Heatwave Event

Hi Slappers!

As summer is fast approaching, we're excited to announce the Slapshot Heatwave event, sponsored by f'real!
The event will take place during the months of June and July, here's what's happening:

- Players in the US will see f'real, the sponsor of this event, on the ice, in their locker room and during replays
- Everyone that uses the code F'REAL in the in-game shop during the event will receive a free exclusive Milkshake Hat cosmetic
- During the event, in-game currency gained is increased by 50% and stacks with other boosts such as premium
- We'll be running Heatwave tournaments in July, through SPL in North America (300 USD), OSL in Oceania (200 AUD) and Team Serene in Europe (300 EUR).
- Frequent giveaways will be held all throughout the event in our Discord for in-game items and currency

As with other in-game sponsors in the past, we will ensure that gameplay is not obstructed and adds value to the arenas.

Ranked Roadmap

Hey Slappers,

We've created a more comprehensible roadmap on where we are and what's left to do to release ranked.

There's a lot more completed things that influence ranked but listing them all would be a waste of space so I've opted to list the 3 most important ones. We're happy to listen to your feedback on the ones that are in researching or if you'd like to see something different for the features that are in progress/planned.

Lobby moderation, controller sensitivity, achievement fixes,.. (v0.61.0)

NEW


- The lobby owner in custom games can now kick players and move them to a team/spectators
- Added a sensitivity slider for controller, with default being what it was before the update (maximum)
- Added more of the new spectators, with a new setting so you can choose the density (how many you want)
-- The spectators on/off setting has been reset to migrate to the new density setting

Cosmetics


- Added a fish bowl head cosmetic, a unibrow, twig, oil splat

Fixes


- Fixed the tutorial not completely working when not connected to the Slapshot Services
- Fixed the 'anyone there' achievement queue time counter
- Fixed the 'lead by example' achievement, if you are muted it now properly resets your progress
- Fixed UI sizes for people with wider screens, the scaling now follows a screen's height rather than width
- Fixed several game crashes related to IL2CPP and some third party libraries

Other


- As mentioned, we've dropped Nolt in favor of a channel in Discord. This is now reflected in links in the game as well.
- The clubs system for esports broadcasters now supports a "key", which can be used to have multiple settings for the same team and still using the same acronyms.
-- "key" would replace acronym in how you select the clubs through the command
-- If no key is present, it uses the acronym as a fallback so configs made before this are backwards compatible
- Prepared the game for an event starting June 1st. Stay tuned for that announcement!

Bunch of new achievements!!

Smol update! We quadrupled the amount of achievements in the game based on your suggestions 😄

Also fixed achievement progress that counted in places it shouldn't and fixed quick chat activating while typing in chat

These aren't too difficult to get but we wanted a better baseline of achievements before getting to the more difficult ones 🏒

We finally fixed that one puck physics bug


It no longer goes on its side for prolonged periods of time like it has a mind of its own.
Fixing this bug has probably taken at least 3 years off my life expectancy.

Club override for livestreamers


Since we broke mods with the last update, I've decided to implement the functionality of a mod that was vital to esports livestreams. You can now use the 'clubs' command in the developer console (tilde) to change the color, name, logo and goal horns of different clubs. These can be customised in the game's data folder -> Slapshot_Data -> StreamableAssets -> clubs.json

The in-game scorebug will now automatically pick a contrasting color for the team name and score colors so they are visible at all times for each team independently.

API improvement


Added a region filter and more specifics to the matchmaking / queue information to the API. More details are in the documentation. Want access? Create a ticket in the #help channel in our Discord.

- Spectators are more alive! They have been completely reworked from scratch for all arenas.

Matchmaking


- Addressed the volatility of the rating algorithm, making the placement matches not last as long and have more consistency.

Optimization


- Improved the performance of all arenas by quite a bit
- Optimized the player and goals, refactored and cleaned up a bunch of game logic
- Moved from Mono to C++ compilation (Note: This breaks current mods. Google 'IL2CPP modding' to find out how to fix them)

Bots


- Bots will now use the brake when getting bumped
- Significant improvements have been made to goalkeeping
- They will now challenge more aggressively in line with feedback
- Bots will no longer stop playing if the puck is on the line but not in yet
- Fixed some jittery movement with bots carrying the puck over longer distances
- Bots will now be more aware of their stick placement when they don't have possession

Cosmetics


- Added white variants of the rebound and Patreon hats (both normal and backwards)
- Added flame stick, techno stick, carbon slinger stick

Fixes


- Fixed goalie practice not spawning you at the net
- Fixed UI scaling with resolution (4K etc should play a lot better now)
- Fixed the 'no' button in the quit menu on keyboard and mouse input overlapping the yes button a bit
- Fixed some shadow issues in the main menu

New rating system (v0.59.2)

New rating system


We've recreated the rating system from scratch based on feedback on the previous system.
It now does not punish you as much for losing if you have teammates that are rated lower and does not reward you as much for getting carried.
The new Slapshot Rating system is now based on a different algorithm that I have modified to work for team based games. (Glicko2 instead of TrueSkill).

We opted for a full reset because the system will place you in an appropriate skill bracket within the first 5 - 10 matches (much like placement matches).
It will also give us proper insight into the bell curve of the new rating system to assign ranks to them.

Cosmetics


- Made fixes to the sword stick and bone stick
- Added some dumb ass golden grills because Eli's been asking for them for a fucking year
- Added a bunch of new mouths and eyes, a flame stick and stripes jersey

Other


- Controller navigation in menus now produces our super dank navigation sounds

Reworked leave penalties


The leave penalties has been turned into a strike system. When you leave a match, you will receive a strike that expires in 5 minutes. If you leave another match while you have a strike against you, you will receive a 5 minute matchmaking ban.

Fixed several bugs with the penalties:
- Match cancelations will no longer incur a penalty
- Leaving custom games will no longer trigger penalties

More custom game options


- Added a gravity setting
- Added a game speed setting
- Added a head bounciness setting

Increased amount of available presets


Premium users can now have up to 10 presets instead of 5.

Added a volume slider specifically for the new time warning sound


Some players didn't like it very much or thought it was too loud. The new slider can be found in audio settings.

Fixed cosmetic images rendering out of order in appearance and shop


Updating our Unity version caused it to shit itself. Fixed it with some performance improvements!
