Developer blog. Entry 118. “Allies and rivals”

Pilots! We continue to share the latest features that will appear on the game servers in the upcoming updates. Among them are new modes, events, and of course, ships!

The “Allies and rivals” event

Soon, the next battle pass will become available to all pilots. It will include an event with two stages, 40 levels each. The owners of a special pass will be able to obtain the rewards of all levels, but the first and every fifth level rewards will be available to everyone.

All pilots who complete all the event levels will be able to get the new Ellydium guard frigate “Drag'Thir”, as well as the modules and weapons of this ship. And those who buy pass packs will get additional bundles of resources, seed-chips and ammunition. You will be able to find them in most of the battle pass levels. We will share more details about the contents of the levels with you during the start of the event.

New Ellydium ship “Drag'Thir”

At the end of April, all pilots will have access to the new Ellydium guard frigate “Drag'Thir”.

Here is an excerpt from a leaked internal UMC report:

Long before the Yith'Mor project was finalized, Ellydium had begun developing a guard frigate. As early as 4620 and 4621, there were small leaks of information about the corporation's desire to develop a ship with a new role. The main difficulty in creating the ship later named “Drag'Thir” was that it was almost impossible to use standard Ellydium crystal nodes.

More complex elements were required. The needed parts were removed from living Crystallids only in 4624 for the first time. Information about the Ellydium’s study of these samples was passed on to the UMC and “The Frontier Voice” news agency by a source that remains unknown. Rumor has it that Natasha Cortés herself soon gave a good talking to the informant, making them realize the full extent of their mistakes.

Conrad Dimeni was able to convince the board of directors to use this as part of a promotional campaign for the new frigate. Shortly before the first “Drag'Thir” frigates rolled off the slipway, Ellydium issued a promotional publication about the creation of the new ship. One of the brochures, later withdrawn, indicated that the Leviathan power transfer technology was used in the creation of “Drag'Thir”. Some of the ship’s pilots noticed a suspicious similarity between some of the frigate’s elements and Liu Virus infected ships, but the Ellydium explicitly denied these rumors.

The ship has performed admirably in combat. We will soon be expanding the procurement of “Drag'Thir” for our mercenaries. Nevertheless, there is a proposal to investigate the reasons for the disappearance of “The Frontier Voice” journalist at Pilgrim-11 and the possible involvement of the Ellydium corporation. We need to find out if the unregistered capabilities previously observed in “Waz'Got” are present in this ship as well.

“Atlas”: new player on the weapons market

You may have previously heard about this corporation in past news releases, now we are pleased to introduce you to the “Atlas” Weapon Factories.

“Atlas” is a new corporation that recently entered the weapons market. The line of exclusive arms it presented has shown itself perfectly in battle, having different capabilities from the standard weapon modifications. There is some reason to believe that the corporation uses mostly basic civilian components to assemble the weapons, achieving high performance with a few high-tech parts. Some speculate about the corporation’s connection to a civilian company that existed on Earth at the time of the Invasion. Since the fate of Earth is not fully known at this point, there can be no evidence of such a connection.

And most importantly: in the “Allies and rivals” update, you will be able to test several variants of weapons made by “Atlas”!

New adventure raid and plot development

At the end of March, all pilots will be invited to join a new adventure and stand up to defend the Frontier sectors from an unprecedented threat.

There’s not much longer to wait! Stay tuned!

Special issue of “The Frontier Voice” news publication

Introduction:

Greetings, dear viewers and listeners! Welcome to “The Frontier Voice”, this is Max “The Comet” speaking. This is the new format of our publication: the investigation. In this issue, we will describe the process of our investigative work towards finding out the mysteries behind various events in the Frontier sectors and share the results with you. Today, I will be travelling to the… Oh, what was the name of the system? Viong? Viol? Vior? Check it before publishing and update the recording. Anyway, my destination is Pilgrim-11. I have a meeting there.

Recording 1

I left my office in the New Ceres system and I’m currently travelling through the Eastern mining station. Let me tell you about the plan for today while I have time. First, I’m going to visit a research facility, and then I have a meeting with a local authority representative. I hope I can get the permission to publish a story on what the research facility discovered in their analysis of the artifact I found in the Solaris Wasteland and other similar objects. There was another lead I wanted to pursue, but I will talk about it only if it turns out to be a success. I will be recording almost constantly during this trip, just in case.

Recording 2

I’m getting close to the Pilgrim-11 gate. It means that in a moment…

“Attention, ship A18-B84-D11, identify yourself!”

It’s the Snow Leopard and Manul. I’ll have to answer.

“This is Max ‘The Comet’ from the Frontier Voice.”
“Great, we’ve been waiting for you. We have information about a Cartel trap set up for you in the Pilgrim-11. Our orders are to escort you safely to the meeting point. Let’s do it this way: go through the portal, and we will follow in a few seconds. Change your phase modulator as soon as you go through. The Cartel won’t be able to catch you, and we will have time to deal with them.”
“Alright. Are you sure it’s safe? My ship only has civilian grade defence hardware. Maybe I can just go through another portal?”
“Don’t worry, everything is under control. We don’t need other portals, and besides, we will get in trouble if we don’t escort you. We will tow your ship to the meeting point if necessary.”

