Fish & Ships update and Water Garden Duo DLC out now!

Developer Dan here to celebrate the official release of Ship of Fools’ brand new content update: Fish & Ships! Aaaaandd (drumroll) … the release of our brand new pack of Fools: the Water Garden Duo! Watch this trailer!

This new update brings a ton to the archipelago! Let’s go over some of the most notable new features.

Give the curious bell a jingle to meet your new gooey and tentacley best friend Otto, a shipwright with enough tools to repair your ships, but most importantly, mend the wounds of your broken heart.

You’ll first be introduced to Otto when you have beaten Tentacles twice or if you’ve completed a run at least once. Unlike his other fellow Krakens, Otto is more passionate about ship construction rather than their destruction.

The process is simple: after unlocking a new ship, interact with Otto using your character's secondary action to access the shipwright menu. From there, you have the freedom to switch between any unlocked ships at will. You can also monitor your progress towards unlocking new ships and achieving the brightness challenges for each one. I'm curious about the outcome when reaching brightness level 15 with a ship … I wonder what awaits?

Each ship grants access to 2 unique items, allowing you to craft run strategies with a refreshing sea breeze. To activate their abilities, every ship's unique artifact utilizes Tendrils.

Speaking of new ships, here is one of them! Meet the Siren’s Call, a vessel carved by the legendary Sirens from the same rocks that constitute their magical artifacts. With the Siren’s Call, you’ll have one less pedestal on deck, but have access to a miniature version of the recycling well to optimize your builds on the go!

The Well
Insert a tendril to activate, once active, insert any item to recycle it into another of the same type.

Siren Scale
While this ammunition inflicts minimal damage, it applies a random effect with each hit! To unleash its full potential, you’ll need to harness every possible elemental synergy.

Fish & Ships update release date & new fools announcement!

Hey Fools! Developer Dan here to bring you the good news you’ve been waiting for!

The wait is finally over! Mark your calendars for November 6th when the fresh out of the water FREE update Fish & Ships will be released on Steam! On the same day, we will also release our brand new pack of fools called Water Garden Duo! This update brings a lot of content to spice up your game, but also to increase the overall performance of the game. Notably, the loading times are significantly reduced.
In our previous announcements, we’ve talked a lot about the new ships, but how about the new fishes?

Here they are! Behold Mikoi the Koi-Pop Princess and Master Noh, the paddle of lightning. Watch in awe as both these Fools harnessed the special ability of overcharging their reflect action to perform unique and spectacular feats.

Mikoi the koi fish mesmerizes with its beautiful scales in sea minor… Mikoi’s powerful vocal prowess unleashes a devastating resonance blast that affects every enemy on screen, but also deals damage to the ship. Legend has it that when Mikoi joins your adventures, her melodic abilities extend to covering entire songs. I wonder if there is any truth to that claim…

Noh the cat fish has whiskers as pointed as a CAT-ana… Master Noh’s special ability allows him to travel at lightning speed to strike every enemy on its way.

The console update is also coming along the way a bit later in November. The console update will place versions on par with the same content on every platform.

Important announcement regarding pricing

We've got some important news to share with all of you, and we want to ensure you understand our decision's reasoning. At Fika, our commitment has always been to deliver the ultimate Ship of Fools experience, and we've poured our hearts and countless hours into achieving that goal. Over the past year, we've continuously released free content to make our game the best it can be.

Now, after careful consideration and extensive discussions, we've concluded that our game has evolved to a point where it deserves a price that truly reflects the dedication and hard work we've invested.

Starting from October 6th, we will be adjusting the price of Ship of Fools from $14.99 to $21.99 USD / €14.99 to €21.99. Regional equivalents and console pricing may vary.

We understand that change can be unsettling, especially for our early adopters who have been with us from the beginning. But please rest assured that we have your best interests at heart. We are committed to ensuring that you, our fans, are not impacted in any way by this price adjustment. The upcoming Fish and Ships update is still free of charge and to make this as smooth as possible, we’ve announced this in advance while the game is on sale, so you have the perfect opportunity to go and purchase Ship of Fools now if you haven’t yet or pick up a copy for a friend.

Fish & Ships SPOILER ALERT!

Now it’s time for some EXCITING news! Fish & Ships is around the corner, and Stormstrider’s time is over! Let me introduce you to the Wavehulk!

