It's been a long time coming! Character customization is here in 0.9.2 alongside a bunch of quality of life improvements and fixes!
Since there are so many balancing changes, especially regarding food stamina values and resources, there's a full blog post on our website with the numbers if you want to get into the nitty gritty. Otherwise, this patch note post will have all the points you'll need to know going into 0.9.2~
CHARACTER CUSTOMIZER
Customize the colors of the base (body), ears, face details, blush, paw pad, and tail
Change ears and eye colors individually
Color history palette lets you quickly re-use colors you’ve already picked
Profiles allow you to use and save up to 5 different color combinations
Randomize this (part) or randomize all (chaos) to get the creative juices flowing
Rotate between 8 directions! You used to not be able to see the paw pad, so we’ve added one direction with it visible
In the future, we'd like to add different ear/tail styles, fur patterns, and accessories! But for now, we will focus on reaching 1.0 with the other features like tool upgrades and bonding.
MIRRORS
To change your character’s appearance after the opening sequence, you can craft and place a mirror. Those who have a save file prior to the release of 0.9.2 will get a letter in their mailbox with a Softwood Mirror attached.
To start with, we have 4 mirror styles:
Softwood Mirror
Sleek Mirror with three dye slots
Traditional Mirror
Vintage Vanity with a surface
Like all other crafting recipes, these can be found and purchased at your local Carpenter’s.
NEW STORAGE CONTAINERS
We’ve been needing some better storage solutions that fit in with your decor a bit better, so we added a few! All of these have buildable surfaces on top, so you can put objects on them or stack up the boxes.
FISHING SENSITIVITY Fishing Sensitivity option added under Settings - Gameplay to change speed of your line.
GRASS No more pesky grass in your town area by the bulletin board. Your days as the forced lawnmower are over. Rejoice.
MAIN MENU Will auto-highlight Continue if you have a save file instead of New Game. Main Menu also has a new look that focuses on the two buttons you’re the most likely to click and matches better with the rest of the game’s new UI.
SKIP INTRO For those who want to skip the first day’s of cutscenes! You can now go straight from character customization into day two without missing out on any items. It will put you back at home after the cutscene of Mikan, Nobu, and you fixing up her house.
GAMEPAD ROUTING Remember the strange jank when using controller inside the Furnace, Alembic, and others? We’ve improved SnackoUI’s gamepad routing. You’ll also feel these positive changes inside the journal, where it will no longer focus on ghosts.
Selecting an item in the crafting menu will now auto-focus on the right side to allow you to decrease, increase, or craft the item.
EVENT TRIGGERS Friendship and heart events no longer trigger the second you get into the map, pulling you to random places. Now, a trigger a spawn near the location of the event instead.
BETTER INTRO QUESTS Adding additional rewards to quests to help get your early game decorating vibe started.
Moo-re to a Farm: +1 Stuffed Chicken
D.I.Why: +20 Softwood Fence, +20 Softwood Path, +5 Cobblestone Path A, +5 Cobblestone Path B
I Ship It!: +1 Softwood Couch
BETTER PLACEMENTS
You can now shove chairs closer into the Softwood Table
You can now place the Simple Fridge up against the wall when grid snapping is on
STEAM DECK POLISH Entering name fields now bring up the keyboard Default frame rate set at 60 instead of unlimited to help battery and fan noise
MORE OBVIOUS HARDWOOD Hardwood trees are now always some shade of pink that turn more purple as it gets colder. No more guessing what is what in the summer!
BUG FIXES
Softwood Lamps can now be placed on surfaces
Fixed scary bug where passing out in the Mines or outside the house will result in a giant face in your front door window
Walking on paths will no longer jitter your character
Tutorial quests no longer re-add to bulletin board in year 2
MOVEMENT & TOOLS
Window for double-jumping now longer (refer to full patch notes for more details)
Easier to spam tool faster
Slightly faster tool charge up time
BALANCE
The full scope of these changes are too long to stuff in here, so please refer to full patch notes for all numbers.
