Features List

Dynamic Weather System
A dynamic weather system has been added that can produce a variety of weather patterns in a zone at varying levels of intensity, even combining with others to create turbulent storms across Rainbow Island. Weather patterns can be tracked via the map.

Please note that dynamic weather only begins after two in-game days have passed and in zones that have already been explored. This means that a fresh save file will potentially see weather on day 3 in a zone already visited once before, and existing saves must have two more in-game days pass after receiving the update before weather patterns will form.

Weather Patterns include:

  • Wind, with varying levels of intensity, culminating in a windstorm that can stir up whirling cyclones, and features a unique musical score.
  • Rain, with varying levels of intensity, culminating in a rainstorm that can create puddles and waterfalls, and features a unique musical score.
  • Thunder, with varying levels of intensity, culminating in a thunderstorm that can cause lightning bolts to rain down from above, and features a unique musical score. Thunderstorms often occur during rainstorms, but not exclusively.
  • Pollen, with varying levels of intensity, culminating in the growth of creeping vines in the area, and features a unique musical score.
  • Snow, which remains exclusive to Powderfall Bluffs, where the unnaturally cold climate can support it.
  • And finally, Slimefall. Wait, Slimefall? Oh no…

"Come Rain or Slime" Update Coming November 14th

A storm is headed your way! Our next content update "Come Rain or Slime" officially drops on November 14th. Expect to see our new, dynamic weather system, and the return of fan favorites the Tangle and Dervish Slimes!

We'll be sharing more details and patch notes on the day of release. See you soon, Ranchers!

Come Rain or Slime

Prior to the release of Song of the Sabers we spoke about our plans to introduce new systems to shake up the core Slime Rancher gameplay and today we’d like to walk through what you can expect in our next two major updates that we currently have in development.

Our goal with every Slime Rancher 2 update is to surprise and delight fans, but always make sure it still feels like the Slime Rancher you know and love. So with our next update, we’ll be introducing a dynamic weather system to Rainbow Island. This is a feature we’ve dreamed about since our earliest days developing the original Slime Rancher, so we’re thrilled to finally make it a reality. You can look forward to our new weather system in Content Update 2 this fall.

Players spend a lot of time exploring the open world in Slime Rancher 2, and our dynamic weather system will add a lot more variety to the experience and make Rainbow Island feel more alive. Rain, wind, pollen, and thunderstorms will move across the island and make some adventures trickier than before, or perhaps give you a chance to snag a Tangle or Dervish Slime who make their triumphant return in this update.

But we also feel like this weather system accentuates a particular style of play we see a lot in Slime Rancher: simply being in the world and taking in its beauty. Because for all the silliness in its premise, and the chaos that comes from wrangling slimes, we believe Slime Rancher often delivers moments of calm, where nothing much is meant to happen–save for you unwinding after a long day. And it’s in these quiet moments that a gentle rain along the coastline, or crisp breeze rolling through the Rainbow Fields, takes on new meaning.

We’re excited for you to splash in puddles with your favorite slimes on a dreary day, nimbly dodge lightning bolts from a surprise storm, or simply sit and listen to the sound of the wind as you think about what to do next.

Following the weather update, we’ll be enhancing the gadget system in Slime Rancher 2. Releasing early next year, Content Update 3 will allow players to place gadgets nearly anywhere in the world. Gadget sites are no more, and with this change comes a whole new way to build out and customize your world. You can now use deco to truly transform the Conservatory, turn the Rainbow Fields into a public park for your slimes, or just focus on making your whole operation more efficient with warp tech.

The possibilities of placing gadgets anywhere are endless, and since it’s Slime Rancher, we wanted to ensure that it could be endlessly silly as well. That’s why we’ll be introducing brand new gadgets that take advantage of this enhanced system and allow players to build slime-launching contraptions with cannons, carnival rides for your slimes to enjoy, and other highly scientific, definitely very important and strictly educational things.

We can’t wait to see the contraptions you cook up and all the very silly, but also very scientific videos you’ll create.

As always, our commitment to quality updates are married to the health and sustainability of our team. We thank you for your continued support and patience. We hope, as updates roll out, our work will continue to delight and spark a sense of wonder in you. See you on Rainbow Island soon!

Song of the Sabers - Patch 0.2.0

The first major content update for Slime Rancher 2 has arrived! Discover Powderfall Bluffs, a mysterious, glacial island off the coast of Ember Valley. As if it were a giant, icy time capsule, you’ll find a thriving community of prehistoric Saber Slimes and Thundercluck chickens within, as well as strange, auroral anomalies, a treasure trove of new resources, and more!

Song of the Sabers Features Overview

Explore a New Biome

Powderfall Bluffs is a prehistoric frozen island that has mysteriously emerged from the Slime Sea. It’s an icy biome unlike anything ever seen in Slime Rancher, but you’ll need to find it first before enjoying this winter wonderland. Here’s a hint: the entrance to it is located somewhere in Ember Valley…

Wrangle New Slimes

This snowy sanctuary is home to Saber Slimes—a ferocious blast from the past! And this update also includes a new, RARE slime, but we don’t want to make it overly easy for you to find it so that’s all the info you’re getting from us…

Source New Food

Prehistoric Thundercluck chickens roam among the snowdrifts. They’re scary looking! But they just look like dinner to a Saber Slime.

Gather New Resources

Powderfall Bluffs offers many new precious resources from its frigid peaks including impossibly Perfect Snowflakes, rare Sun Sap, and adorable Slime Fossils.

Build New Gadgets

Start an icy dust-up anywhere with the Snowball Machine or put other handy gadgets to use like the Hydro Shower, Location Markers, and new Warp Tech.

Craft Wintery Deco

Craft a giant snowflake just because you can, or a snow globe that plays music to really set the mood, as well as golden slime and chicken statues and earn the admiration (or at least curiosity) of your fellow ranchers.

Walk Upon Auroral Anomalies

Phantom-like flora gleam throughout the landscape and nightfall illuminates bridges that allow you to reach new heights along the icy mountains—but act fast before they vanish with the dawn.

Snowball Fights

Slimes love to play in the snow and won’t hesitate to engage in a snowball fight with you and other slimes!

Following this update, Monomi Park will be developing new features that build upon the core activities and game systems of Slime Rancher, allowing you to experience Rainbow Island in new ways. We’re excited about this set of features that we think will wiggle, jiggle, and shake up the Slime Rancher formula.

Further out, Beatrix’s adventure will finally take her into the massive and mysterious Grey Labyrinth that blocks her progress across the furthest reaches of the island. And though its purpose and history remain unknown, it's clear that the key to unlocking the secrets of Rainbow Island lies beyond its walls.
