SpritePile

Selection Tool And Other Improvements

Selection Tool
This was by far the most requested feature from the community. I've yet to add copy/pasting for this tool as it's a bit more complicated than I anticipated. I plan to add it in the future but wanted to provide it to you sooner rather than later.

Changes Pending & Save On Exit
One of our community members pointed out that if you close SpritePile it doesn't prompt you to save your project. It's just a silly overlook on my part but one that I felt should be amended. Now SpritePile will prompt you to save your project if it suspects that there are unsaved changes.

It also has this minor but important detail that is a good way to know if you've saved your work or not.

No changes made

Unsaved changes

Changelog
  • Selection tool
  • When unsaved changes are made the window caption will include a
  • at the end
  • When unsaved changes are pending, closing the tool will prompt you to save your changes before closing
  • Increased text border sizes for tools which should prevent text from running into outlines, making them more readable

New support for Spanish (Spain)!

Here we are again with yet another translations from the community! Special thanks to SwordGardenStudios for providing translations for not just the store and the application, but the documentation as well. They requested a link to their website as well so here it is!

Again thank you both SwordGarden and the rest of this community for being so supportive.

Support for French and a few minor fixes!

First and foremost we now have French translations thanks to Three Eyed Rat who generously offered to translate the entire tool and store page. What a good person, am I right?

There was a strange bug with saving files the first time you ran SpritePile. I believe I've bypassed this issue with some minor changes to the file handling. It works for me so far but I won't know for sure until I hear back from you (or don't hear back which would also be a good sign).

There was also a crash you could get if you dragged your middle-mouse from outside the canvas, onto the canvas. Thanks to Suomimies66 for the extremely helpful bug report and for reaching out in the first place.

Now with support for German and there's a demo!

SpritePile now has support for German as well thanks to another fantastic member in the community! French/Spanish are still being worked on but will be ready soon hopefully.

I also fixed a few text spacing issues on the "New" and "Export" menu. Certain languages had text that overflowed into the button next to it.

It took a few days to get through the Steam approval process but now there's a demo available right here on Steam! It may not always be 100% up-to-date but it'll always be close. I've just updated it to the latest version so it matches all the current build features 1:1.

New color information option and fixed 3D scaling!

This is another small update but one that some of you may find very useful.

A colorblind user reached out and explained how it can be difficult to discern colors while doing art. Being able to see some sort of information to figure out what colors are where would go a long way to help.

So now there is an option to see what color you have selected and what color your mouse is hovering over within the canvas.

Alongside that another user pointed out that it seemed as though everything was stretched vertically in the 3D view. Turns out it was stretched! By about 1.5x due to me being a dingus. That has been fixed and so 3D rendering is now a 100% accurate representation of how your sprite stack would look in 3D.

I'm considering providing more options such as modifying the FOV and preset camera positions you can jump to or even save your own. One feature that is already implemented (in the developer build) but will need a bit more work is saving your 3D view to a *.png. This is only a useful feature if you can store the camera position for future rendering as well and so it is being delayed until I implement that.

With help from the community I'm also trying to expand our translations to French and Spanish which may or may not be available soon. I can't make any promises about translations at the moment but I can say that they are being worked on.

Portuguese (Brazilian) translation added!

Thanks to we now have a proper Portuguese translation! We hope this makes SpritePile more accessible.

If you would like to translate the tool into your own preferred language feel free to reach out and we can work together to get it done!

New tool and new options!

Hello SpritePile'ers? Not sure that's going to catch on.
Today I took time to focus on more user feedback and I've heard more than anything that a lot of people don't enjoy the default color scheme of SpritePile. Well now you can change it and easily for that matter.

Perhaps you enjoy burning your eyes while you work? Now you can have that!

Changelog
  • Customizable background/window color
  • Default option for all color modifier settings
  • Color picker tool
  • Fixed canvas geting offset when window is resized while zoomed in

Now with an OBJ export option! (See pictures)

One of the users in this community requested an OBJ file export and I thought it was a pretty good idea. There are other sprite stack tools with built in rendering but why not provide you with an option to create beautiful 3D scenes in any software? Today that is now possible.

Here's a quick preview I put together for you!
