Patch Notes - Early Access Build 1.0.0

It has been a while since my last update and there is simply too much content that's been added, updated and fixed to list in this post.

I will be creating a new video in the near future covering all of the new mechanics and updates but here's a link to a recent video that I recorded two weeks ago to showcase at least some of the new content and the core gameplay loop:

Patch Notes - BETA - 0.1.0

ADDED


  • New UI/Menu system with 100% Gamepad support and on the fly changeability
  • All characters now have unique melee attacks (light, medium and heavy)
  • Variety of updates to flow of menus
  • New camera system! Camera has better hit detection, smoother snap back, automatic blend to forward direction, and more. Soft/hard lock on to target coming soon
  • NEW ABILITY - Block (right-click or LB)
  • NEW ABILITY - Dodge/Roll (V on Keyboard or B on gamepad while blocking)

Patch Notes - Pre-Release Build - 0.2a

ADDED


  • Upgraded the engine to UE5 (was previously 4.26)
  • Added many new enemy types; Lich, Crocodile, Wild Boar, Spider, Shark
  • New lobby map; the secret pirate cove (work in progress)
  • Improved combat; more accurate hits, bullet decals, critical hits, and mroe
  • New locations; overhauled the demo map, added a graveyard and a castle (this is all work in progress)
  • New game mode! (this very much in the works) Instead of collecting coins and running to a safe area before the time runs out, I have placed treasure chests on the island and the players must deposit their coins at any point during a round. Once deposited they are saved to the player's account
  • OFFLINE MODE! A little more testing is required but offline mode is now working quite well. When the system detects no internet connection it will switch to an offline save. The player may still play and will continue with progress from the last online save but will not carry forward the next time the player is connected to the internet. More QoL features will soon follow.
  • There are much more additions and too many to list in this update. I will try to post a video covering everything in more detail soon

ADDED

- add scoreboard during rounds (press L to open)
- added new AI behaviours including neutral and end of round responses

FIXED

- fixed several AI behaviours and improved their responses to certain actions such as low health, etc

KNOWN BUGS

- purcashing character on client not updating character menu
- scoreboard on client not displaying names
- scoreboard on client not displaying bots
- client deaths on server scoreboard not correct when returning to lobby
- client respawn returning incorrect character

Patch Notes - Pre-Release Build - 0.12c

ADDED

- new controls for the cannon, you can now right-click/left trigger to freely control the cannon
- XP/Levelling system!! you can now level up your character by earning XP
- when loading the game for the first time, the player is forced to choose one of the free pirate characters. More functionality built around this new player system coming soon
- implemented a new system for loading characters, joining a game should load character data faster

FIXED

- fix various audio bugs
- various minor bug fixes

KNOWN ISSUES

- when levelling up there is currently no level-up animation (coming very soon)
- also when levelling up the XP hud element has a visual bug until more XP is added
- XP and level not updating on character page during a match, a refresh system is in the works.

ADDED
- added new character purchasing system! With this now live you can unlock additional playable characters with the treasure you earn in the game! Additional features are slowly being added which are built around this new system such as XP, Levels, and customization.
- new menu design. The controls menu now dynamically loads controls and it built around a custom database which will allow for input remapping (currently in the works).
- major visual refactor! additional stylization has been added by utilizing an outline system. Initial tests revealed that it was originally too strong of an effect but after toning it down the effect has been very well received and really ties everything together nicely.

UPDATES
- fixed audio and display settings bugs where the current value was not being displayed when opened for the first time
- various minor improvements and bug fixes

ADDED
- added functionality to the cannons (raise and lower by standing to the sides, fire it by standing behind it)
- added chickens that...sometimes fire out of the cannons

UPDATES
- expanded the interaction by adding a camera trace. Interaction based on volumes still exist and will select the appropriate interaction based on proximity and camera target
- fixed some sound effects overloading the audio player
- fixed a bunch of other minor bugs

ADDED
- special/heavy attacks are now fully functional!
- spawning and re-spawning now starts out in a barrel, after time has passed the player's character blasts out of the barrel
- new popup on HUD appears when round starts indicating the objective of the game

UPDATES
- many minor updates were also implemented as well as various bug fixes

- added a new weapon and ability HUD!

UPDATED
- switching weapons now remember your last choice when you're equipping and unequipping. It no long equips the gun every time you unequip then run the equip input.