Cooked foods now give more stamina
All foods now give either stamina and/or health
Tomatoes and corn now ship for slightly less to compensate for multi-harvests
Turnip now ship for slightly more
Conduit and Quicksand shrines tweaked to be slightly easier and have more routes to the chests and end
Trees in farm and town take less hits
Resource drop ranges are more compact, going from larger ranges like 3-7 to smaller, more fair-feeling ranges like 5-7
Debris in town take less hits to destroy fully
Housing expansions, wallpaper, and flooring styles take less materials to unlock
NPC housing takes less materials to craft
That's the end of the notes for 0.9.2! I'm probably missing a couple of bugs fixed...but we'll be keeping our eyes peeled for anything unexpected that we'll hotfix in the upcoming weeks!
Enjoy the new patch, and thank you for playing 💌
Demo available for a limited time! New customization options coming soon 🎨
Meowllo! We have a big, BIG update coming soon for everyone! But we are still making sure all the save files are intact. Hopefully, we can get it all ready for release by the end of the week~
Note: Save data from demo will not carry over to full game. You cannot save or load files in the demo
For those who are new, here's your chance to try a taste of Snacko Island for free with the demo! There are three options:
Game Demo: this is just the beginning of the full game. You can go through the story cutscenes and experience your first couple of days on the island. The demo will end when you choose to proceed with the story by going into the Grassy Plains
Shrine Demo: try your skill at the speed running shrines inside Snacko! Can you get the hidden Master and Ace times?
Sandbox: start off with a few items and some materials to play around with the systems. The demo will end when you choose to proceed with the story by going into the Grassy Plains
But even though your save data won't carry over, we are adding a new option to the update coming soon...drum roll please...
Skip intro cutscenes!
For new and old players alike, we understand the first couple of days can be A Book. So we've added the option to skip through until you've helped Mikan fix up her house. Nice! You won't be missing out on any materials or items by choosing this option.
We've been hard at work on 0.9.2! It's got a lot packed into it~ It'll have the features in this demo: character customization, new items, balances, and more! Those patch notes will be Very Long so look forward to my rambling ⭐
So for now, I will just leave this at that, and let the 0.9.2 update patch notes do all the talking SOON!
I already own the game! I can't download the demo :(
Go to your library, right click Snacko -> Properties -> Betas -> snackodemo092 Enjoy!
🥕 Small Tweaks: 0.9.1_5694
Fixed issue where closing menu would cause you to jump
Removed MIAO gating for recipes (Mushroom Pasta wasn't available for most NPCs until late game)
made it so cheeseburger recipe takes "Meat" items instead of specifically "Meat Cube". Tofu, Beans both count as "meat"
Daikon and Cabbage were erroneously categorized as not veggies
Fixed some dialogue text or portrait issues
Gems now give more elemental fragments than gem shards like Goddess intended
Sleeping Box crafting recipe now buyable at the carpenter's. Was an issue if your save file is older than the change that added the box to D.I.Why
Buffed Black Petal spawn rate - they also now spawn sometimes from Sunflowers
We are working on something really nice and cool :3 So you'll see slightly less smaller updates as we focus on the larger update. Thank you for being patient!
Don't forget, if you have issues, questions, or feedback, we are always available on Discord! https://discord.gg/snackodev
🪟 Farm Performance Hotfix: 0.9.1_5659
Meowllo! Quick hotfix for those experiencing performance hitches on the farm/inside their house. If this is you, please read this part:
Effect settings turned down to low: your windows will now just display a generic window-lookingy pattern
Effect settings turned to anything above medium or above: windows will show outside your house
Performance optimization: the cameras are ONLY capturing what is outside the window if you're in that room now
What it used to do was constantly capture the information outside the windows, even if you were not indoors or inside a room with a window
Note: If your settings are low and you change it up to medium and above inside your house, the window will display a blank texture until you re-enter the room or your house
My personal recommendation on Steam Deck settings
VIDEO
Shadows: Medium
Anti-Aliasing: Low
Effects: Medium
Post Processing: Medium
Frame Rate Limit: 60
TWEAKS
Ambient Leaves: off (unticked)
Other fixes:
Mailroom should now display proper working hours if you've had Date or Lan and then switched for the other
Miss Curator's dialogue about what she likes now clarifies what she also dislikes
Mikan's dialogue about liking certain foods now gives a hint as to what she dislikes
Fixed issue where sometimes Nobu will just refuse to talk to you if you haven't said "hello" in the morning, resulting in a softlock if you choose "Hello" with active quest
Nobu Jr. Plush now stackable. Do with that what you will.
