Important Announcement: SoundSelf Leaving Steam to Focus on Therapeutic Use

Dear SoundSelf Community,

We have an important announcement to share with you all. Starting on June 17th, SoundSelf: A Technodelic will no longer be available for purchase on Steam. This decision has been made in order to focus our efforts on the medical and therapeutic aspects of the experience. Over the years, we have been grateful for the support and feedback from our dedicated community of players on Steam. Your input has been invaluable in helping SoundSelf evolve and grow.

For a long time, I have had a knowing in my heart that gaming can be more than entertainment and more than artistic expression; that the unique interactive properties of games make give them a unique power for psychological transformation that is currently barely tapped. These last two years have shown the manifest reality of that intuition. From the marriage of the Games industry with the Medical and Therapeutic industries, a new field has been born called “Digital Therapeutics” (or DTx for shot). It is a young field, but full of brilliant minds using videogames to affect positive psychological healing… not to mention other kinds of healing that are tied to neurology, like gut health.

As we transition to the medical space, we are excited to bring the therapeutic benefits of SoundSelf to a wider audience in need of non-pharmaceutical mental health solutions. You can learn more about that important work at https://www.soundself.com or by watching the video below.

For those of you reading this who work in the mental health field, we are eager to connect and collaborate with you! This transition represents a significant milestone in leveraging gaming technology to foster healing and personal growth. If you're a mental health professional and a gaming enthusiast, we share a unique and powerful bond. Please reach out to us directly here. Together, we can make a meaningful impact on mental health and well-being through the innovative fusion of gaming and therapeutic practices.

If you have already purchased SoundSelf on Steam, you will still be able to access and play the game through your Steam library, though we will no longer be patching or upgrading it.

We thank you all for being a part of this incredible journey and for helping to make SoundSelf what it is today. Your enthusiasm and support have meant the world to us, and we are excited about the positive impact that SoundSelf will have on mental health and well-being in the years to come.

Best regards,
Robin Arnott, and the rest of us at Andromeda Entertainment

SoundSelf Update - August 2021

It's been a rough couple months here at Andromeda, as we deal with a very hard to track down bug, that only seems to affect Mac users. Thank you for your patience, and here are the latest patch notes:

  • Merged instrument sets Organ and Metal, removing the less pleasant sounds of each of them.
  • Fixed an issue where either Metal, was using the incorrect Layer2 sound
  • Changed level of direct monitor based on feedback
  • Revamped how volume is perpetuated through the program. It is MUCH more dynamic now.
  • Improved voice brightness behavior throughout program to make it more dynamic.
  • Fixed some issues in the music system
  • Made noise floor detection better when subwoofer is enabled
  • Made worldgrounds randomize starting position and direction of stepping
  • Made worldgrounds NOT change on a song if it has been less than 80 seconds
  • Made director trigger changes in song sometimes.
  • Slight adjustments to main menu.
  • Added a 'get out' that will allow for a shorter tone in the mic test when AGC is detected (helps when using a Quest or Quest 2 in passthrough mode)
  • Mac specific launch issues resolved

New Sky! and more audio fixes

- PortAudio updated to latest DLL (this should solve a lot of audio device bugs)
- New skybox implemented, with much better look
- Fixed various minor bugs

Audio DLL troubles

Our last patch included the latest version of an audio DLL that we use, but this seems to have caused issues for some hardware.

We've included a new workaround located in the 'audio_fix' folder that will cycle through different versions of the DLL for anyone who is suddenly experiencing audio device problems.

Thank you for understanding.

Audio Hardware Patch!

  • Fixed various minor bugs
  • Updated version check logic (first party)
  • Fixed a bug related to serial key entry (first-party)
  • Fixed a crash bug related to tolerance / fault detection in Pitch patch
  • Updated Audio backend. This should solve most hardware detection problems
  • skipMenu flag now correctly skips ‘splash’ screens

Patch Notes - Jan 2021

Updated to version: 1.0.6b-4115

Soundself Modding

Since the launch of SoundSelf there have been many ideas throw around about what we can add to change the game experience. At it's core, we as a developer team feel SoundSelf is where it needs to be. Instead of adding additional features we feel the community is more than equipped to create mods which enhance the experience. We encourage anyone who has ideas on how to improve SoundSelf to attempt and create mods which capture what you are envisioning. Currently we don't support SteamWorks but if there is more activity in the modding community we will switch over to a more user friendly system via SteamWorks.

A guide to Modding content on SoundSelf has been added to the Community/Guides section in Steam.
