Content Preview: Raids, Shops, and Unit Upgrades



We're hard at work on new content for Sons of Valhalla. Here's a preview of what we have in store for you.

Campaign Structure: Shorter, More Intense Raids



  • Smaller Levels: Levels have been divided into shorter raids, each lasting no more than 20 minutes. After completing a raid, you’ll return to a new overview map to select your next target.
  • Strategic Battles: Each control point comes with varying levels of resistance. Victory yields hacksilver and gold for upgrades and reinforcements, while defeat forces you to retreat and regroup.
  • Storm Mechanic: A storm steadily pushes south, locking points on the same vertical axis when it arrives. This time pressure forces players to make critical decisions about their next move.
  • Freer Level Design: The new structure allows for more creatively designed levels without the constraints of the previous linear progression system.

Unit Management



  • Unit Selection: Players must decide which units to deploy before raids based on the target’s fortification strength, visible on the world map. Siege weapons become vital for heavily fortified areas.
  • Abilities Redesign: Units and players can now equip abilities. These abilities apply to all units of the same type, giving them a greater impact than the previous rune system.

Shops: Skills and Supplies for Sale


The introduction of shops brings new ways to acquire essential items and skills:

    General: Sells provisions and consumables like arrows.

    Armory: Offers items with skills, making it one of the most critical shop types.

    Mercenary Agent: Enables future recruitment of mercenaries through signed contracts.

    Shipyard: Expands your ship’s capacity to carry larger crews.

Major changes include a reworked campaign structure with smaller, focused battles, a time-based map progression system, and updated unit management. Shops will now play a key role in upgrading skills, securing provisions, and recruiting mercenaries as you push forward to save Raya.

After launching Sons of Valhalla earlier this year, you brave warriors arrived in droves to experience the wonders of the Viking Age for yourselves. It’s been such a thrill to watch our community grow and collaborate with all of you to make Sons of Valhalla the best game it can be. One of our proudest accomplishments with this game has been its distinct visual style.




We've also been hard at work reworking and improving the game, as discussed in this preview that goes over some of the changes we have planned. We're very much looking forward to rolling the improved version of the game out to you.

Recent Highlights: Patch Preview


The upcoming patch brings significant changes inspired by community feedback:

The campaign in Sons of Valhalla is being transformed to feature smaller, more focused raids with a new overview map displaying available control points. Each raid will take around 20 minutes, allowing for quicker, more intense battles. Players can earn resources like hack silver and gold from successful raids to upgrade units and equipment or regroup if defeated.



Unit management has been redesigned to give players greater control over their forces. Before each raid, players can purchase and assign units tailored to the target's fortifications, clearly indicating the challenge level on the map.



Skills, provisions, arrows, and mercenary units will be available in the upcoming update through a planned “shop” system. This new feature will include four distinct shop types, randomly distributed on the map at the start of the game:


  • General Shops: Planned to sell provisions and consumables, such as projectiles like arrows.
  • Armories: Expected to offer items granting skills, making them a key resource for enhancing your forces.
  • Mercenary Agents: Intended to allow players to hire specialized mercenary units through contracts, providing new strategic options.
  • Shipyards: Designed to offer upgrades for ships, such as increased capacity to carry larger crews.
