Out of Early Access, Yet no new content

I'm sorry to all those who are a fan of this game, and have been eagerly awaiting updates.

Unfortunately, development of smasher has been put on indefinite hiatus.

Why has development taken so long?

I am largely a solo developer. I have some people to help with bug testing, and some who have given me concept ideas, but the lion's share of the asset creation, level design, programming, marketing, etc, was done by one person, myself. When I have motivation, development comes super quickly, but especially of late, my (lack of) motivation to work on Smasher has made working on it nearly impossible.

When the game first came out, I had a lot of passion for it, and had many ideas to implement, but life got in the way, and my desire to work on it continued to dwindle further and further. Every time I returned to try and work on it, I had to relearn my terrible spaghetti code, and bash my head against the fact that developing levels for it has always been an enormous slog.

And I will be forthcoming and say that money has also been a big factor. Between rent, the rising cost of goods, the cost of moving, and various unforeseen expenses, money has been extremely tight. I had to face the fact that a few extra levels added to a game released over a year ago will not generate enough revenue to justify the time spent on it.

So what now?

For now, development has entirely stopped on Smasher, and I've taken it out of early access, as to not be misleading with the promise of more content. I have also reduced the price to 2.99. Likewise, this does not mean that I will entirely abandon Smasher ,I will be doing my best to keep up with bug fixing, and may one day continue development. But for now, I will be focusing on other projects, including several games that I have already begun working on.

Thank you for your continued support, and apologies for not fulfilling my promises

1.1.6 Tiny Update

  • Finally fixed the missing skin issue. It only took so long cause I'm ashamed that it was the only thing changed. and nothing more substantial
  • Made map labels more accurate. Sorry.

1.1.5 (Small bugfix)

Hello! Very micro update today that I should have done months and months ago, I'm extremely sorry it's taken me this long to get to these!

Take this not as 'I've been working for months on these small things and I'm insanely unproductive' but rather that I have been focused on other aspects of my life and am just now dipping my toes back into working on the game.

Change-log:

  • Fixed the issue with pre-existing conveyors pushing the wrong direction
  • Fixed the iissue where some moving ojects were invisible
  • Increased the size of custom levels
  • Added an indication for when hovering over a specific object in the level editor

General Status Update

Hello, CreatureUnknown here!

I wanted to let you all know that I haven't forgotten about Smasher or abandoned it, I just underestimated how busy my life would be for such an extended period of time. I wanted to give some explanations and let you know my current situation and development plan.

The original plan and life situation: I worked on the level editor to get it released ASAP, I didn't quite get it done before school started up, but I did finish the update shortly after.

I was originally going to graduate from university in December, and resume development after graduation. However, due to a misunderstanding in my plan of study, I needed to attend for an additional term.

I thought that I would be less busy than I was the previous term due to a lighter course-load and lack of prep needed for some really important exams. I was wrong, but also extra busy due to factors that will be discussed shortly.

My current term of school ends in mid-March, but immediately after, I'm moving across the US to be with my significant other. Due to this, a couple of things are complicating things. For one, I'll be without my main computer for about a month as it ships to my new place.

Additionally, in order to pay for the move, I picked up some extra work in the form a YCH comic, which has also been eating into my time.

So what's the plan? When can you expect more Smasher?

After I graduate in March and move right around the beginning of April, I'll be taking some time to decompress and tinker with some smaller projects. While I won't have my main workstation, I'll have my laptop, which can handle development on small, and sort of weird little game projects. I should be receiving my workstation around the 25th of April, and from there, should finally be able to resume some work on Smasher, starting with some much-needed improvements to the level editor, power system, new levels, and bug fixes.

I did also want to say that I very much want to make more games than just Smasher and those smaller projects in the interim, expect them in the coming year(s)!

Thank you all so much for your patience and support with Smasher!
