A quick patch to set some groundwork for a large update coming in the following weeks. Stay tuned!
Multi-Res, Darts Nation, tons of bug fixes and new small features!
We're excited to announce:
Nvidia Multi-Res Shading (the performance improvements are astounding).
Darts Nation (darts is its own full blown minigame!)
Lots of new sounds for the physics objects!
Updated teleport targets to snap you into position (works especially good with Darts Nation as it snaps you behind the toe line).
The most delicious new hat.
Tons of little bug fixes and more performance optimizations.
Multi-Res Shading is an innovative rendering technique for VR whereby each part of an image is rendered at a resolution that better matches the pixel density of the lens corrected image. Multi-Res Shading uses Maxwell or later architecture features to render multiple scaled viewports in a single pass, delivering substantial performance improvements in pixel shading.
^MRS requires a Geforce 9xx (ex: 970 GTX) series or greater.
Teleport Target in Action ^Auto aligns you with any game you'd like to play. Still have full control around the Pool Table with the teleport ring, but it makes it easier to teleport to the other mini-games quickly.

Performance Update & Bugfixes
Hello everyone! We've been working hard on a MAJOR update, but aren't quite ready to roll it out. We didn't want to delay getting in some quick community suggestions, bug fixes, and performance updates so have a small update for today.
We've added the ability to control:
Supersampling
Screen-sharpening
Check them out in the graphics settings. If you find you want to reset the graphics back to default, either click 'reset to default', or hit control-g.
We've also fixed issues with AMD cards that created some strange rendering issues on the higher quality settings. Those should be taken care of!
Also did some bug fixing and improvements in the air hockey AI.
And lastly, we restored functionality to the 'opponent mute' button.
As always, a huge thanks to you guys, our players. It's awesome to get in multiplayer and play with you!
Stay tuned for some major updates in the near future!
Tableshield, Ball Spin Control, Backhand adjust, Air Hockey AI & more!
We're excited to deliver a decent-sized update featuring some cool new things. Specifically, these sweet things below!
Tableshield
Air Hockey AI
Ballspin Control
Backhand adjust
Want to be a little more serious about your multiplayer pool games?
Try out the table shield! We have more anti-griefing features planned as well!
Want even more control over your ball spin? Try out ball spin control! Built with beginner and pro players in mind.
Additionally, it's a lot easier to set your backhand grip position. While your front pivot is locked, try pulling the trigger on your back hand. This still lets you fine tune adjust the shot, but also now remembers to where you adjusted your back hand.
We were hoping to have a big performance update in the form of Nvidia's multires shading for this update, but due to some complications it'll be just a little longer.
Oh, and we tried to respond quickly to the community request for Air Hockey AI. In single player, grab a puck and you'll have an AI opponent!
PS! We added a little ruler in the game.
Measure to your heart's content! :)
New things! New things! (7/18/2016)
We're happy to say we've moved a lot of beta features to our release build!
• Air hockey (you can take a break from pool at any time to play with your pool partner)
• Additional darts game types (101, 301, 501, cricket)
• More hats and table art to unlock
• Audio settings for ambient chatter and sound effects
• Floor height settings (you can even play on a real table by setting your controller on it)
• Sharper graphics!
• And more!
As always, more announcements to come and we hope you have a lot of fun!
Beta updates and a new patch next week
We're putting the finishing touches on our next major update. We're going to push it live next week, and we'd love to get your feedback on the 'beta' branch over the weekend. Here are some of the new features which you can try right now in 'beta':
• Air hockey
• Additional darts game types
• More hats and table art to unlock
• Audio settings for ambient chatter and sound effects
• Floor height settings
• And more!
Look for a new 'beta' build tomorrow with even more features and fixes from this week. This weekend's beta build is next week's release candidate, so please give it a try and tell us your feedback!
See you at the tables!
P.S. Did you see Pool Nation VR at the top of Reddit today?!
6/30 Build Update
We released a new build today!
The biggest change is a game engine upgrade to resolve the frame lag / 'chaperone swim' problem described here. Because of the excellent community feedback we got in that thread, we were able to provide Epic with the right information for them to find and fix this problem (so all VR games based on the Unreal engine will benefit from this change once they've upgraded to Unreal 4.12.3 or beyond).
Because this change required taking a game engine upgrade we needed some time to sort through the side effects, but we're now in a good position to start issuing updates more frequently. Please don't be discouraged if a promised feature doesn't appear in this update, we simply needed to get beyond this version upgrade hurdle to unblock new feature work.
Here's the full list of changes:
1. Game engine upgrade to resolve the frame lag / 'chaperone swim' problem
2. Embiggened the NPC characters in the bar
3. Fixed the impossible "Bullseye" achievement.
4. Reduced the performance impact of having the application menu open
5. Multiplayer matchmaking fixes
6. Shot timer now works after a rematch
7. Limit bottle spawning
8. Performance tuning
9. Breakable bottles in Multiplayer
For a sneak peek at new features coming soon, please consider trying the beta branch.
Firstly, we just want to say a huge thanks to everyone who's played Pool Nation VR. This first month has been amazing. We've gathered tons of feedback, and are diligently working on fixing bugs and adding even more fun to the game with a lot of great surprises in the coming weeks.
As a little preview for what we're working on, we're opening up a beta branch to adventurous PNVR owners. There are some awesome new things in here... and some broken things we'll be fixing over the next few days!
Air Hockey Beta!
We've dusted off the old air hockey table and dragged it back into bar. The air is flowing and all you need is an opponent. At any point you can walk over the air hockey table and make your mallet meet puck. We think air hockey is going to be a favorite in VR.
Come try it out now, and help us make it better for a full release!
More dart modes! We're continuing to expand darts, join the beta and give the new modes a try.
101
301
501
Cricket
Freeplay
No more chaperone swim! The chaperone is now locked rock solid to the game world. You may... or may not have noticed before... but there was a little swim. No longer!
Ok, how do I get in the beta? Pop over to the discussion forum, we have a stickied post up top with instructions!
http://steamcommunity.com/app/269170/discussions/0/358415738205438292/
Why wouldn't I want to be in the beta? We have a big performance update coming soon... but it's not in the Beta. The beta runs a little slower than the release so if you're running a lower spec machine you might want to wait. Also... stuff isn't done in there! You'll find plenty of bugs.
Thank you everyone, it's been a truly amazing month, expect to see more frequent updates from here on out!
What side game should we add next?
We're talking about adding more activities to the bar for when you want to take a break between bouts of pool and we thought it'd be good to get some of the community's feedback on what they'd like to see. Cast your vote from some of our top picks in this reddit poll or let us know your idea in the comments, thanks!!
Build Update 6/3
A new build has been uploaded today with several changes that should result in increased performance for everyone. Here's the list of changes:
Temporarily removed capsule shadows on NPC characters
Removed unneeded per-bone calculations on NPC characters
Removed particle calculation from match win screen still being active when not shown.
Blueprint optimizations for the balls.
Fixed the light constraint on the table light.
Stopped the user being able to grab the table light off the ceiling.
Multiplayer replication improvements added, overall online experience should be more robust.
Added lobby numbers to stop different builds finding each other.
Investigations on further performance improvements continue and we'll plan to release another update once those are ready. We're also focusing on the reports of certain movements and activities causing motion sickness that is unique to Pool Nation VR - if you are experiencing this we'd greatly appreciate detailed information so that we can get to the bottom of them as quickly as possible.
Thanks again for all the support, have a great weekend!