Building hotfix: 0.9.1_5626 🔨
Wee hotfix with some balancing changes and quality of life improvements~
Buildings
Reducing number of nails for Wood Framing
Reducing number of Drywall Panels required for house expansions
Fixing Eggplant Dye being pitch black
Other
Increasing contrast of Hardwood Trees to make more obvious in summer
Increasing contrast of heart container's background versus foreground
Removing cooking restriction that caused wheat to become uncookable
Reverting fishing change that made sensitivity too high (it was just skill issue)
House Expansion Update 🏡 wallpapers, floors, deco houses, and more!
Meowllo! We have a nice major update packed full of fun stuff! It's so juicy, we bumped our version up to 0.9.1! A one! Amazing.
Since we have some ground to cover, I'll go through the ✨ new ✨ things first. At the very end, you'll find small changes and bug fixes, so stick with me for a bit...
🏘️ House Upgrades
Five new rooms to unlock!
North, west, east wings + an upstairs and basement!
Eleven new wall styles to unlock, including dyeable wallpapers
Ten new floor styles to unlock, including dyeable tile, carpet, and planks
Once you unlock any floor or wall styles, freely apply them inside your house using your Builder's Kit
You can apply a different style and dye each wall
Windows!!!
The windows are really cool! It'll show you what's outside your actual windows on your house. You'll be able to enjoy your beautiful farm
...or jump scare yourself by placing a scarecrow right outside. Up to you, really.
🎨 Townhouses
"Well, what if that's still not enough room for my collection of 126 Nobu Jr. plushies?" It's okay, I hear you. Now available: townhouses!
These are decorative houses you can place anywhere: farm, town...grassy plains...?
Each townhouse interior is it's own thing, so you can have multiple of the same townhouse and decorate the inside differently
There are 6 styles in total: rustic, bold, simple, vintage, and suburban. Mix and match!
Or just use the same one. They all snap together, after all.
🛋️ Buildables
Dyes are now previewable on objects when hovering over the dye icon. Nice!
Objects now retain their dyed colors when moving
Walls and floors are now targetable to change styles + dyes
Four new storage containers that are fridge themed: Mini Fridge, Simple Fridge, Retro Fridge, and Traditional Ice Box
Retro Fridge has lots of dyeable bits, so have fun!
PS you can place objects on top of all the fridges. You can also put other fridges on top of your fridge. It's probably not up to code, but 🤷
🔨 Crafting
To go with all these changes, we've added items and rebalanced some of the crafting recipes to make the experience feel a little smoother.
New blueprint shop at the carpenters!
No more mystery "Softwood Set" purchase
Each item is now it's own thing you can learn straight from the carpenter. You don't care about crafting Sleek Counters? Then don't! I'm not your mom!!
This also allows us to easily add new items and crafting recipes in the future to existing save files
New crafting materials added: Concrete Slab, Clay Tile...etc.!
Some of these make use of the furnace. It's more than just a tool now to turn ores into bars~
Some of these also double as placeable items, like Concrete Slab, Wall Panels, and Glass!
Villager houses now use these new items in their recipes. Meaning, as long as you have access to the Desert Canyon, you can now craft all non-shopkeeper houses instead of getting random villagers that request late game items
That's the bulk of it! It's a lot, right? This was a pretty hefty build for us to work on, so we hope you'll enjoy decorating your town and home. There's also some smaller QoL and other bug fixes, so I'll go over that below.
Before that, though, thank you for reading so far! I know it's a lot. I also tend to ramble a bit, my bad. This update was pretty hard for us. Not technically, it was like...spiritually draining. I need to take a very, very long nap.
In the upcoming week or two, we'll probably focus more on bug squashing and other polish items before we attempt to work on a new content update again. You know, both to make sure the game remains stable and also our brains remain stable. This update was kinda like...5 days of "what are we even working on? I feel like we're working all day but what is happening?" to all of a sudden "hahahaha everything works we are geniuses."
Is that just life?
Anyways. Back to the patch notes.
✨ Misc.
