Spells & Secrets Public Beta Patch 1.02b - Patch Notes
With this update, we are working on improving the local co-op experience while fixing various bugs and issues. This is a public beta update with work-in-progress changes that are not yet available in the main version of the game.
You can get access the public beta branch containing all of these mentioned changes as follows: Open the game’s properties in your Steam library by pressing the “Manage” button or right clicking the game in your list of games. Navigate to the “Betas” panel, open the “Beta Participation” dropdown, then choose the “public_beta” option. The game should now automatically update and download the public beta version.
Should you encounter any issues with these new features, we would be very grateful for your issue report. Press F1 at any time while in-game to open the issue report overlay. Don’t forget to attach the automatically created data package to your bug report, as it is essential for us to reproduce the issue you may have encountered!
New Features
Implemented an In-Game Device Assignment UI
This system allows you to view any connected input devices and assign them to different players in local co-op.
Enabling local co-op no longer requires any specific input devices to be connected. You will still require at least two different connected input devices to properly control both players.
The Device Assignment UI will pause the game and open automatically when local co-op is enabled or whenever an input device is connected or disconnected.
You can access the Device Assignment UI via the pause menu, or open it at any time by pressing F2.
If you are using Steam Remote Play Together, Player 2 can use their mouse & keyboard only if you enable it in the Remote Play Settings in the Steam Overlay.
Implemented Local Co-Op Saving & Loading
Leaving the game during a run or while in the Hub will now save whether or not local co-op is enabled, indicated by the co-op icon in your character library.
Loading a save with enabled local co-op will ask you to choose a co-op partner or disable local co-op before continuing.
The loadout of your co-op partner is now saved and loaded if a save is continued in local co-op.
Added information about the save that will be loaded when pressing play in the main menu.
Localisation for new features in languages other than English and German will be implemented with a future patch when these features are finalized.
Changes
Changed Levitate’s effect to have greatly reduced duration when affecting players and bosses.
Slightly reduced Levitate’s effect duration when charged.
Changed Ramlings to lose their shield instantly when interrupted or exploited instead of it only being removed after a brief moment.
This should make attacks timed perfectly with exploiting a Ramling more reliable.
Changed Ramlings to now also be bouncy while rolling.
Changed Vex, the Sly to no longer use her ultimate spell while she is affected by her boss shield effect.
Bug Fixes
Fixed an issue that caused the last artefact of each artefact category to not be properly generated into shops and artefact containers.
This issue should make the 8th barrage artefact finally obtainable, while also fixing other artefacts being more rare than intended.
Fixed an issue that could cause connected controllers to vibrate indefinitely.
Fixed an issue that caused the “Frozen Droplet” artefact for Levitate to not freeze bosses as intended.
Fixed trigger positions in some boss rooms allowing for enemies becoming stuck in between navgrid and killzone.
Fixed some artefacts not appearing properly in the Shinehunter’s showcases and shops despite being collected.
Fixed the killzone reset effect affecting props.
Fixed small typos in German texts.
Known Issues
In local co-op, opening the smartphone or a shop allows both players to navigate and interact with the UI.
We are looking to implement a solution that will allow only the player who opened it to navigate and interact with such UI screens.
In local co-op, your co-op partner’s companion can affect and deal damage to you with its contact effects instead of you being immune to those as intended.
Secret puzzle rewards in the second and third floor are not distributed correctly. Solving a puzzle in these floors will currently only ever reward a lucky bag instead of randomly picking from a pool of different containers as intended.

Spells & Secrets Patch 1.01 - Patch Notes
Greetings fellow students of Greifenstein!
With this first patch we are addressing some issues with local Co-Op, story achievements, and more.
We are continuing to work on improving the game based on your reports and feedback. Should you encounter any issue while playing, you can press F1 to open and use our in-game issue report tool. Please make sure to attach the automatically created data package in any issue report, as it contains vital information about the version and game state!

Changes
Schoolmates in the Fireblade Hall are now disabled during any boss or player duel.
This change should greatly enhance performance during combat.
Slightly adjusted some texts and UI elements to improve player guidance.
Texts in languages other than English and German and will be updated with a future patch.
Bug Fixes
Local Co-Op: Fixed an issue that allowed one player to heal the other with the Partner spell while they were transformed into a creature.
Local Co-Op: Fixed an issue that could cause faction leader dialogues to trigger out of order when entering the faction area for the first time while playing with a friend.
Local Co-Op: Fixed an issue that caused consumables picked up and used by player 2 to not count towards progress with the Dreamdancer student faction.
Fixed an issue that allowed teleportation between rooms during the different phases of the final boss fight.
Fixed the mechanics of the “Super Compact Instant Tent” artefact for Timewarp not matching its description and intended design.
This artefact no longer grants agile in addition to it granting manaflow.
Fixed an issue that caused some story related steam achievements to not be properly unlocked.
Loading a character that has already unlocked the related in-game awards should retroactively unlock the affected Steam achievements.
Fixed an issue that caused the game to be stuck in an infinite loading screen when trying to load a severely outdated character save file.
Fixed an issue with most artefact descriptions in the collection not using localized texts, displaying them as English in any language.
Fixed an issue with descriptions of Rootling variants in the collection being mixed up.
Fixed a typo in the German title of the mana recovery upgrades.
Known Issues
Local Co-Op runs are saved and loaded in single-player instead of being able to be continued in local Co-Op.
We are working on a solution that will allow you to choose and continue a saved local Co-Op run with a partner when loading it.
A local Co-Op session saved in the Castle or Hub will also save your friend’s spell loadout and load it if you continue to play in local Co-Op.
Local Co-Op requires two controllers to be enabled and doesn’t support mouse & keyboard.
We are working on a solution that will allow you to enable local Co-Op regardless of connected input devices.
This solution will also allow you to assign any connected input devices to be used by any player while local Co-Op is enabled, including mouse & keyboard.
