Spice Road - New Modding Tools

Spice Road is now open to graphics mods. You can change any of the models or textures in the game - and even access some of the gameplay data files.

Build 1.101 has tools to unpack the game's assets, and allows overrides of any assets you put in the mods folder.

Hope you have fun with it!

USAGE:

If you explore to your game folder in Steam
eg: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\Spice Road\mods\

There is a README there with instructions, see below

README - Mods Go Here.txt

Place mods in this folder, using the same folder structure as the unpacked data.

* Making Mods:

Unpack data with "SpiceRoad.exe -U".

Then copy the files you want to change into this folder using the same folder structure.

* File Formats

BMP and PNG files have various image formats. Where possible use older formats with less extra data.

In particular use 24bit BMP instead of the larger 32bit format.
Don't save "colour space information".

The game is designed to take square, power of 2 textures eg: 128x128, 256x256 and so on.

* No warranty

It is quite possible to break the game with Mods that are too big or incorrectly formatted - so use at your own risk! You can always remove files from the mods folder till it works again. Enjoy :)

Camp Blitz - Patch 1.017

Spice Road lends itself to a wide variety of strategies, and so it is hard to test for all eventualities. Patch 1.017 fixes a bug that is only triggered by a quick land-grab with many tightly packed camps, which are all expanded to towns (with the bug shifting borders when you defeat a bandit camp).

I'm happy that players are still finding new ways to play (and break!) Spice Road.

New Colourblind UI

v1.016 Has a new Colourblind friendly Town Status display mode, just turn it on in the Options and the coloured icons are replaced with clear shapes.
