New Features



5th Spell Slot
- You can now customize each run even further by equipping 5 spells at a time!



Game Rebalance
- Both maps have been rebalanced for a smoother progression of difficulty and currency.


New Spellbook: Eden

Eden's Starting Stats
When you kill a demon, regenerate 0.13 HP over 0.7 seconds.
Knockback +13%.

Passive 1: Overflow
- Your Regeneration is doubled.

Passive 2: Mercy
- Damage taken is capped at 25% of Max HP.

Eden's Starter Spell: Shadow Mine



- Lay a mine at your feet. When triggered by a demon, impale them with a shadowy lance that releases bursts of energy based on projectile amount.

Evolution: Reaper Mine
- Evolved Shadow Mine. Burst size increases with each repeat. When an Elite demon dies, regenerate 25% of your Max HP over 4 seconds.



New Spell: Blade Whorl



- Throw an aimed volley of spinning blades. The blades return to where they were thrown from, piercing all demons.

Evolution: Hunter Vortex
- Evolved Blade Whorl. Summons spinning blades that rotate around yourself and Elite demons, cutting down everything in their path


Evolution Changes



Nova Cleave
- Slash portion now also reduces enemy Armor by -1 (stacks).

Cataclysm Sigil
- Now also triggers additional nearby explosions while attached to an Elite.

Indra's Sigil
- Now also gains Secondary Projectile Amount +1 for every 100% Critical Chance you have.


Improvements & Changes



- Optimized the physics of projectiles and damaging areas.

- The Smuggler's reward and reroll algorithms have been improved to make it easier to find what you need.

- Damaging Areas are now capable of Freezing demons, except for Burning Ground.

- Base EXP Pickup radius has been increased, but you no longer have infinite pickup range during overtime. All gems are still picked up when you enter overtime, and you will still have access to Experience Shrines & Wealthy Elites to manage excess gems.

- The potency of each Malice modifier has been reduced by a very small amount to balance out with the higher baseline difficulty of the game in this update.

Fixes



- Fixed an issue where some percentage based healing effects were not taking your full Max HP into account.

- Fixed an issue where some enemies had incorrect knockback resistance.

- Fixed an error where the "Adaptation" evolution of "Thickening" Aura was missing the text for gaining Armor when not at full HP. (The effect itself was working, the text was just not appearing).

- Fixed a variety of other minor bugs.

Optimizations & Bugfixes

- Fixed an issue where Smoke Barrage would not appear in the Smuggler's Shop.

- Fixed an issue where progression costs would sometimes begin to scale much higher than intended.

- Fixed an issue where existing elite enemies would gain extra Damage Reduction if they were alive when Endless mode loops. This damage reduction was only meant to apply to the elites that spawn in the new loop.

- Optimized the amount of calculations needed to determine how much damage an enemy will take when hit.

- Optimized the amount of calculations needed to determine how much damage a projectile or damaging area will deal.

- Optimized the amount of calculations needed to determine whether an enemy with knockback resistance will be knocked back.

- Fixed an issue where Inferno's knockback was lower than intended.

- Fixed an issue where lightning bolts from some sources had 0 Knockback.

- Fixed an issue where some skills would report incorrect damage values.

- Fixed an issue with text spacing when using an Asian language.

- Your equipped passive is now shown on the end of run stats screen.

- Reduced the rate of HP scaling on elite enemies during overtime.

NEW ILLEGAL SPELLS and QoL Improvements!

New Illegal Spells:



- Phantom Reap
Throw 4 scythes in a cross shape that return to their starting location, piercing all demons. When this hits a demon, regenerate 0.13 HP over 1.3 seconds.

- Venom Cleave
Fire a burst of noxious fumes at nearby enemies, followed by a toxic slash that deals 4x base damage. Enemies killed by the slash leave toxic Burning Ground on death that permanently inflicts them with -1.3 HP per second.

- Smoke Barrage
Chokes enemies with damaging smoke. Extra projectiles also add repeat casts. Increases Dodge chance & move speed by +13% for 3 seconds when cast.