Item hotbar now displays tiny control prompt + the 1 now has a wee serif to make it look less like a line and more like a one
We noticed a lot of new players getting stuck in the tutorial because of this, so I also added a mini tutorial that stays in the corner during the farming tutorial sequence letting you know you can scroll through your rucksack bars by using your scroll wheel or the d-pad
Checking out at the store now plays a money sound (Very Important)
Dye icons are now the WHOLE icon with the color, instead of just the world's tiniest spot. It should be easier to tell which is what color now
Lan now works longer hours: from 2PM to 7:30PM on non-rainy days. She used to be so lazy people thought she just didn't work. No, she did, just not much
Mailroom interact boxes now combined into one to be less confusing: checking it the first time will explain what it is, any subsequent interacts will either let you know that no-one on the island works there, or their working hours if someone is there
Nerfed sprinklers - they now cost a ton! Craft them if you're poor!! Since these were single-use items (once you buy them you have them for life), we felt like they needed to be a little...heftier
Fishing mini-game was punishing if your framerate was low. Fixed it so everyone should have a more similar experience. Turns out it wasn't player skill issue - it was hardware skill issue
Fixed fake dirt, potted vines, and spice collection were missing collision, so you couldn't put them away
I think that's all? There might be something small I'm missing here, but I really, actually need to go take a nap...
Thank you very much for playing and enjoying! This update came out way bulkier than we planned, and we're really proud of how it turned out!
Happy decorating! 😊💖
🍰 Mini-patch: 0.9.0_5466
Fixed issue with some NPCs having no birthday (theirs) dialogue if your friendship level with them isn't high enough
Added key/button display when you ask "how to donate" to the Cultural Center. Now, both Miss Curator and the Donation Box will show a prompt on how to hold the item
Made it harder to get stuck in a loop during the first scarecrow quest in the Grassy Plains if you were standing behind the chest
Important QoL change
Moving EAT using mouse and keyboard from E to T. No more accidental eating!
📖 Closer Paths: 0.9.0_5453 + Wiki live!
Meowllo! We present a mini-patch that makes it so that the collision for paths are smaller, meaning you can clip into them more.
I mean, you can make it look super cute and cozy, or do whatever I did up in that screenshot. The freedom is yours.
The wiki is now also live! Thank you for all the community members that have started digging into what they can add 💖 The items and their crafting recipes/cooking recipes should all be there, so we hope it's helpful for that.
Lastly, based on feedback, there is now a page inside the journal titled "help". This will bring you links to the Discord, discussion boards, as well as the wiki. You can also access the tutorials in your bookshelf from here. In the future, we'd also like to add our patch notes in-game so you're not expected to be Always Online.
Thank you for playing~ We're back to fixes and tool upgrade work now that the wiki framework is done. Phew 💦
🔖 Mini-patch + wiki soon!: 0.9.0_5445
Meowllo! This is just a small patch adjusting addressing some small things:
Mailroom clerks will now visually show up for work
Item preview in your rucksack will no longer be a pink square while in desert
Basic stove now takes 5 Myst Crystals instead of 5 Fire Fragments to make it more reliable to craft early game
That aside, we've been working on putting together a wiki that will hopefully go live soon!
There's a lot of data and general stuff in Snacko, so we hope having a proper wiki that more of the community will then be able to add to will help you on your island colonialization building plans!
🛍️ Smooth Shopping: 0.9.0_5419
Meowllo! We've made some major changes to how shops look and function~ They should now be easier to work with, especially on gamepad!
Shops
They're just like your storage container or shipping box: you can double click to move an entire stack and split items.
How we're internally handling the shops now also give us more freedom to choose things such as random restock % chance, or how many days between restock.
Auto-Save
Another quality of life change is disallowing saving manually in the auto-save slot.
There was an unfortunate ability to lose all your save progress by only saving in the auto-save slot, starting a new game, then having the auto-save in the new game override your old file.
Now, you'll be prompted to save in the other numbered slots, so at the very least you'll always have a manual back-up in case it happens.
Other
Gifting was never disabled for tourists - you'll no longer get Hanna accepting a gift on behalf of them
Both Miss Curator and the Donation Box will now let you know if you've already donated something, or if the item isn't accepted instead of endlessly accepting all items
However, crops are not donateable, yet still marked as such. Fix coming soon for this!
Issue where NPC dialogue randomization was rolling the same line frequently
