This patch adds specific joystick detection and binding. A couple things to do to make sure this works as great as possible:
1) Make sure your joystick is connected, and drivers installed before starting the game.
2) Once the game has started, go to Options, Game Settings, Controls, and make sure that the joystick is active and saved. Then, a new row will show up called Joystick Assignment, which will let you check your keys and rebind them if desired. Make sure you are happy with the configuration before continuing.
In addition, lots of menu navigation issues have been fixed with the game. One of the other big issues was that the CP rewards have been significantly raised, and we have improved (hopefully) the easiness of some of the earlier missions, and fly patrol specifically,

New Patch posted...leading up to transition from Early Access to Full Release
This patch addresses the dreaded startup bug as well as the quality of the lighting on lower end systems with Dynamic Lights set to "deactivated". We have also addressed several bugs in single, multiplayer and splitscreen (local multiplayer) modes. Please let us know if there are any issues which come up.
We are agressively moving toward full release (look for a release candidate within the next coulple weeks).

Version Beta 0.4.0 posted (adds Multiplayer Online and Local, Russian Language and more...)

Huge Update planned for November 1st
There is a huge update planned for November 1st, (or shortly after if we find last second issues).
Expect the rest of the missions (both single player and fly patrol), the rest of the fighters available, all of the multiplayer splitscreen missions, the carrier 1st person stuff and lots of bug fixes (including the joysticks) - basically everything promised, with exceptions, but still in beta state, which means there will be bugs present.
Exceptions -
1) We are still integrating the Steam code to enable multiplayer
2) Still placeholder voices for a little while longer - we're waiting for the professional voice acting replacements
3) Some cinematics are placeholder
