The Storm Is Here - Content Update 2
PROGRESSION
Progress. It’s how we know we’re getting better. At Outpost, we’ve been working on making progress by expanding SOS and pushing the game to surpass the expectations of ourselves and our players. However, for those same players, the sense of progress has been largely limited to climbing the leaderboards and working on improving your rating.
Starting in Content Update 2, we’re adding an Experience system to SOS. Players will be able to earn XP and level up their accounts based on completing certain actions in their SOS matches. Actions like killing a Small Hupia, picking up a Mushroom, and using a Medkit earn you relatively small amounts of XP, whereas actions such as signaling the Helicopter or helping a teammate escape will pull in a far heftier reward.
You’ll also be rewarded for forming alliances with other Contestants (up to a certain point). You will receive bonus experience for each person you team with until you reach a team of four. After that, it scales back down with each extra team member you add, so watch your team size if you want to receive the greatest rewards. You’ll earn XP whether or not you complete the match, but the opportunities to earn the greatest XP will happen towards the end of a match, so it’s often in your best interest to stick around.
We are going to be progressively (heh) rolling out the pieces of this system as we continue to work on SOS. Currently, progression and leveling is its own reward, but we will be steadily introducing more tangible rewards in the coming months. Stay tuned for future updates when we dive into in-game rewards.
ACHIEVEMENTS
Related to this sense of long-term progression that we are adding to the game are the new Achievements. We’ve added some early Steam Achievements to SOS with many more to come in future releases. Below is the current list of Achievements hitting as part of Content Update 2:
STORM STATE
While La Cuna Island has often been a perfect storm of uneasy alliances and unexpected victories, we’ve never meant the storm part quite so literally before. A thick fog covers the island obscuring vision while rolling thunder crackles in the distance. The rainslick shores of La Cuna make tracking more difficult and stealthy extractions more viable.
Storm State is randomized and is not tied to Day or Night Mode. You will be able to toggle Storm State on and off in your Custom Match settings, so now you can flip things to a dark and stormy night and host your own murder mystery.
GHOSTING FIX
You might be throwing a murder mystery party on La Cuna, but you know who won’t be invited? Ghosts. With Content Update 2, we have altered how spectating works to put a stop to ghosting exploits with the defibrillator. Now, upon death, players will have to select whether they will spectate the match or wait for revival. If they choose revival, their view will be locked on their dead body, keeping them from acquiring information from across the island before being brought back.
NEW WEAPONS AND ITEMS
GIALDINI
Sometimes you want to get up close and personal to an enemy--sorry, potential extraction partner, but you know a plunger just won’t be able to cut it. It’s in those moments of near panic that you should stop, take a breath, and reach for your handy Gialdini before leveling the competition.
The Gialdini is a sawed-off, double barrel shotgun with immense stopping power. It functions best at close range, firing 10 pellets that quickly drop off in effectiveness at longer distances. The chamber can only hold two rounds at a time and the reload speed is the longest in the game, so make sure you hold out long enough to make every shot count.
DONKEY LEG
The Donkey Leg offers a new high-impact approach to ranged encounters. This new rifle allows you to gift your adversaries the feeling of getting kicked in the head by a stubborn mule while remaining at a healthy distance from retaliation.
The Donkey Leg is a lever action reload with only five shots in the chamber, so make sure you have your quarry in your sights before firing off a round. This may not be the highest damage weapon in the game, but it offers more precision for long-ranged combat than La Cuna Island has yet seen.
HELMET AND BODY ARMOR
This brand-spanking new gear offers a whole new defensive option for approaching opposing teams and making sure you make it onto the helicopter at extraction. Stashed throughout La Cuna Island, these new defensive items can give your team the extra edge it might need to take out that larger group camping the extraction site.
Each of these pieces of armor can be equipped individually and reduce damage until they are eventually destroyed. You can monitor your armor’s durability through the icon in the bottom corner of your game screen. Helmets nullify headshot bonuses and reduce damage to the head until they are destroyed. Body Armor reduces damage to the torso until it is destroyed.
HANGING CRATES
Look up sometime. It just might save your life.

SOS Celebrity Spotlight - Kwolve
Hello La Cuna!
This week we bring you the first installment of a new exciting program: SOS Celebrity Spotlight.
SOS Celebrity Spotlight strives to feature the most dynamic, dedicated, and influential members of the SOS community. We want you to see who is making the difference on and off La Cuna Island.
Having said that, we would like to introduce our very first SOS Celebrity Spotlight featured player…
KWOLVE (Warning: The following clips may have... colorful language…)
Kwolve is a long-time SOS player and a dedicated Twitch streamer. We got a chance to ask Kwolve some questions about streaming and SOS, and this is what he had to say:
What’s your name?
Kyle
Where are you from?
Southern California
Tell us about what got you into streaming. How long have you been doing it?
