[New build - EXPERIMENTAL] 21w29a: Custom Docking Port

It is now possible to create custom docking port made out of several smaller Docking Connector.

To do so:

  • Link a Docking Config Gate to all the Docking Connectors of the custom design
  • Inside the Config Gate toggle the "Composite Mode" flag to "Merge Docks".
  • Assign a Tag if necessary, in case several different are being used.


Other changes:

  • A Faction tag has been added to the Codex Entity.
  • Station Module type setting is now at the level of Codex Entity.
  • Station spawn algorithm has been improved with better module collision check.
  • Station starter block is removed. A new way to test stations design will be introduced.


Upcoming changes:

  • The current cylindrical docking port will be removed.
  • A new ship friendly universal port will be introduced.
  • An iris door design will be introduced.
  • Community Suggestion:
  • #3672 Pipe can clip through girder.


Bugfixes:

  • #3711 Windows Arch incorrect size preview.
  • #4012 Teleport menu not showing text.
  • #3669 Fuel tank mass scales incorrectly.

[New build - EXPERIMENTAL] 21w28a: Docking Port and sub-modules

This build introduce the new docking port and a new Docking Controller allowing you to spawn decorative prefabs in a random fashion.
Check out the upcoming post to learn more about the new docking philosophy.

Docking New Features

  • New Docking Connector brick. It can grid-resize.
  • New Docking Controller brick.
  • Configure "spawning sub-modules" inside the controller.
  • Add tags to be spawned with a given weight for the randomized draw.
  • Any entity with a docking module can be used as a sub-module, to be configured inside the codex entity windows.


Still to do:

  • Connector size check for spawn
  • Station Module docking uses new docking port.
  • Kiosks spawning for stations
  • Spaceship universal docking port.


Also new due to popular request:

  • Chain link: simply holding Left-SHIFT during a link action will hold-on to the current link.
  • Box delete tool: select a volume like with the copy/paste. Then right click to delete the selection.
  • F3 Option: disable NPC spawn
  • F3 Option: peaceful NPCs mode.
  • Bugfixes:

There have been some save issue on mechanism that were edited in the last update.

New custom Prefab feature and Copy / Paste improvements!

A new prefab mechanism has been introduced in build 21w26a in experimental.
It improves the current copy/paste tool and add the possibility to export the clipboard and share it on the workshop.
Then each "prefab" can be re-used later on, and be built as if it where a brick!

WARNING => with this feature it becomes extremely easy to put a lot of detail into a build.
The engine cant deal with an infinite amount of bricks.
Use it with caution, you are responsible for the negative performance of your designs!

  • Copy/paste saves command state
  • Copy/paste saves link assigned to brick from the clipboard

  • New Prefab tab in the codex: it will display previously saved / subscribed prefabs.
  • Prefab tab: drag and drop prefab like an item
  • Prefab: build prefab like a clipboard.


Still wip:

  • Item bar dont restore prefab.
  • Prefab category (turret / landing gear).
  • Prefab preview and description.






[New build - EXPERIMENTAL] 21w24a: RGB controller gate

A new RGB controller gate has been added to the brick roaster.
Use it to control the color and brightness over time on light and glow bricks.

Feature:

  • Up to 4 colors
  • duration tweak
  • gain tweak: a higher gain will spend more time on the color and less inside transition.
  • Loop or Ping pong.
  • You can set the controller to be active or not with a simple switch.
  • For now colors are RGB input, but a color wheel will be added.


This build also introduced some big change on the command system behind the scene.
This allows leveraging on the new data-oriented performance stack and will be used extensively in upcoming updates.

[New build - EXPERIMENTAL] 21w23a: Build Option Menu

This build introduces the new Build Option menu. Activate it with F1.
The goal is to provide more flexibility for power user, be easily discoverable to newer player and limit the explosion of keybinds.
You will be able to tweak a few options mainly relative to the new grid logic:

  • Min and Max grid: allow a faster grid cycling through when you know you wont need to go over or under a particular size.
  • Sub grid for placement: Pick a finer grid to position a brick. This also means that system no longer have a finer placement grid.
  • Global vs Local grid: this replaces the G keybind.
  • Tweak glow color: you can now toggle off the glow color tweak if you want a precise glow color.


New Features:

  • Stations turrets are now functional: You will need to activate first the turret targeting function inside the Station Computer.


Bugfixes:

  • #3860 Game breaks on Quit To Title