The Wavehulk is a masterpiece of engineering, and it’s the first new boat provided by Otto the shipwright. With its upgraded hull, you’ll be able to carry one additional cargo at the expense of a less optimized pedestal placement.

The Wavehulk comes equipped with 2 new unique items that synergize with each other and will shape many new run strategies.

The Foundry
The Foundry is a mystical device designed for converting trinkets into artifacts! Artifacts produced by The Foundry distribute the trinket’s power they hold to every player. Here's how it works:

Solo Play:

When playing solo, The Foundry will transform 1 trinket into 2 artifacts. This sorcery is stronger than any of Halga’s soups.
But keep in mind you need enough cargo space to place both artifacts on your pedestals.

Co-op Play:

In co-op mode, the Foundry operates slightly differently. It simply transforms one trinket into an artifact.
The exciting part here is that both players can enjoy the benefits of the trinket's power once it's transformed into an artifact.

So, whether sailing solo or with a crew, the Foundry is your go-to place for turning humble trinkets into mighty artifacts!

Metal Scraps
At first glance, metal scraps may not seem very impressive, but they can become quite powerful as you collect more artifacts for your boat! The Metal Scraps projectile gains an extra 2 damage for every artifact you have in play. So, the more artifacts you accumulate on your ship, the stronger those seemingly humble metal scraps become, packing a more significant punch!

Let’s see it in action!
Are you ready to get crazy! Here’s an example with a brand new trinket: Shuriken!

In the same way The Beacon on the Stormstrider is activated, you first need to power up The Foundry using a Tendril.

Once powered, take any trinket you want and place it inside The Foundry. Maybe some trinkets act differently once turned into artifacts… who knows?

TA-DA! See those artifacts? They carry the same power as the trinket, but in artifact form benefiting every player. As you can see, in this case, the player goes solo and turns one Shuriken trinket into 2 Shuriken artifacts, allowing them to shoot 2 additional projectiles with each shot! Since those trinkets are now artifacts, it also increases the Metal Scraps' power! PRETTY COOL RIGHT?

There is a loot collector in all of us, and this boat perfectly fills this primal need. Will you go all-in on artifact tiles and become richer than Briny? Or you'll aim to be the trinket duplication kingpin, filling your ship with more bling than a disco ball. And let's not forget, with that shiny metal coating, you'll hit the fashion peaks no one even knew existed! The Wavehulk is like a buffet of build possibilities, and trust us, you won't leave hungry for adventure!

Fish & Ships: a first look!

Hey Fools! Developer Dan is here to bring what you’ve all been waiting for: A first look at the new Fish & Ships update!

We’d originally planned to release Fish & Ships this month, but we’ve needed more time to bring everything together. We can tell you that we’re working through testing and console porting and will be releasing early November. We apologize for this delay and are doing everything we can to make sure you get your hands on this amazing new content as soon as possible. To help with the extended wait for the update, here’s a quick overview of what to expect!

This update not only introduces exciting new game content but also brings significant improvements in performance. We are thrilled to announce that we've made substantial enhancements in both the game's memory management and loading times, resulting in a smoother and more enjoyable gameplay experience!

First of all, in this new Ship of Fools chapter, you’ll notice an unusual-looking bell that seems to do nothing (at first) near the dock. You can still spam-ring it to tell your shipmate that their cannon selection time is over and it’s GO TIME!

You’ll then soon be introduced to your new gooey and tentacley best friend Otto!

Otto is a “Reverse Kraken”. And now I hear you say: “Ye scurvy dog! What in Neptune's name be that?" (I know you all start speaking like an old seafarer while playing Ship of fools). In fact, a reverse kraken does the opposite of what a regular kraken should! Instead of sinking ships, Otto builds some! Is he related to Tentacles Shadow of the Undergrowth? Who knows…

The new ships from Otto will not only look awesome, but will also introduce fresh new ways of playing the game. Each ship comes with its own unique ammunition, artifact and set of challenges that will drastically change decision making during a game. Otto will let you select the ship you want at the beginning of every run, if you’ve met the conditions for unlocking them. You’ll also have tons of new items to unlock while using each ship.

Alongside the Fish and Ships update, we will also be releasing the second Pack of Fools: The Water Garden Duo! We won’t be saying too much about them yet, but please start spreading theories and fake news on what their abilities could be.

The exact release date of this update will be announced in the upcoming weeks. This date will also see the release of the Water Garden Duo as well as a new “Aquapocalypse Edition” that includes all the DLC alongside the OST (OST available on Steam only).
