The team keeps enthusiastically working towards the Early Access goals. Today's patch is foundational work, and does not have a lot of features visible to the players (but for a few bug fixes).

Help us with the testing!
We would love to have your help in testing some key features. For each feature you test, we would love to have your specific feedback about that feature:
Closed Beta Chain Quest: There's a quest chain visible to all Beta players and featured in the Main Menu (Top-Right corner of the screen). This quest chain will reward you with some of the best cards in the game! So check them out and help us testing it at the same time.
Participate in the Home Defense Tournament: Create the toughest Home Defense you can come up with and share it with the community. Several players have taken the lead and their home defenses are looking awesome!
Nightmare Game Mode: Players have been doing great progress in advancing through the depths of the Nightmare game mode! Show us who can get farthest!
New Features and Content Updates
Alpha and Beta Badge Nameplates: As a token of gratitude for their help, Alpha and Beta users have been awarded special Alpha and Beta badges that are visible right next to their names during gameplay.
Backend is now independent from Steam: While the Steam experience is still identical to Steam players, we have laid out the foundation work to make the game independent from Steam. This is an important step in making sure we can run on other platforms like consoles or mobile devices.
Automatic sync between Game Client and Web Client spell information: Spell information was being tracked separately between our web and in game clients. There's now a process to handle automatic exporting so there should be no inconsistencies now.
Game Client/Web Server Version Check: We have introduced a new check that will allow the game client to check if the web server is compatible. If the check is not passed the client will show a message and the game will not run until the client is updated. This will avoid crashes due to outdated game clients.
Web service authentication updates: We have added some more robustness to in game client authentication to the web server.
Bug Fixes
Fixed swapped Video/Audio settings : Audio/Video menu selection was behaving erratically making settings navigation somewhat difficult.
Turn score information fixes: There was a bug preventing home defense to properly show weekly turn scores.
Changes in Steam User Name are now reflected in game: Previously the game would show the first Steam User Name that the user had when playing for the first time. Now changes in user name are properly synched.
Thanks for joining the community in this early phase. Your contribution (testing and feedback) is what will make this a great game! And remember, you can join us on Discord (https://discord.gg/M3q3Zbb) to get more information and updates!

Beta Update (8-15-2018)
Hello,
As the Beta moves forward, we're starting to take our time to analyze all the data we have gathered, and figure out the next steps towards Early Access. While the Early Access will have a bunch of new content and exciting features that we are already working on, we will keep patching the game with bug fixes and minor updates. In particular this patch contains fixes for 3 bugs that have been preventing players from getting into the game or game modes.
If you want to join the beta you can grab a key here: https://www.alienwarearena.com/ucf/show/1894359/boards/contest-and-giveaways-global/Giveaway/soul-shards-exclusive-closed-beta-key-giveaway

Bug Fixes
Control settings now enabled during tutorial : Previously we had disabled control settings during the tutorials. This was because the tutorials didn't show key/controls bindings dynamically. This is fixed, and now the control settings are enabled at any time, and the tutorials properly show the custom bindings from the user. Apologies to all our good friends using different control layouts who were prevented from trying the game!
Start Game Button Overlap: At first we didn't notice that in certain resolutions the "Start Game" button was overlapping with the "Game Options" user interface, not allowing users in these resolutions to properly select the game options. This have been fixed now.
Steam VR issues: While the game doesn't support Steam VR, some users reported that Steam VR was turning on when the game started. Besides being annoying, sound also went into the VR hardware and didn't allow for a good user experience. We have a fix candidate in this patch, and we would love to hear from users if the problem has been solved for them.

Feedback Request
Hi Everyone!
It's been two weeks since we launched the Beta. At this point many of you would have had the time to play some or all the tutorials, and maybe gotten to the point where you have started trying the game features.
Thanks to you we have started realizing some of our weaknesses:
Our tutorials are too long and not skippable.
There are game settings that should be there which absence is preventing players to get to the game.
Moving to more languages is important.
The game is not making it easy for players to connect with other players.
The UI flow still doesn't make it easy to understand how to move forward with the game after the tutorials.
And many more!
But we are sure there are many more things that we could be learning from you!
We loved the initial enthusiasm and were delighted to hear what you liked from the game. But we would also love to hear different things:
What didn't you like from the game?
What has really annoyed you?
What things need serious improvement?
What additional game modes would you like to see there?
What would make you feel hooked to the game?
Please be tough, our egos are not fragile and we are very conscious of the stage we are in! Be it a couple of lines or a larger text, your feedback means the world to us!
You can leave your feedback in the Steam Forums (https://steamcommunity.com/app/400070/discussions/2/) or in Discord (https://discordapp.com/invite/M3q3Zbb).

