Empire rank 16 long-range frigate “Helios”

When Alfred Warren announced the creation of the Great Empire, he immediately realized the main weakness: due to the size of its fleet, the Empire could not quickly upgrade ships of older designs. Therefore, he decided to start creating a new military doctrine that would produce a few long-range, high-powered ships to replace the mass-produced “Centaurs”.

In 4617, the Ares design bureau of the New Babylon system began development of a new frigate. Unlike the “old” Empire, the Great Empire was not afraid of using Alien technology. The development of the first model lasted more than three years, including the creation of a new active module, a new weapon, and a long range main calibre. The resulting prototype of the “Helios” frigate impressed Warren: its effectiveness was on par with the Wardens’ best designs.

Warren was about to begin mass production of the new frigate, but the shipyard’s lead engineer proposed a daring plan to improve the production model: to integrate Alien computation circuits into the ship’s systems. It was easy to obtain them at the time, after the Invasion, and it would substantially speed up the production of the new frigate. The only difficulty would be adapting the technology.

Under the strict control of the Great Empire security service, the necessary systems were developed and put into operation. In 4623, serial assembly of the new frigate for the Great Empire Guard began.

In 4624, it was decided to start export production of frigates with simplified Alien computing circuits. The first buyers were Sparta military units and mercenaries, including the UMC. At the same time, rumours of the ship’s unreported capabilities and flaws began to circulate. In response to a journalist asking him about this, Alfred Warren pointed to Ironside’s possible involvement in spreading these rumours.

The ship has absorbed all the latest achievements of “Ellydium” science laboratories that reached great heights in the development of Alien tech. The ship turned out incredibly fast and manoeuvrable.

The development of the ship and its active modules was carried out by Dr. Matthew Gilmore, the head of the mysterious and carefully protected Scientific Complex No. 2 of the Ellydium Theta station. And Conrad Dimeni personally oversaw the development. Tai'Kin was the first ship that was able to fully use the unimaginable properties of single bosons to change the space-time.

After the Empire fell apart, the Templars had found themselves in a bad position: most of their fleet consisted of elite and ceremonial ships, and their production was dependent on shipyards that were now located in various breakaway territories of the former state. In order to defend their territory from pirates, Aliens, and other small Empires, the Templars required a strong modern fleet. The “Dyrnwyn” ships no longer covered the growing needs of the organisation.

In 4621, the sectors under Templar control suddenly became much safer, as if all the pirates around simply disappeared. At the same time, there were rumours of rare encounters with unknown ships.
It all became clear in 4624, when the Templars suddenly offered the UMC shipyards a contract to assemble the Psiloi recon ship from the already produced parts. At that time, the Templars explicitly stated that the destruction of the pirates was a combat test of the new ship.

The ornate hull of the ship housed not only the basic systems, but also a unique scientific development: a subspace anchor. This device allowed huge boosters to be hidden in a spatial pocket, which the Psiloi pilot could summon at will. The only disadvantage of this design is the impossibility of installing the classic micro-warp engines on the ship.

The UMC plans to start the production of the new recon interceptor in the nearest future, as well as figure out the design of its unique module and weapon with the help of the blueprints provided by the Templars.
