Settlers of Orion Beta Testing Update

Hey all,

I've had better than anticipated response to the beta testing for Settlers of Orion (SOO). But have decided to increase the number of beta testers. This means that All those who have already emailed me at contact@blueblazegaming.com will be part of the beta testing! There is no need to email me back.

I am currently working on the beta testing manual that will outline the beta testing, and also explains how to play the game. It's about 80% done and I expect to have it done in the next day or two.

Once it's done I will be setting up SOO on steam and will do a bit of testing to make sure its all working correctly. Once that is done, I will make the testers manual (pdf) available to all the testers and will then close out accepting anymore testers. That means that there is still time to request to be a beta tester for SOO. I expect that by sometime next week I will stop accepting request, I am getting that close to getting the beta up and running!

To request to be a beta tester for SOO, just email me at contact@blueblazegaming.com. Put beta testing in the subject and feel free to tell me a bit about you and your computer specs.

Thanks again,

Walter Denny La Croix

Looking For Beta Testers!

I am currently in the final stages of alpha testing on my next game, Settlers of Orion. It's basically a board tile type game similiar to Settlers of Catan but with a space theme.

I should have the game up on steam in the next 30 days and I am looking for a handful of players to do some beta testing for me. I will mostly be looking for feedback on the game mechanics, and of course any bugs that may come up.

Those that are selected will be allowed to keep their steam key for the game after it is released. If you are interested please email me at contact@blueblazegaming.com. Put SOO beta testing in the subject line. If selected, you will be sent a steam key to the email address you contacted me with.

Thanks in advance,

Walter

Patch Update Released

We just released patch 1.2.1.14.

It fixed a bug where is certain situations would not allow players to attack the final enemies starbase even after defeating all the fleets in the star system.

For those who ran into this issue and your currently saved last game was when you first encountered this issue, it will now allow you to attack the starbase. When you mouse over it, it will still show you that you still have fleets left to defeat. But if you target it and move your ship there, it should update those fleets as being defeated, allowing you to attack the starbase.

However, if you left the star system and went into another one, and then viewed the star system view, when you go back into the original star system, you will have to defeat the enemy fleets again, as the info regarding the stat of the last galaxy you were in will have changed to the newer one.

Thank you for your patience.

Patch 1.1.2.13 released

This patch was mostly about balancing the resources found on planets. Prior to the patch, finding iron was very hard. And since it is the first metal that can be processed into repair armor, we made it MUCH more common to find. It can now be found on over half of the planets. You will only see the changes when starting a new game. Any saved game will have the older planet data.

We also added a message when starting a new game using the Rogue Officers DLC that reminds players to upgrade their Transport Stat to increase the away team size, since entering your first star system always results in a 'Heavily Damaged Ship Encounter'. And this can be very difficult with an away team size of just 1.

You can now View The SFARA Steam Leaderboard!

This latest patch (1.2.1.1.11) allows players to now see the top 10 Steam Scores for SFARA and also the scores around your score. This is done from the High Scores screen. When you are on the High Scores screen you will see three buttons at the top. The left one is to view your top 10 scores (the default), the middle is to view the Steam top 10 scores and the right one will show the 5 scores above yours and the 4 just below yours. Currently there are not a lot of scores in the high scores table.

We have also pushed back to time table on the next three DLC content updates. To this point we have not received enough player created cave maps for the Rift Riders so it has been extended again until the end of May. We are still offering Steam Gift cards as outlined in the game, so please take some time to create some caves and email them to us. Perhaps your next steam game purchase will be on us!

We appreciate all the positive comments we have had on SFARA. We will continue to add new content, and the more people we have playing the game the longer we will spend resources on updates. So please tell your friends about the game.

Lastly, the game will go on sale for 30% off starting April 20th, and will be onsale for 2 weeks. So its a great time to buy if you have been on the fence. At $9.99 SFARA is a good value, at $6.99 its a great value!

Patch 1.2.1.10 is live.

Patch 1.2.1.10

This patch added some enhancements to the Officers DLC.

There is now a GUI Icon over each discovered star system on the star map that lets you know if, you have a chance to find a heavily damaged ship, already found one, or must clear all hostiles before one will show up.

