Legacy Version Now Default

After someone had asked me to see if I could give them the legacy version of the game (before the last announcement) I went and played both versions of the game.

While the newer build was much what I had more imagined when I first thought of the game, the legacy version has aged well. The biggest problem 2 years ago was FPS, but after playing both versions the older version is running smooth at 11ms or below (instead of skipping on my 970 like it used to). The other problem was motion sickness, I had gotten a lot of comments / emails / feedback that the legacy version was too motion sickness inducing and not VR friendly (this was very early on in VR) and that was a large reason for me removing all those mechanics.

For now I'm really quite happy with how it feels playing it two years later

So I've reset the build back to legacy for everyone. I hope you all enjoy!

Patch Notes [3/2/2017] [End of Early Access]

Hey everyone!


Thank you everyone for playing Space, VR! in early acsess. I finished rebuilding the game from the ground of into more of the experience I imagined when I first created Space, VR!. Ever since middle school I was fascinated by the moon and space in general and wanted to feel what it was like on the moon. With the help of VR and Space, VR! I was able to make that a (virtual) reality!

Changelog



  • Removed several maps and just focused on a single map
  • Decreased the size of the maps from 2 km to 1 km for increased preformance
  • Added controller supported movement (this should help people who use OSVR to play)
  • Added teleportation and more conventional movement at high request. This should be more friendly to those who just got a VR headset or are prone to movement sickness.
  • Removed all the motion sickness inducing jumping and jetpack movement.
  • Increased quality of terrain to be more realistic


Bugfixes



  • Fixed not being able to exit the game
  • Fixed falling off maps when crouching
  • Fixed Audio Skipping
  • Fixed "sparkling" in dark areas

This is not the end


There will be more updates in the future. Our company is now focused on a second *MUCH* bigger title. However, we still have plans for the future of Space, VR!

All updates to this will be free from now into the infinite future!

Longtime no see...

Hey everyone, there's a couple things I'd like to discuss with everyone.

First of all I apologize for the lack of updates, we had lost our project files when testing a plugin. I'd been rebuilding it but had a family emercengy. I had to drop out of college and deal with that. I've finally started back up on developing again.

The next update will be the last for early access for a couple reasons:

1. I'm changing how this game essentially works, it will now only be a couple maps but with better interface and options. I'm removing the movement system as is and replacing it with a couple options, one of them being a highly requested teleport movement instead of the leaping we had before, the others being trackpad movement if you don't want to use the teleport.

2. I've joined a team and we are currently working on a second larger title: VR Dungeon Crawler. If you are interested we are giving a $5 discount upon release to those who supported us with "Space, VR!" (I'll be giving more info to that later when we get closer to release.) Additionally if anyone would like to help us test this new game please PM, reply, or email me and I'll provide you the link to the alpha.

Look to see this update before the end of this month.

Also astronomical events. This one shown is totally scripted but real events will happen randomly in survival mode. Watch out for asteroid showers (and more), if you're not prepared they can be deadly!

We're still in the middle of modeling and texturing but this should give a good idea of where it's going.

The functionality added is resource collection and conversion to your fuel / oxygen / suit energy.

Teaser #1 for next update

Hello astronauts! With the next update you'll have the option to pick survival mode. Survival mode will plant you in a base where you have to stuggle to stay alive.

Your space suit will have 4 main categories:

  • Oxygen: Allows you to breathe. Without oxygen you will start to suffocate and lose health rapidly.
  • Suit Energy: General Suit functions including oxygen, jetpack refuel, heating and more.
  • Health: Your life force
  • Jetpack Fuel: Allows you to reach higher places and find resources you couldn't get to without it.


We're working on modeling the main base so expect the concept art soon.



My summer final is the August 11th, so expect to see more updates after that.

Patch Notes for 7/29/2016

Hello all you astronauts!

Today's update was scheduled for tomorrow, but my 3d modeler went out of town so I'll push this one out tonight. It's a small update as detailed below:


  • Removed the multi-directional dash in favor of the:
  • Added jetpack, holding down on the thumb pad moves you in the direction that that controller is pointing. It currently has unlimited fuel, so you can even fly to the top of the alien space ship if you want to.
  • Changed the model on the left hand to be an astronaut's hand. When I release the next update all of the UI and information will be displayed above the glove (fuel, oxygen, health etc)
  • Changed the position of the flashlight to the head and not the hand. That way wherever you look it will be illuminated.
  • Updated the tutorial level to reflect the changes
  • Added more secrets on the Mars level as well as the Yellow/Blue alien level


I'll release smaller updates between now and the next major one (which should include the other hand and better audio)

The next major update will take a little more time(looking to be about at the end of next month), as it will be much bigger than this one. I'll be looking to add quests and RPG elements along with structures and interiors to them.

Demo is now fixed and available to download.

I've fixed the issue with the free download and it should be available for everyone now!

I'm working on the next build which should be up by Saturday. Check back here for patch notes then! If there's anything you'd like to see, start a discussion as I check the boards everyday.