Looks like I have no choice. I will turn on automatic data upload, just in case. If they take my recordings, people will still learn the truth.

“Roger that. Heading towards the gate.”

Recording 3

I’m about to teleport. Phase modulator, please do your thing.

“There he is! Hey, ‘Comet’, your trip is over… Where did he go? He’s not on the radars! Find him! He has to die.”

They were right, there are a few Cartel ships here. I hope the backup arrives soon.

“Someone else is coming through the gate. Frank, don’t let the ‘Comet’ escape. Aim for his engines as soon as you see him. And turn on the locator already!”
“Sure, I…”
“Frank? Ah, dam…”

My escort did a great job. Both pirates died almost immediately.

“You guys are no joke. But why did I have to go first? You could have destroyed them anyway.”
“They were after you; they wouldn’t have dropped their camouflage if they hadn’t seen your ship. Now, keep close and let’s go.”
“Alright.”

Recording 4

Well, I’m at the meeting point. I hope there will be no more trouble. I am recording with my spacesuit mic.

“Good afternoon, Max. Let’s cut to the chase: our facility will need good advertising. This business will require a lot of effort and time. And today I want to know how much you know about Precursors and their artifacts.”
“You’re interviewing the interviewer? Not bad. Well, the Precursors are a civilization or several civilizations that ruled the galaxy probably two and a half million years ago. They created the Signal. The two known species of Aliens, the Crystallids and the Bions, both have a definite connection to them. At the same time, it seems to me that Aliens are not Precursors. Simply because the living planets and spaceships look somewhat... artificial? Precursor artifacts were created at very different times, but it’s not clear whether they were made by the hands of living beings or with some sort of machinery. According to available photos, there were humanoid statues on PB-42, for example.”
“Wait, you know about the PB-42?”
“Of course I do, it’s my professional duty. However, this story was deemed too disturbing, and therefore not published.”
“And you’re openly stating this? It might be a little unsafe. What if you were talking to an Ellydium spy?”
“It wouldn’t make any difference. That story must never see the light of day, but it is still recorded, as are some other stories. Just in case of... contingencies. Let’s get back to the Precursors.”
“Okay. What you said was pretty accurate. The age of old Precursor artifacts is around 2.58 to 2.6 million years old. You told us about the discovery of the column. It... is of great interest because the Signal concentrators, if found, could point to the source of the Signal. However, this will be very difficult to do without equipment from Earth, which is currently unavailable for obvious reasons. The main thing you will have to cover in your story is the potential of learning about the source of the Signal.”
“Alright, when should I expect you to give me the materials?”
“In the near future. And now I’m sorry, I have to leave you. My superiors want to talk to you now. Goodbye.”
“Alright, see you later.”

Recording 5

Now for the meeting with the local official. I think I will be able to learn what is actually wrong in the Frontier. Soon, I…

This is Max “The Comet” speaking. I hope this message never sees the light of day. I recorded it for an occasion when my life will be in danger. In the event that I go missing for an extended period of time, or turn on the emergency data feed, this message, along with the current version of my materials, perhaps not fully ready for publication, will be sent and posted to the official “Frontier Voice” channel. Pay no attention to the automated notifications before this post, they play no role. Max “The Comet”, signing off. “The Frontier Voice” advises that you remain cautious when visiting Frontier sectors, and that you only travel via safe routes.

30% off Karud ship components

Pilots! It's time to improve your fleet strength! UMC reports that a new transport convoy has arrived in fringe sectors from inner worlds. It seems that the blockade has been broken. We are expecting even more trade caravans in the fringe sectors soon!

Only today, March 5, we offer a 30% discount on Karud components! They can be purchased directly from the ship tree.

Long-term testing of the ship ‘Karud’ secured its fame as the most mobile and effective ECM interceptor. For this reason, the leading designer of the Saladin family chose a prototype for a new experiment.

The special offer is valid for a limited time and will end on March 6!

Sincerely,
Star Conflict Team

The first ships of this type were seen in 4622 in the Solaris system under the banners of the Raid. The frigates weren’t responding to the contact requests, but they weren’t attacking first as well. A group of mercenaries attacked a lone ship on a dare. The attack failed: they couldn’t break the ship’s shield and in the course of counterattack the frigate destroyed the majority of the attackers, forcing them to retreat.

According to their stories, the ship’s pilot contacted them during the battle and offered to confess before dying. Because of this, the frigate was codenamed “Confessor”, and this name stuck with it after the first official publications about the ship. Shortly thereafter, the UMC was contacted by old Jericho contacts who offered to hand over a small batch of these frigates to the mercenaries in exchange for certain information. Whether this is true or not remains unknown.

At the moment, a small circle of the UMC pilots close to the Mendes family did get their own ships, but they are in no rush to get in touch and provide details. It is only known that the control systems of “Confessor” are extremely difficult to operate, which makes them almost impossible to use without special implants. According to rumours, the UMC is working on adapting the systems to the needs of ordinary pilots, but there has been no visible success.