Adjusted how officers decide to leave. Now only unassigned officers will leave, and it will always be the officer with the lowest loyalty. Each cycle (about 250 TU's), the game will check how many unassigned officers you have. If you have less than 10 unassigned officers, then none will leave. If you have 10 or more, then at least one will leave, and it can be as high as 4 depending of how many you have.

The maximum number of total officers is still 100, but once you reach 100, then one will automatically leave making room for an additional officer to be found.

If you have more than one officer with the same perk, then you can dismiss one of them for a boost in XP and loyalty to that officer. The amount of XP and loyalty depends on the games skill level and the rank of the officer being dismissed. Higher ranks give more and higer skill levels give less.

There will be an animated arrow on the officers edit screen on each officer that can be the target of this boost. The officers with the same perk can only come from unassigned officers. But both assigned and unassigned can be the source target officer for the boost.

When you mouse over the animated arrow, a list of all (up to 5) unassigned officers with the same perk will show up. You can then move the mouse over the one you want to dismiss and then RMB click to dismiss. The amount of XP and loyalty that you will gain is shown in the list. If the amount of XP makes your source officer level up and they are assigned to a ship, the ship size must be able to accommodate the new higher rank. If it doesn't then that officer will not be in the list.

The chance to find a heavily damaged ship and the chance to get an officer at a planetary crash site can now be viewed from the fleet info window at the bottom, just above the legend.

Fixed an issue with the cave editor when rotating a firing arrow object clockwise. Firing arrows should only rotate at 90 degree intervals, but this was being disrupted when rotating clockwise beyond the 0 degree mark.

Fixed a few issues where some achievements were not being updated properly. Most of these had to do with the Mad Scientist achievement where it would not advance all research units found. Now ANY research unit found regardless of how you got it, will be counted towards this achievement. That now includes selling life form at a science station, and from the worm hole specialist perk in the rogue officers dlc.

Hope you enjoy the changes.

Patch Notes Version 1.2.1.01 is here!

This patch introduces the new Rogue Officers DLC. This DLC is part of the game and there is no need to download anything. You will just need to enable the DLC prior to starting a new game.

Here are the features of the new DLC content.

Players can now assign an officer to each and every ship in their fleet. There are 6 professions of officers and 4 ranks. The officer professions are combat, communication, engineering, medical, navigation and science. Each profession has 6 unique perks. About 2/3 of the perks affect only the ship they are assigned too, while the rest can affect your shuttle craft, planet lander or even your stats.

The race of the officers for a game are taken from the races in the game except for the main enemy or space pirates. This can come into play as assigning an officer of the same race as the ship will allow the officer to gain 50% more xp. You will never get an officer from your race or from pirate ships. This makes obtaining ships from other races much more important than what it was.

The officer ranks are (lowest to highest) Ensign, Lieutenant, Commander and Captain. Ensigns can only be assigned to small ships. Lieutenants require a medium or smaller. Commanders require a large or smaller and a Captain can be assigned to any size ship.

In addition to ship size restrictions some officers can only be assigned to certain ship types. (Battle Cruisers, Science Vessel etc)

Each assigned officer offers a specific perk related to their profession. For example a medical officer will have perks such as Triage. This perk give the assigned ship a chance to heal lost crew while in combat.

During combat the officers will gain xp. Once they have gained enough xp their rank will increase. Once they reach captain and they gain enough xp then will then create an ensign of the same race.

As an officer ranks up, their perk will also increase. For example, lets take the Triage perk. At Ensign rank there is a 5% chance that a crew member that was going to be lost in combat will be saved. Those go up to 10, 15 and 20% for the other 3 ranks.

In addtion to an officers XP they also have a loyalty gauge. This will range from 10 to 100. The higher the loyalty the better chance the officer will not decide to leave. Each 250 TU's there is a chance that 1 or 2 officers will leave. Unassigned officers have a greater chance of leaving versus assigned ones.

This DLC also introduces 8 new achievements and 2 new achievement artifacts. The two artifacts are Officers Academy and Twin Officer Quarters.

The Officer Academy allows officers that are now assigned to a ship to gain XP and it also reduces their loyal decreasing by 50%.

The Twin Officer Quarters will allow the player to assign 2 officers to a ship instead of 1.

We will also have an updated game manual within the next week. This will include information on the DLC and will also update some of the other things that have changed over the last several months.

We hope you enjoy the new content and we welcome any feedback good or bad.