Beta Update (8-2-2018)
Hello,
The Closed Beta has started and we have seen more than 5K Soul Shards matches happen since the 27th. The participation of the community has been awesome since it started, and we want to thank you all for playing our still very bugged and incomplete game! If you are having problems with the game or have some feedback, please don't hesitate to reach to us.
If you want to join the beta you can grab a key here: https://www.alienwarearena.com/ucf/show/1894359/boards/contest-and-giveaways-global/Giveaway/soul-shards-exclusive-closed-beta-key-giveaway
As usual, We've been gradually patching the game, and we thought this a good time to share what we have been working on since the last update!
Help us with the testing!
We would love to have your help in testing some key features. For each feature you test, we would love to have your specific feedback about that feature:
Participate in the Home Defense Tournament: Create the toughest Home Defense you can come up with and share it with the community. Several players have taken the lead and their home defenses are looking awesome!
Nightmare Game Mode: Players have been doing great progress in advancing through the depths of the Nightmare game mode! Show us who can get farthest!
Multiplayer: Join us on Discord (https://discord.gg/M3q3Zbb) and play with matches with us! Multiplayer is a lot of fun!
New Features and Content Updates
Multiplayer services are enabled: We have decided to make our multiplayer services available at all times.
Matchmaking Discord Bot: We have configured a match making bot that notifies the Discord community if a player is queued for multiplayer.
Leaderboards: We have introduced Leaderboards for the 3 main game modes: Nightmare, Home Defense and PvP.
New Card Design: We have introduced a new card design. This is still work in progress, but we thought even if not completely finished the new one already surpasses the old one, so we decided to make it available.
Mirage/Unstable balance tweaks: Mirage cards with the unstable ability have been adjusted. Before the patch, cards with the unstable ability were able to bring back mirages at a disproportionate rate. Also there's now an upper limit of 500 Unstable counters per player.
Second Wind no longer deals damage in nightmare: Nightmare matches will get more difficult as level progresses and it makes no sense to penalize players with this damage over time.
User Interface Changes
Improvements to the Deck Selection Menu: There are multiple improvements to the deck selection menu, where the user can select difficulty, select a deck and start a match. This menu contains now tons of information about the game mode, leaderboards, ranking, progression, quests, rewards and power ups depending on the game mode.
Score Widgets: For the single player modes you can now check how each match contributes to your global score in the leaderboards. The score widget is automatically shown after a game finishes.
Tooltips: We want to continue improving on how easy it is to understand the game. We keep adding tooltips to as many UI elements as possible to explain their functionality.
Multiplayer lobby abandon button: Players no longer have to wait until a multiplayer match is available or until they enter the queue. An abandon button is now available to leave the multiplayer lobby at any time.
Added new control settings: Added two new settings to control Look Sensitivity and to Invert Y Axis.
Added card selection shortcuts: 1,2,3 and 4 keys now work as shortcuts to select the corresponding deck slots in the battle deck.
Added rewards menu item to main menu.
Removed play button from quests screen: In the previous version we allowed to play the game directly from the quests screen. This has been removed because it was not very accurate (i.e. the player might not be completing the intended quest). This feature might return in a future with a slightly different form.
Added status to quests screen: Added status text (failed, completed, in progress) to quests in the quests screen.
Intro Video: The story teaser has been added when the game starts to give the users more context on the game lore.
Bug Fixes
Multiplayer queue bug fix: Fixed multiplayer queue that prevented starting any multiplayer match.
Tutorial typo fixes: Community members kindly provided pointers to several typos and text errors through the application.
Player Provisioning fixes: We had several players that were unable to play the game because of user provisioning issues. The issues have been fixed and we welcome the players in this situation to try again.
Thanks for joining the community in this early phase. Your contribution (testing and feedback) is what will make this a great game! And remember, you can join us on Discord (https://discord.gg/M3q3Zbb) to get more information and updates!

