We are tossing around the idea of adding an Iron Man Mode.
This is what we are thinking of doing:
By default this will be turned off. It will be a check box on the 'Start A New Game' screen like the activate tutorial. Once you start the game this option can't be changed for the rest of the game.
Iron Man mode will function just like the game currently does, ending the game when you lose in combat. However it will now increase your final score by 25%. It will also save the game each time you move your fleet while in a star system. It will save it prior to the movement.
Playing the game with Iron Man Mode OFF will NOT end the game if you lose the game in combat. Instead it will take you back to your previously saved game. This is normally when you first enter the star system unless you have manually saved it. In addition to not getting the 25% bonus in your final score, you will lose 5% of your final score for each time you do this with a maximum loss of 25%.
If you have a game that you are currently playing it will default to Iron Man Mode when you load it. (This was done because you've been playing it in that mode anyways.)
Let us know if you like or dislike the idea or have any feedback. Please use the community hub for your comments.
What are actual players saying about SFARA?
We thought we'd share a few quotes from the Steam Community Hub regarding SFARA since the comments so far are Overwhelmingly positive.
Comment 1:
This is a shockingly great game that I can't stop playing, and I play all the space games. Seriously, all of them.
Comment 2:
I like the game so far of what I have played and I like the influences drawn from/for it, - the mini games are quite a fun challenge too, I especially like the going aboard ships to rid it of an alien foe while the ships is blowing up around my team.
Comment 3:
Superb gem of game! It has all the feel of a 90’s era game like Star Control or Star Flight, Starships Unlimited or countless other space exploration/strategy games of then. There is a lot going on in this game, the 2d mini games are many and varied, from blowing up asteroids for rare power crystals, to boarding a distressed ship and taking out the alien invader while trying to repair the ship and extinguish fires, to firing research probes through anomalies and wormholes, and also visiting planets to collect materials and other surprises. The GUI has a lot on it but it is all explained and one gets the hang of it pretty quickly.
I probably like this more than other similar games like Endless Sky or Unending Galaxy, because in this game you have a lot more freedom to go at your own pace, time moves only when you do.
I like the varying types of stations you can go to - general space stations, spaceship factories, trade centers as well as merchant ships. The game has a lot of random events - good and bad ones, however nothing so random or ridiculous so as to ruin the game ever.
This one I will be playing for a while!

Added a message on the Splash Screen to let player know they can hit the ‘Esc’ key to exit animation and one about the game manual pdf being available at www.starfleetarmada.com
Fixed some typos that were found in the tutorial. This included the use of the word your instead of you’re.
Made a few text alignment changes in the ‘Fleet Information Details’ popup screen’s legend at the bottom.
We realize that the patch notes list is small, but we have had very few bug reports and we are fixing the ones we get on a daily basis.
Considering this is and indie game and it is our first release we have had very few issues and no critical ones yet. We thank everyone for all their comments. From what we've read it appears that everyone seems to be enjoying the game.
Has anyone been able to unlock any of the achievement artifacts yet? We would love to hear about it.

Fixed an issue where some of the graphics and text would be drawn in the wrong location on screen resolution ratios other than 16X9.

SFARA Patch Update 1.1.1.37 Released
We just released our first patch which fixed the following issues:
Fixed an issue where the player would get a message stating the tutorial was over whenever they left a space station, merchant ship encounter or star lane warp encounter even if the tutorial was not active.
Fixed an issue on the Research Station Encounter where the player could not sell life forms to the station for research units. Also added a ‘Sell All Life Forms (+XX RU’s)’ button where XX is the amount of RU’s the player would get for selling all their life forms.
Fixed an issue on the ‘Start A New Game’ screen where some of the Tooltips for the header icons for the ships weapons had their x and y mouse coordinates a little off. This appears when you would select a ship (RMB) and then mouse over the icons.
We had one game crash reported when summoning the merchant ship. We were unable to duplicate the issue. If anyone else gets this please send us a screen shot of the error message.
Added a message stating ‘You can toggle between Full screen and Windowed mode at anytime by pressing F1’, when you first get to the initial game menu screen. This can be done from any of the game screens. This information can also be found in the game manual, tutorial and in the players top GUI.
Star Fleet Armada: Rogue Adventures has been released!
Star Fleet Armada: Rogue Adventures was released on June 5th around 6 PM PST. The launch went very smoothly as no issues have been reported.
For those of you who are wondering what the game is all about….it’s a blend of Star Control 2 and FTL: Faster Than Light. It also contains various 15-20 second arcade style mini games. For example you can send a shuttle craft to explore an asteroid field to find power crystals which are used to upgrade the size of the ships in your fleet. You can send an away team to explore a damaged or distressed ship where you will fight off invaders and put out fires and repair broken ship components for various rewards. And of course there is the awesome planetary exploration with your planet lander. Will you explore an area of the planet in sunlight or will it be night time, or will the moon be out giving you some light? Will you find that elusive rainbow planet?
And SFARA uses active achievements. This means that completing a group of achievements will actually reward you with an in game artifact that will help you in all future games you play. There are 12 of these artifacts and most are very powerful and useful.
So….if you’re looking for a game that’s a little different, or if you still have the Star Control 2 itch that just won’t go away give SFARA a try.