Improvements



- Enemy amount & speed has been increased in the early game. This is only intended to make the early game more exiting, NOT to make the game feel way harder, so please let me know if it feels too difficult.

- A new end of run stats screen has been added. This screen can be expanded on in the future to be more detailed.

- You can now view damage dealt by spells in the pause menu.

- You can now view Banished upgrades in the pause menu.

- Eyepopper now shoots faster and has longer range.

- Hailstorm, Freezing Rain, and Toxic Blizzard now have much larger projectiles.

- Trail Blazer's burning ground now lasts twice as long in order to offset a previous change which made burning ground have higher damage but less duration.

- Unlocks that require an achievement now show their unlock requirement in their info box, instead of needing to navigate to the Achievements interface.

- Mouse cursor will now be hidden while using a controller.

- Your chosen passive will now be displayed in the pause screen.

- The following stats have been added to the stat display:

Max Level
Dodge Chance

Triple Damage Chance

Fixes



- Fixed a bug where duplicate entries would sometimes appear in the Auras & Effects screen.

- Fixed a memory leak related to information about level-up choices from previous runs.

- Fixed a bug where Berry's passive effect was not removed after finishing a run.

- Fixed a bug where the Bloodspark shrine would sometimes fire 1 projectile instead of 6.

- Fixed an issue with the positioning of Cataclysm Sigil that would cause it to miss against some enemies.

- Fixed an issue where Energy Cleave and Nova Cleave were dealing 400% damage instead of 500%.

- Increased the maximum number of elites that can be active at once from 9 to 12.

Less Bugs, More Damage

- Fixed a bug where enemy damage bonuses would not reset after the elite that provided the buff was defeated, causing their damage to sometimes scale to ridiculous amounts.

- Galaxy Brain Triple Damage Chance increased from 10% + 1% per aura level to 10% + 2% per aura level

- Reverberation now also gains -2% cooldown reduction for each level of the aura when evolved.

- Enemy Frequency Malice modifier is now free. The Malice list has been rearranged to make more sense, with the most difficult options at the bottom.

- All Unbound Auras that previously cost 4 have been reduced to cost 2.
- All Unbound Auras that previous cost 7 have been reduced to cost 4.
- Some unbound Auras that previously cost 9 have been reduced to cost 7.

- Fixed a bug where the character "Eden" would show as being unlocked when she is not yet available in early access.

Keep an eye out for an update later today that will add 3 new Illegal Spells, and some new Illegal Upgrades! New spellbooks and spells also coming later this week!

Hotfixes & Tweaks!

- Fixed some missing translations and typos.
- Reduced requirement to unlock Sly from 4 gambles in a run to 3.
- Fixed a bug where some upgrades cost a different amount than what they said.
- Fixed a bug where the new spellbooks had the same image as Speare when using the Play as Spellbook option.
- Fixed a bug where the Deathbound aura had incorrect evolution info.
- Increased the speed of Cataclysm Sigil by 15%
- Increased the speed of Indra's Sigil by 15%
- Reduced the amount of knockback resistance gained by demons during Timed Challenge and the first loop of Endless

I'm aware of a couple other bugs that have been reported which I'm working on fixing now. Thanks for all of your feedback and suggestions, it's extremely helpful!

We came from having only book characters, then to the Ashe character that players liked less than the book icon, and now we have main hero char that most players hopefully are OK with. More mechanics and Spellbook characters were added during these 3 months, and more things are coming.

Spellbook Demonslayers would not be as it is now without feedback and suggestions from players, and without the coverage from indie guru YouTubers and streamers our game might not get this much attention. Every comment from Steam, every feedback on Discord, every suggestion from influencers — everything was noted and much was implemented into the game.

Players will determine future development on the Spellbook Demonslayers!


The actual reaction from gamers will determine what actually needs to be focused on and developed. Players will determine when the game should focus first on more mechanical things, more raw content, more progression systems, or more tasks for players — the reaction from people in reviews and comments is what will determine the direction.