Alpha Update (7-12-2018)
Hello,
It's been a while since we announced our last update. We've been gradually patching the game, and we thought this a good time to share what we have been working on since the last update!
Help us with the testing!
We would love to have your help in testing some key features. For each feature you test, we would love to have your specific feedback about that feature:
Interactive Tutorials: Checkout the new interactive tutorials and help us deliver a great game entry experience to new players.
Participate in the Home Defense Tournament: Create the toughest Home Defense you can come up with and share it with the community.
Nightmare Game Mode: We have made major improvements over the Nightmare Game Mode. It's a very different game now. Check the new progression and show us how far you can get! Help us test the progression, the quests, and the special Nightmare rewards!
New Features and Content Updates
Interactive Tutorials: We have introduced a set of 4 mandatory interactive tutorials that will help new players to learn how to play the game. Tutorials are mandatory for both new and old players.
Ice Void Archetype Starter Decks: After completing the tutorials, users will be awarded with a free starter deck that can be one of the 3 Ice Void archetypes: Beast Hunter, Corrupted Frostbite and Unstable Winter based on some of the Native, Nightmare and Mirage mechanics.
Nightmare Mode Revamped: We have revamped the entire Nightmare game mode. There's five new decks you will play against, each one with its own AI and play style. Nightmare creatures will keep improving as you level up, but this time you will gain new powers (Rays and Pillars) that will help you to keep up with the increased difficulty. We have reset Nightmare Level to 1 for all players.
New Cards: We have introduced a total of 18 new cards. Some of these are Nightmare exclusive: Ray of Submission/Dominance, Pillar of Exalting/Transcendence. The other ones reinforce the new archetypes. Mirage: Ethereal Rain, Stabilize. Nightmare: Defile the Land/Vicious to Noxious. Native: Ice Elemental/Beast Lore.
Game pace change: The overall game pace was a bit slower than what we were trying to achieve. We have made adjustments to all creatures so they can take actions faster. Action should feel smoother now.
Creature Casting Improvements: In previous versions, for all creatures, it was required that the players selected the Soul Well to cast them. This caused players to lose focus from the battle. This has been changed and now the creatures will be cast in front of the caster and automatically assigned to the closest Soul Well. Also the creature will now try to attack the closest creature on cast.
Dynamic Crosshair: We have implemented a dynamic cross hair that will change depending on the type of card the user has selected. The new crosshair contains useful information that lets the user know about the targets for the selected spell.
Home Defense Wait Action: As it was, setting up the rhythm of a Home Defense was a little bit tricky. We are now allowing users to add timed pauses as actions when building their home defenses. This feature allows to create home defenses that are more interesting to challenge.
Curated Home Defenses: Old home defenses that didn't comply with minimum playability standards have been removed from the tournament.
User Interface Changes
Tooltips for card descriptions: We have added some additional tooltips that show a basic card description when hovering over the card in different parts of the UI.
Web tours: We have added web tours that will help new users to get used to some of the experiences in the web screens.
Bug Fixes
Performance improvements for web based screens: Performance has been greatly improved for access to web screens.
Spell and ability fixes: Several bug fixes have been implemented for some spells and abilities like Ice Blast, Journey Through Helgast and Unleashed.
Creature AI bug fixes: We have implemented major bug fixes for creature AI. This includes fixes for flying creatures AI, ranged creatures AI, creature positioning in the board, auto-migrate abilities and much more. We have much more improvements to work on in this area, but overall, AI feels better now.

Alpha Update (4-28-2018)
Hello,
Here's the list of changes that were packaged with the most recent update. The team focus at this point is achieving a better experience for first time users. We have started creating a set of in-game tutorials.
Help us with the testing!
We would love to have your help in testing some key features. For each feature you test, we would love to have your specific feedback about that feature:
New Home Defense menu tiles: We have made some changes that should make the discoverability of Home Defense tournament game mode a little bit easier. If you haven't created a home defense just go into the "Single Player Menu" and you should be able to see the new tiles there.
Participate in the Home Defense Tournament: We have added new options to the Home Defense game mode so you can select to attack other players in the Home Defense tournament. Create your home defense, enable it, and then you should be able to attack other players from the deck selection screen.
Nightmare Game Mode: Check out the new information we have added about this game mode and play-test the first 50 levels. Once you reach level 50 you will face an unbeatable challenge that will be locking you out of the next levels. Soon we will be adding the next 200 levels!
Multiplayer matches: Look for us in discord (https://discordapp.com/invite/M3q3Zbb) or join us in our regular twitches (https://www.twitch.tv/psiontechcr Wednesday 5:30PM PST) to have multiplayer matches!
User Interface Changes
Changes to improve responsiveness for Web Client: Improvements on responsiveness of the Web Client. Making sure that the different elements look good on higher screen resolutions up to 4K.
Add + to the tower button in Home Defense: Fixes on the Home Defense screen of the Deck Builder client. Unifying the look and feel so the "+" sign is used when adding Enchantments/Champion/Towers.
Bug Fixes
Removed rogue scrollbar on the Quest Screen and others: Removing global scroll-bars on different screens of the Deck Builder client and replacing them with specific scroll-bars inside the screen controls.
Fixed Home Defense progression bug: In the progression screen, some progression tiles in next blocks were colored incorrectly not showing progression correctly.
Fixes to Major Quests: Several fixes to Conqueror, Insomniac, Daily and Weekly major quests. Most of these quests had several bugs that affected progression and reward visualization. Also fixed a bug preventing major quest selection in certain circumstances.
Thanks for joining the community in this early phase. Your contribution (testing and feedback) is what will make this a great game!
