Spartacus

Version 1.0.2 is live

Swords and Sandals Spartacus has now been updated to version 1.0.2. This patch was to bring the game in-line with the upcoming Nintendo Switch build of the game ( it was also released on iOS last week and is coming soon to Android!)

In this patch and based on user feedback, I worked on making the character easier to control, less hectic in his run speed etc. I also made his jump a little less heavy so he is easier to control in the air. Staircases were removed from the game completely just because they were super-buggy, the player would sometimes fall through them on older machines and no amount of trickery could fix it, so in the interest of gameplay I removed them and redesigned a few levels accordingly.

Full patch notes

  • Reworked how Spartacus moves so it feels less like he is running on skates.
  • Jump airtime increased to give player more time to control Spartacus in the air.
  • Updated camera tracking - camera pans to Spartacus faster for more accurate platforming
  • Removed staircase tiles from the game
  • Halved the damage spike traps do in the game
  • Other small misc bugfixes

Version 1.0.1 is live

Swords and Sandals Spartacus has now been updated to version 1.0.1. The major change for this build is improved collision detection between Spartacus and the staircase tiles. Users on older machines were reporting Spartacus would sometimes fall through the floor or get stuck in walls.

This patch should *hopefully* fix that, but please let us know in the comments if you still find issues. We have not been able to duplicate the issue since the fix but that's not to say it still doesn't exist, so this is something we will continue to work on!

As always, we will continue to patch and improve Spartacus based on your feedback - thanks for playing the game and for the great reviews so far!

Full patch notes

  • Updated platform collisions - Spartacus should no longer fall through the floor on older systems
  • Added Sound and Volume Sliders ( access from the Sound Settings on the Pause Screen)
  • Fixed a bug where the player would sometimes go straight from the Mines Descent into the Lower Thurium Mines (players would miss out on two full levels, this is fixed ! )
  • Remastered game audio ( lowered overall volume and improved sound mix )
  • Improved Spartacus hitbox collisions
  • Misc level design refinements and improvements
  • New audio for Publicola Boss Battle
  • Changed ambient audio for Crassus' Tower
  • Changed default button for throw to Q on keyboard
  • Other small misc bugfixes
