WHY THIS IS A NEW GAME:
As you might know the original Spooky's Jump Scare Mansion was written in GameMaker 8 - which only has the most rudimentary of 3D support. In order to add features like 3D specimens, VR, Mac & Linux ports, and to fix a lot of the nagging issues (like getting stuck on corners) and other much-requested features it has to be rewritten from the ground up! We're taking this opportunity to add all that and more in Unity - which is a modern fully featured natively 3D engine that is a lot easier to work with for this kind of game than old GameMaker.
BIG ANNOUNCEMENT
Hey everyone! I would like to happily announce that Spooky's is being remade in the Unity engine. Here's what that means in a sweet bullet point style because I love bullet points.
Updated graphics
3D models will now replace the old 2D specimen models
Full controller support for various controllers
Mac, Linux, and Windows ports because Unity allows for that
Allowing multiple specimen to appear at once during chases
More cool music
More easter eggs
VR support for Oculus Rift and Vive
Ability to flip between old and new specimens models in-game at any point with the press of a button.
Steam Trading Cards, Emotes and Steam Backgrounds - You guys have been asking, now it's time.
Spooky's is just being REMADE in a different engine which means the story and all the specimen encounters are all still the same like the original game but will have 3D models, run more smoothly upon play, you won't get stuck on corners or doors anymore. Cool things like that. This new port will also be packaged with the DLC automatically and will cost about 5 to 10 dollars due to packaging the DLC AND VR support.
We are NOT removing the original Spooky's off the Steam store, IndieDB or anywhere else. This will be it's own product for those who wish to have it. If you don't like the price, you can continue to play the original game because it won't be taken down.
This game is set to release for Christmas of this year. (2016)
This new port will solve a lot of major issues that Spooky's has including collision issues, controller support issues, Steam overlay and Steam streaming issues, graphical issues and performance issues.

Spooky's Name Change and Why This Happened
Hello Fleshlings,
Psychobilly2422 here, you might’ve noticed a few updates recently, and we here at Lag Studios owe you an explanation. What happened is around July of last year we received a cease & desist for using the name “Spooky’s House of Jump Scares” because a company called “Spooky House Studios” is trying to get the trademark for “Spooky House”. They are mobile developers based in Germany and already have the trademark in the European Union, and demanded we change our name.
When this happened we started working with the most excellent lawyer Ryan Morrison who was very sympathetic to our plight. He showed us our options and helped understand associated risks, but unfortunately, being a staff of two who released a free game, we didn’t really have the means to deal with an international legal battle. While the terms of our settlement are confidential, and I have been advised by Ryan to not share anything further, our game will now be titled Spooky's Jump Scare Mansion. We are currently propagating new builds and new branding out everywhere, and thank you for bearing with us through all of this!

We Haven't Forgotten You - April Update
Hey everyone.
First, Akuma Kira and I would like to apologize for the lack of updates on the game. There's a major reason we've been silent and unfortunately we can't really reveal that yet.
What I can reveal is that we've been testing our new update and so far so good.

Major Game Breaking Bug Known and Being Fixed (Feb 16, 2016)
Hi there everyone,
Akuma Kira and I have read your posts on the Steam forums and we are so sorry for this major game breaking bug with the recent update.
What this update contained was controller support and a more updated and clean save system that we created for the DLC and decided to impliment into the base game. Why a new save system you ask? Well, in previous updates for the game, if we added anything to the game and updated it here on Steam, your save would corrupt after every update. We've found a solution to this issue that allows us to update the game and keep your save.
However, something went wrong with our new save system that we are currently looking into fixing ASAP.
As a quick fix, we have reverted back to a previous build of the game until we can solve this issue.
Now I will give you instructions on how to jump to room 250, 500, or 750.
On the main menu, navigate to the bottom right hand corner where you see a "Settings" button. Once you're in the Settings menu, navigate to the desired room number and type in the password as presented. Yes, this is case sensitive.
Room 250: PUMPKIN
Room 500: CHEESE
Room 750: CAKE

DLC released delayed by Steam Review.
Sorry the DLC isn't out yet the only thing holding it back now is the store page for the dlc has to be reviewed by someone from Steam. We submitted for it weeks ago and the documentation states it can take up to 3 days. Maybe the holiday season and server issues have delayed them.
I have no idea how long they are going to make us wait. If it gets too bad I might try releasing the DLC out somewhere else but I really wanted it only on Steam so it would be easy to track.

DLC Release Date and Trailer
Hi there you spooky live ones! Psychobilly here to give you a jam packed new update that I'm sure you'll be excited for!
We officially have a release date and price for the upcoming Spooky's DLC!
The DLC is titled "Karamari Hospital". It will be released on Dec 29th, 2015 and will have a 10% discount upon release. The normal price of the DLC will cost 5 dollars USD. It adds 45 minutes to an hour worth of gameplay, new area to explore, new monsters to encounter, and some secret stuff you won't want to miss out on.
For you controller users out there, we now have controller support which will be added to this DLC and the base game!
