend, come to MIT to see the Boston Festival of Indie Games! You can collect your very own dev high-five, plus ask whatever you want about Moon Hunters and get a free backer hug!
We're still working diligently on the class upgrades, with active abilities and all, plus a couple of bugs/exploits found. We're hoping to patch it out later this week or early next week.
Thanks for playing!
Tanya & the Kitfoxes
Class update: New powers!
We've been quiet, but today we updated each class to have new, more interesting powers!
The new abilities are:
<*>Assassin: All guns gain +2 range and +50% damage
<*>Renegade: +2 Defense
<*>Robot: 75% discount on Scrapobot 5000 purchases. Also opens locked doors without a key.
<*>Exile: +50% Companion health
And the Diplomat (+10 Fate) is unchanged. We're working on a "deeper" system for the classes as well, with upgrades and active abilities in the coming weeks and months!
Also, today we fixed a few achievements that weren't activating -- unfortunately, if you qualified for them previously, you'll have to earn them again. Respectively, and mind the spoilers:
Man o' Peace: have a jellyfish companion
Shellshocked: visit the level with bombs all over it
Viva La Revolucion: submit to an alien worm in a choice event
Gotta Catch Em All: hatch an egg in a choice event
Finally, the Conqueror achievement will now trigger if you successfully complete the Daily Challenge mode.
Have a great weekend, everyone!
Survey Results: Deeper Classes Incoming! (& patch notes for 2.0.7)
Our community poll had 100+ responses and the results were:
1st place (36%): Stronger class buffs/abilities
2nd place (31%): Pet upgrading system
3rd place (12%): Keyboard controls
So now we have our work cut out for us! We'll be making the classes more interesting to switch between -- look for a biggish update in the coming weeks!
Also, we just updated this morning (2.0.7), fixing the lingering buffs after the daily challenge, and making robots less perceptive.