Initially I got into streaming so I could watch my own VoDs to improve my gameplay in League and WoW. I've been streaming on Twitch since March 16th 2011. Before that I streamed briefly on Xfire and Own3d.
What keeps you streaming?
I developed a love for entertaining and making people laugh which is why I've stuck with it so long. It also helps that through streaming I have met a great many people I am happy to call friends!
What do you like to do when you’re not creating content?
When I'm not sitting in front of a computer for 8 hours talking to a screen I like to read, eat, gym, and watch anything Marvel / Fantasy related that happens to be on Netflix.
What was the moment in-game that got you hooked on SOS?
My most vivid memory is when I first met Cayzi and she followed me around poking me while I murdered everyone. For some reason that has just stuck with me. It's a shining example of the sheer randomness that takes place in any given game of SOS.
Day mode or Night mode? Why?
Night mode. Because I love the stealth aspect of sneaking around groups and then popping out of the shadows to end them all.
If a round of SOS featuring you was a movie, what would it be called?
3 Questions
Do you role-play as any characters in SOS? What are their names? Describe them.
The only character I've roleplayed is Killer Prime. He is a robot with a Pennywise Accent. If you hear my voice while I'm doing this run or be ready to re-que.
How would you describe your style of gameplay in SOS?
Aggressive / Social. Anyone who has played with me can tell you I am one of the most aggressive players in the game. I care more about the combat than I do winning. I am more satisfied with a 5v5 gun fight than extracting in smoke for points. On the flip side I am extremely social when I'm not in full blown Blood for the Blood God mode. I have a set of three questions I ask all players the first time I group with them. If you answer the final one wrong chances are you will get stuck spectating the game. If you do make it in I don't betray often unless I have a Bapper, there's a bomb, it would be funny, or if you stand still for more than 2 seconds and I have a Wilcox. :D
First of all I want to thank Outpost for giving me this opportunity and creating a game that allows us to play every round differently each game if we choose. Second I want to thank all the wonderful friends I have met through playing SOS like Momo, Casey, Aero, Katie, Philley, Hawkins, and Seth just to name a few. Third I want to thank the Kwolve Pack. You guys are fantastic and the amount of support and love you show not only to me but all the other brilliant SOS content creators we play with on a regular basis is incredible! Lastly I want to thank my best friend for holding me accountable and pushing me to be better. In regards to streaming and life.
We want to thank Kwolve for taking the time to talk with us. Make sure to check out and follow his Twitch channel on Hero where you can catch him running around and causing trouble on La Cuna Island!
Congrats to the winners of the first SOS Prime Time!
Congratulations to the winners of our first SOS Prime Time match: Bullen, SneakEBeaver, and Kevaflazh! Since all three escaped, they earned themselves prizes of $500 each!
Thanks to all our participating Contestants!

Announcing SOS Prime Time - March 4
Key to the unique nature of SOS is that the game features a real audience. Who do audiences want to watch? The best!
Is that you? Want to prove it?
Well, now’s your chance, because in order to find and feature the best SOS players for our audience, we are kicking off our very first PRIME TIME TOURNAMENT match!
How to Qualify for the Prime Time Match
There will be two ways to qualify for the Prime Time match:
What You Can Win in the Tournament
The admiration and jealousy typically reserved for someone of your stature. Knowing, respectful nods from strangers who learn of your deeds. And money, that too.
Besides the audience, something else that’s key to SOS is that it’s not a bloodthirsty winner-takes-all game. Multiple players can survive, and some of the best moments happen when teams form, break, and re-form as they compete for the spots on the helicopter.
That’s why in this tournament match, the more players who escape, the more money they make!
In addition to prize money, Prime Time contestants will also be featured throughout the following week on our social channels and will automatically be invited back to defend their positions in the next Prime Time Tournament.
The Specifics
The leaderboards will be reset on February 23nd , at which time the qualification period will begin.
The top eight from the Survival Leaderboard as of Friday March 2st at 3:59PM PST will automatically be invited to the Prime Time match. Two additional alternates will be invited in the case that those on the Leaderboard are unavailable that weekend for the match.
The survival leaderboard is based on extractions completed from solo matches. Please note duos and custom matches do not contribute to your position on the Survival Leaderboard.
Also note that the Fame Leaderboard will not be used for Prime Time qualification.
The second eight will be invited from members of Order of the Relic, at the discretion of Outpost Games, based on their gameplay. To be considered for membership in Order of the Relic, be sure to visit the link below:
How do I know if I’ve made it to the Prime Time Tournament?
Members of Order of the Relic will be announced daily starting with our stream on Friday and continuing daily through the qualification period at noon PST each day.
We will announce the remaining eight places as chosen from the top of the Survival Leaderboard on Friday, March 2nd at 4PM and will announce via Twitter and our Steam Community Hub.
When is the First Tournament?
The first Prime Time Tournament match will be held Sunday, March 4th at 2PM PST. The single match will be hosted by the SOS game team with colorful commentary provided by guest shout casters.
